Добрый день, друзья!

Сегодня мы попробуем оценить стиль английской  писательницы Джейн Остин (1775-1817). Она не получила широкого признания при жизни; только в конце 19 в. возродился интерес к её творчеству. В национальном опросе “Самые любимые книги Британии”, который проводила телекорпорация ВВС в 2003 году,  роман Джейн Остин “Гордость и предубеждение” занял второе место (уступив лишь “Властелину колец” Толкиена).

He certainly looked at her friend a great deal, but the expression of that look was disputable. It was an earnest, steadfast gaze, but she often doubted whether there were much admiration in it, and sometimes it seemed nothing but absence of mind.
