At 0550 UT noted Abkhazia (Georgia) in Russian
again, -- after long break.
9494.74 kHz. But station had left the air approx. 0624 UT, when checked
again.

Yesterday around 1450 UT, and this morning again (0550 and 0630 UT) noted an
UNKNOWN station carrier on 9510.74 kHz. Could that be the 2nd Abkhazia tx,
which was lately near 9535 kHz, BUT on approx. 9508 kHz in the nineties a

RA continues to be inaudible on its normally potent 31m
frequencies: Dec 10 at 1347 could not hear on 9580 or 9590, but OK on 6020.
Presumably near Summer Solstice, the 9 MHz signals are getting absorbed rather
than refracted where the first hop would normally be in our direxion, the
pre-sunrise MUF being at its lowest, altho one might otherwise conclude that

put Radio Santa Cruz on 6135, but they are back to 6134.76 today if they ever were on 6135 KHz.
Signal was good using both the NRD545 and WinRadio G305/pd.

11875, 11670 and nothing there. However, an hour earlier I did hear presumed
RHC mixing with WEWN on 11875, so A,P probably started at usual 1400 and was

5000, YVTO (tentative), 0505, 12/13/07. Audible tones on the second during WWV/H's clicks, weak voice announcements (possibly in
Spanish) under WWV's own. The tones were making it through much better than the voice. Lots of rapid fades on WWV/H, which is rather

VOI back on 9526.0 after many weeks` absence, with hum and het
from something on 9525, Dec 13 at 1441 with Qur`an, 1449 to OM talk in Arabic,
morphing into Indonesian but still about Islam frequently mentioning that and
Allah. 1500 no ID heard but news headlines, 1501 sign-off Suara Indonesia by
YL, anthem to 1504* The 14-15 hour of VOI is scheduled in Indonesian, and I
thought it might be back on at 1600 for Arabic, but not heard then. Earlier
language hours include 08 English, 09 Malay, 10 Thai, 11 Mandarin, 12 Japanese,
13 Korean. Tnx to tip from Ron Howard who was hearing 9526 again the day before
at an earlier hour.

Since VOI has been on 9526 (when active) instead of 9525 for quite some time,
it can hardly be an accidental slip of the finger, but why? Other stations have
been caught deliberately one or two kHz off-frequency, such as Syria on 782,
and in 7-150, Pakistan on 830. Can these be misguided management decisions to
be on a ``different`` frequency than other stations and thus avoid

No, Keflavik and Grindavik are not identical locations. They're both
on the southwestern Reykjanes peninsula but Grindavik is in the SW;
Keflavik in the NW. There is at least half an hour driving between the
towns.
Btw when I visited Grindavik in Nov 2007 I did note some presumed tx
masts a few minutes before driving into the town. Had no idea at the
time it could be AFN.

The Sackville transmitter relaying NHK on 11705, at 1416 Dec 10,
exhibited a lite squeal, a bad sign of impending trouble. Let`s hope they don`t
let it deteriorate as much as WEWN and RHC. Was about immigration in Sweden, so
I checked Yamata 7200 to be sure it was really NHK programming instead of a
feed mixup at Sackville, and indeed it was // 7200 tho a couple seconds out of

6937 YUnan PBS 1358 with organic songs , Seemingly ID on TOH

being slightly stronger (S1-2)

then. Hung on just long enough for time pips to be audible again at

Otherwise a fair signal. Weaker on // 6065, 6090, 7315, 7375.

5995 CONGO, Radio Congo, Brazzaville DEC 3 0605 - during the wee hours during the morning hitted by the heavy snowstorm, Radio
Congo was breaking through the RHC-6000 splatter quite nicely with minimalist traditionnal tribal music. Not very strong, but not
too weak either. Quite poor. My Sangean CST-818 which doesn't too a very astonishing job on LW and MW seems quite good on SW.
Unfortunatly, not too many SW stations are left in either Africa or Latin America and it isn't a highly proffessionnal
communications rig in order to bring out of the noise mush the Peruvan and Bolivian flea-powered stuff. I look for a communication
receiver is important for me, yet, I prefer searching for Aventure FM tapes and building something of a revival of this wonderful
French station ! That being said, I'm looking forward doing some DXing tonight, as soon as I write one more Aventure FM aircheck
request...

До 1900 трансляция означена для Индии, а сейчас (после 1900)
для Японии. Кстати, прошлая передача от 04.11.2006 вообще
проходила как никогда, сигнал до 4-ки был включительно.

У меня Св.Елена внезапно выплыла в 18.24. В принципе, между передачами для
Индии и Японии особой разницы по качеству не было, везде SINPO 25222. Есть
кое-какие знакомые песни в музыкальной части программы.

Посмотрим, как пойдет передача, заявленная для Европы в 20.15. Слышу станцию, кстати, впервые в жизни.

Каюсь, заработался, что и забыл про Елену. Спасибо Андрею Бурлаке, что
он позвонил в 19.15. Сразу было неплохо слышно, сигнал выплывал на 3, но
с преселектором. Без него антенну нельзя полностью включать -
перекрестные помехи забивают.

Сейчас в 20.00 сигнал ослабел, в шумах теряется. Бывает, что на Японию
слышно не хуже, чем на Европу, или даже лучше. Послушаем

and some music until the hour when the final ID is given. Signal is at a good level by the
time of closing at 1000. Immediately at 1000, Radio France Int. comes up

switches to Spanish and subsequent intel from the broadcast idents it as Radio France
International. This is the broadcasts I thought was CRI on the 14th here. So please

Probably Bijeljina-Jabanusa is on air right now on 7240, at 1525 check
I found a signal which I think is just too strong for originating from
the low power transmitter at Obrenovac-Stubline. However, reception
suffers considerably from one or even two co-channel stations, one of
them much off-frequency to an extend that the produced het is already
a very low hum rather than a SAH. The prominent carrier is spot on
7240, and this prominent carrier appears to originate from the Radio
Serbia transmitter, so it appears that one of the unid. co-channels is
the culprit. Programming as scheduled, i.e. Spanish wrapping up (still
announcing the old radioyu.org website), some minutes of IS, followed
by Arabic at 1530, all without carrier break, i.e. via the same antenna.

Re. their new service on Eutelsat W2: Why on 16 deg. East? This slot
is relevant for the Balkans but not for Central Europe, hardly anyboy
has a dish pointing at this position here. The alternative would be
13. deg. East, already in use by RTS Sat and Beograd 1 by way of a
GlobeCast multiplex on Hotbird 6 (11.585 GHz v), so it would be only
logical to put Radio Serbia on air here, too. On W2 they now use a
multiplex of the Bulgarian company ITV Partner (11.140 GHz h),
uplinked from Sofia, so they do not save the audio circuits to
Jabanusa but instead even need one to Sofia now.

Now, after 1900, they are indeed on 6100 with news in Russian,
including, you guessed it, Kosovo. Powerful signal, putting the
DRM hiss from Junglinster into the background enough to make way for
ambient noises in the studio (traffic out there, I heard that already
on their webcasts a while ago). However, there is again an unid.
co-channel station with programming in a Slavic language, probably
even Russian, too. At the same time 7240 has Family Radio in German
via a CIS site.

Around 1530 I checked 6100 too, but only a weak carrier could be
detected in the DRM hiss, unlikely Bijeljina I think. There should be
no doubt about the program line-up as posted by Dragan Lekic already a
while ago, they also don't appear to maintain different outputs for
satellite/webcast and shortwave, but what about the operation of the
reactivated Bijeljina transmitter; at which times is it on and on
which frequencies (plus, as an in-depht detail, using what kind of

And here in eastern Germany I hear at the same time on 7240 only a
modest signal with elevator music, like put on air by somebody who
lost his program feed. No traces of other co-channel stations. 6100 is
now covered by the Junglinster racket to an extend that all I can say
about the signal on this frequency is that this is some other
programming than Radio Serbia.

It's also quite interesting that at 1935 China entirely overrode the
Bijeljina signal in Finland. Here CRI was audible, too, but only in
the background.

And now, at 2100, it turns out that the elevator music on 7240
apparently originated from Lhasa. Still no trace of Bijeljina on 6100,
but Radio Serbia is easily audible via their webstream, with news
items hinting that the Serbians will raise the Srpska matter if Kosovo

Bosnia around 1500-1530 UT in Spanish, world nx at 1500-1510 UT. Supposedly
reduced 125 kW of power over a non-directional antenna, not the tiny 10 kW
tx box anymore which was in use previously since September 2006. Signal not
strong but readable. Co-channel interference by BSKSA Riyadh in Persian

Libya's Voice of Africa This station has made some changes that I
noticed while listening to their English program on 17725 today.
The first is in modulation. When I have listened to this service in
the past, there was always quite the hum that made listening difficult.
That hum is now gone and the signal strength and modulation are both very
good.
The second is in programming. It seems there used to be more music
and "facts and figures" type of programming. After a few songs, I heard a
program talking about the achievements of the Palestinian Al-Fatah movement,
which was from 1410 to 1433.
I did get a kick out of the man who gave the opening announcements.
He was speaking in English and using quite flowery language about how great
Africa will be once it is a single state and the resources it will have at
its disposal. Arabic has a tradition of using flowery language, but it just
doesn't sound right in English, it comes off sounding to me as crude
propaganda.
News was announced as starting at "4:30 PM," but it did not start
until 1433. Not sure why there was the 3 minute delay. News was read by a
man with Qaddafi referred to as the "leader of the revolution," but they did
not give his name.

freq with French language comments, then on the hour after time tics, the broadcast
continues in Spanish with male and female commentators in the news. At 1011, clear
ID by male as, "... Radio France Internationale...". Then back to news in Spanish.
Signal was good. This is the station that I thought was CRI on the 14th broadcasting

At 14.58:50 UT a strong carrier came on air co-channel totally even
frequency -- the Ethiopian jamming station.

Then a tiny ID in Amharic of Tensae Ethiopia Voice of Unity noted much
underneath at 15.00:50 UT.

At 15.02:20 UT heavy WIDEBAND NOISE HISSING jamming started, (like a hour before on the three DWL Amharic channels 11645, 15640, and
15660 kHz).

Sat Dec 8 at 1411 came upon World Interactive just started
on NHK Warido Radio Japan, 7200. Quite good signal, and no need to listen to
Sackville relay instead, but I checked 11705 anyway, still stronger and running
a few words behind 7200, which is Yamata at 240 degrees to SE Asia, so directly
off the back would be 60 degrees, not too far from their NAm azimuths. The show
had several studio guests, the theme being Japanese people who speak English
well, or are learning to, in order to further their careers. There was a gaijin
in there too, a teacher or something. A prime example of cultural differences,
as the show was full of exaggerated excitement, politeness, oohs and aahs,
everybody talking at once, spurred on by the hostess, Kei (?), excessive from
our point of view, and managing to convey very little useful info except that
participants seemed to be having a wonderful time. She said this edition was
also on video, so she had her makeup on. Maybe they combined it with their Xmas
party featuring a little booze. It certainly sounded like they were high on

DRM on 9455-9460-9465 where I had not noticed it before, Dec
12 at 0649; not NZ since that is still on 9865-9870-9875. 9460 was registered
as 345 degrees from TDF GUF at 05-07 from 11 to 13 December only, so presumably
you will no longer hear it; what programming was it carrying, and why?

After a few weeks on 15790-15795-15800, which replaced 17870-17875-17880, DRM
missing Dec 12 and 13 but at 1438 Dec 13, instead on new 13860-13865-13870,
which I can only assume is the latest replacement. But is it on the official
DRM schedules? Of course not! Nor in HFCC. More RFO Guyane programming? Nothing
about this yet on the DRMNA yg. I am amused when I find a DRM transmission just
by tuning around, without even a DRM receiver, before those who are supposedly
``in the loop``.

BTW, Sofia, Bulgaria is registered for DRM at 04-14 on 13865-13870-13875, but

Some Fridays and Mondays I've been checking
Radio Kahuzi (DRC) on 6210 and noted VOA
programs on that frequency. Once VOA English started
at 1730 UT and last Monday checking at 1840 there was
VOA French to Africa continuing past 1900.
I don't know if Kahuzi inserts any local ID's at the TOH
during these relays. I have at times a nasty tx mixing
product on 6210 from two VOR 49 mb transmitters.

Вчера наблюдал явление, вероятно связанное с какими-то изменениями в
природе (погоде). Мне впервые в центре Минска (в комнате, не на улице)
на Degen 1103 удалось принять целых две станции в диапазоне 60 м:

4860 Всеиндийское Радио урду (индийская музыка) 45344 19:27 UTC

4930 Голос Америки английский (речь и музыка) 45344 19:31 и 20:05 UTC

Ранее в этом диапазоне я принмал только шум, помехи, и один раз
Армянское Радио на 4810, но слышно было во много раз хуже.

USA/more: WWV 5000. 22:25 Mixing with another time station. Other time station's pip or more like a beep was a split of a second
after the WWV pip. Did not hear any "YVTO" voice ID (do they still ID ?) or a female WWVH voice ID, perhaps the voice ID's were

Mess: 4915 at 22:10. English religious station talking of the Christmas season mixing with perhaps Brazil or Ghana. No idea,
however everybody was peaking around S-7 and audio equally mixing with each other making any chance of an ID very difficult. This
will take more time. As I was hoping for the ID of the Relig station at 2300, conditions fell off considerably by then. 12-14-07

religious music. Tried for ID but down in the noise by 22:50.

49 and 60 meters had a very nice "feel" from the time I started around 22:00 until things kinda died off around 22:50 or so.
Received an email today Nasa Science News about perhaps the start of the new solar cycle.

- Radio Serbia check around 1745: Only CRI in English audible on 6100,
only some other station (sounding like Arabic, not further checked)
audible on 7240.

- Radio Algerienne via Issoudun (cf. DXLD 7-151): Last night I checked
7175 and 7295 a couple of times between 2100 and 2300 but could not
detect any signals there. Today around 1745 I found some weak signal on
9610 which I could not further identify in the slope of 9615 = RCI in
Ukrainian (still around, years after the first attempts to abolish it)
via Rampisham with remarkably poor, distorted modulation. Any opinions
on the circumstance that it is their Holy Quran program Radio Algerienne
distributes to Africa? Is promoting this religion a more important task
for them than providing informations from an Algerian point of view?

- St. Helena: No signal here in my apartment so far.

- Toronto 740/860 (cf. DXLD 7-148 and 7-149): The bostonradio.org image
gallery of a station visit in 2004 is of historical value now, acc.
http://www.odxa.on.ca/chwo/transmitters.html both 740 and 860 are run
with new solid-state transmitters (Nautel XR50) since January. To me the
wording does not make it finally clear if all four tube transmitters
were seamlessly replaced or if probably the situation is now such that
two of the elder Continental's were kept as aux with just two new
Nautel's have been installed. And while browsing around I also found a
recording of the "retune" announcement broadcast on 740 in 1999 for one
day before the CBC left this frequency (and gave away the CD as a

station on 15150 kHz in 1300-2000 UT slot on Dec 9th and 10th. QRM
co-channel by VoRUS-RUS, but covered the latter station totally here in
south-western Germany.

Station supposed to be originate from Sabrata Libya, but noted the two
Sabrata outlets still on 17725 and 21695 kHz, IDed in En at 1410 UT, Sabrata

UNIDENTIFIED. Dec 10 at 1344 did a quick out-of-bandscan looking for the
50-kHz-wide clicks which we think are Chinese OTH radar, and found them, this
time indeed inside the 40m hamband, 7045-7090, plus 6610-6650; at 1348,
5195-5240, 5355-5410, 5550-5590; at 1419, 11415-11435. That one seemed only 20
kHz wide, but the actual bandwidth may depend on the overall strength, and the
frequencies given are only approximate, as the signal weakens gradually as it
spreads out (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. As I was out-of-bandscanning for Chinese OTH radar clix, came
upon large S9+20 extremely distorted FMy blob centered about 10906 kHz, Dec 10
at 1420. Talk in seeming western language, could have been English or Spanish.
No // found on 9 or 11 MHz bands, not RHC. Slope detexion on hi side marginally
improved intelligibility but still nothing recognizable. 1430 went into equally
distorted music, 1438 talk again. Could not take any more of it, so despite my
deep curiosity and desire to identify it, went back to the much more pleasant
unID Arabic music on 15150. At 1504 recheck, 10906 was gone. Wish I had FM
capability which probably would have helped. Likely horribly mistuned
transmitter, and finding the intended frequency will be difficult, as not a
leapfrog or harmonic which could be calculated. Hope others can hear this
subsequently, but may prove to have been a one-off, like 7733.5, Nov 7 at
0639-0715 as in DXLD 7-135 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 13848 spreading at least 5 kHz up and down, a continuous noise
but as if keyed irregularly, maybe 7 or 8 shorts, than 2 or 3 longs. Blocked
DGS via WWCR 13845 which was weak anyway as usual here, at 1506 Dec 9, and same
a few minutes later. Possibly jamming something on 13850? Ah yes, Israel`s
Persian, its only remaining external service (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING
DIGEST)

UNIDENTIFIED. 15150, Dec 9 at 1534 and earlier, M singing slowly in very minor
key would be an understatement, Mideastern style, and also at 1606 recheck.
Looking up later, I don`t find anything likely on the three major online
listings, other than possible Indonesia, but doubt that from fair strength, and
style.

15150, continuous Arabic music, some instrumental, much of it vocal too, Dec 10
at 1358, no // found on 15, 13 or 11 MHz bands; one-minute pause at 1359 but no
ID or announcement of any kind before music resumed. Monitored on and off
during following hour; same break at 1459; also a pause at 1521 but maybe just
changing CDs or something. Still going after 1600, but weakening with flutter.
Wolfgang Buschel & Noel Green say the span for this is 1300-2000, and suspect
it is Libya. Erik Koie, Denmark, suspects Iran.

During pause at 1559 heard part of the WYFR trumpet IS before it cut off
abruptly --- unfortunately, I had two radios on at the time, the other tuned to
15240 where R. Sweden via Canada had just closed, and was in another room so
cannot be sure WHICH speaker that came from! It should not have been on either

15150 [tentatively Libya] Likely third tx from Sabrata noted again
on Dec 10th and 11th at 1300-2000 UT. Test transmission with modern Cairo
style Arabic songs and dance orchestra music. Co-channel QRM of VoRUS Moscow
at 13-15 UT. Voice of Africa Sabrata Libya still on 17725 and 21695 kHz at

Ecoute le 08 dec. 07 de 16H15 a 16H40 sur 17520 Khz en AM, YL en espagniole avec serie de numero.
La transmission etait deja commence que je suis arrive sur cette frequence mais j'ai pu ecouter la deuxieme partie.
J'ai pris les numeros mais apres 10 min, ma main n'en pouvait plus !!! De plus, fort QSB et pas mal de QRM du a un broadcast sur
17510 et puis petit a petit, la propagation a chute donc a partir de 16H25, rx tres difficile.
