Deshi takes the X-Battle Bugos
2008-07-28 15:30
I just got back from the X-Battle in Burgos, Spain, without a doubt one of the best skate comps I have ever been to. The best atmosphere and games ever.

Anyway, to cut a long story short, Stephane Alfano (1st place), was utterly mindblowing once again for Deshi, and Jefferson Santana AKA Rosca placed third for Deshi. Ivan Malvido, USD, placed 5th.

Thanks Sito for the pics! ---> http://www.flickr.com/photos/sitoo/

A Younger Perspective- USA Training Camp
2008-08-05 19:45 peterdoucet

Keith Carroll is sharing his perspectives of the USA World Team training camp on his blog A Younger Perspective. You can read two of the more recent entries including First Day, First Practice and Another Day.

…Sara, she skated her flying 100 ridiculously! For those of you who have seen the bank track we use the term ‘redline’ for skating really low on the track. Well Sara was flying at redline and ended up beating most of the guys which is really good because she hasn’t been feeling 100%.

Road Rash Chronicles: Observations & Bits And Bites
2008-08-05 19:50 peterdoucet

Road Rash Chronicles has a couple of entries that I would like to share; More Skating Observations features experiences and lessons, including the following;

2. Hard Headed:  Would you have been caught dead in a helmet prior to speedskating?  Me neither.  Now I can’t even fathom the stupidity of parents with their children out on the paths without helmets.  Child services anyone???

Bits and Bites includes a few MISC stories;

Mike C and I got caught in a tornado like storm on Saturday while skating the ORP.  It came on suddenly and with a wrath!  The wind alone dropped us from 27kph to about 7kph and the rain was like skating into a wall of water.  It was one of those rains where cars pull off to the side of the road.  Yah, like that.  Then to top it all off, it started to hail.  Let me just tell ya, hail hurts like a b….

Dante Muse Card
2008-08-05 20:00 peterdoucet

I used to collect hockey cards and baseball cards for quite a few years. If I know that roller speed skating cards existed, I would have collected those as well. I would probably have quite a few Chad Hedrick rookie cards.

Thanks to the Inline Plante’s Skatebytes, I was able to check out Dante Muse’s 1988 card- see it in So, do you like…stuff’s Classic card of the week; Dante Muse.

Zurich WIC- Reports
2008-08-05 20:12 peterdoucet

You can read a few comments and thoughts about the Zurich WIC in the following threads;
- World Cup Topics for 2008
- ZURICH WIC BONT Shut out.- includes updated WIC standings

Now its the funny season, anything can happen & did happen in Zurich, skaters watching each other & teams in the overall ranking watching each other, skaters trying to Qualify for marathon spots in their national teams thrown lifelines & then the focus of the team shifts to them, other teams having pow wows on concerted attacks on the top teams, it becomes real nteresting from a real close follower of the sport, then we also have the all important one, I am saving myself for the Worlds, behind the scenes of Zurich race, this was all happening.
