6080 AUSTRALIA. R. Australia via Shepparton, 1419,
11/10/07. English beamed 334 degrees to FE. S6 signal,
Feature about Australian musical group. (J. Strawman, Des Moines, IA, USA - CumbreDX
11/11/2007)

Албания
R. Tirana, 13640, Nov 10 began programming slightly early at
1529:40. I think it would be better to hold the announcement of the complete
English schedule for the end of each broadcast rather than delay the beginning,
when just the current frequency or frequencies in use should be given. It`s
certainly better than never giving SW frequencies like some SW stations, or
never giving them for the transmission in progress, like Radio Japan.

6110: when open carrier came on about 0326 Nov 11, successfully mashing down
noise and QRM on frequency, I was expecting easy listening from RT; but 0330
theme, opening with full English schedule, were very lowly modulated, compared
to neighboring stations, and even more so compared to that guy on the always
heavily modulated 5070 at the same time (Glenn Hauser, OK, USA - dxldyg 11/11/2007)

Since my latest mention about undermodulation, R. Tirana noted with
much improved modulation level, such as Nov 12 after 0330 on 6110 it was up
too, maybe a bit too much with slight distortion; Nov 12 at 1534 on 13640 with
news and press review (Glenn Hauser, OK, USA - dxldyg 14/11/2007)

R. Tirana November 16, 2007 1945 - 1957 7465 kHz. "News Bulletin" and "Albanian
Press Review". SIO 554
(Kraig, KG4LAC, Manassas, VA, USA - dxldyg 17/11/2007)

R. Tirana, Nov 16 English to NAm at 2115 inaudible on 9915, maybe
off for antenna repairs? Or not propagating, but // 7430 to Europe was coming
in well, so we are still covered with lower winter MUFs (Glenn Hauser, OK, USA
- dxldyg 17/11/2007)

6090 University Network via Caribbean Beacon; 0511, 13-Nov;
Rev. Barbi on fund-raising. SIO=544; //5935 via WWCR, SIO=544 w/xmtr
hum (H. Frodge, MI, USA - CumbreDX 13/11/2007)

Friday Nov 9 was another good day for LRA-36. I was about to go
out and didn`t have time to stay with it, but there was music audible on 15476,
not 15475, at 2052, a few minutes before scheduled closing (Glenn Hauser, OK,
USA - dxldyg 11/11/2007)

After logging Antarctica, I checked to see how well
15345 was incoming, Nov 9 at 2054. Tango music, and announcement in French, so
must have been RAE, but at first I thought there was a subaudible heterodyne,
unlikely for RAE to be that close to nominal frequency to beat against Morocco!
Instead it must have been propagational flutter. The REE service to troops in
ME, 1900-2200 is supposed to be back on 12035 as it was last B, ex-15345 in A
season, as yet unconfirmed here. Nothing audible on the 13363 feeder at this
time (Glenn Hauser, OK, USA - dxldyg 11/11/2007)

15344.37, R. Nacional, 0122-0150, Nov 12, nice program
of jazz (played jazz instrumentals and jazz vocals in English: "She's
Come Undone", "I Got Rhythm", "Mack The Knife", etc.), BoH pips,
mostly fair, poor by tune-out, ID "Radio Nacional Santa Fe", website <
http://www.nacionalsantafe.ceride.gov.ar/ > lists program as
"Soberania y Cultura" and has live audio streaming. Clearly // 6059.9
(poor/QRM/6060.0) (Ron Howard, Canada - dxldyg 12/11/2007)

RAE, 15344.6, Friday Nov 16 at 2253 in what must be DX program in
Spanish, feature about the BBC, and missionary station in Congo DR whose name
sounded like Radio Pacis, really Kahuzi? M&W alternate reading each sentence
of
script. Then some DX tips credited to Arnaldo Slaen and Conexión Digital,
Cairo
6290, Rusia 6240, DW Sines 15275, Zambia 4965; outro at 2258 says it was
Suplemento de Actualidad DX, written by Gabriel Iván Barrera; 2259 into
next
program, Conociendo la Argentina. Tho off-frequency as usual, there was nothing
on 15345 at this hour to het RAE.

Last info I had was that this DX program aired Fridays at 2315, evidently moved
forward to 2250 or so; also supposed to be on 11710, 6060, not heard or
checked. May mean that the original Actualidad DX on Tuesdays is also at 2250
instead of 2315. How about the morning airing I have on the calendar at 1220?
(Glenn Hauser, OK, USA - dxldyg 17/11/2007)

Radio Solh, 15265 via Rampisham UK, still with sticking
CD at 1346-1350, but during the following hour has changed the playlist. Nov
9
at 1420 a bilingual song, lyrix in English by a woman, including ``my heart
throbs`` and ``you be my only one``, anyone recognize that? But other verses
by
M in Pashto(?) (Glenn Hauser, OK, USA - dxldyg 11/11/2007)

Африка
Uganda was noted back on 4976 with good signal the 11 Nov at 2040 UT. Nothing
on 5026.
Also the rather irregular R Bata, Equatorial Guinea was heard on 5005 the 11
Nov at 2042 UT.
(Jari Savolainen, Kuusankoski, Finland - dxldyg 12/11/2007)

Radio Bangladesh is not heard after the cyclone hit Bangladesh.

4750 kHz, 693 kHz MW (1000 kW) etc. used to be heard well here in Hyderabad
before.

On 4750 Chinese station is heard while on 693 kHz an Iran station is
heard this evening.

On 7 Mhz Amateur band a Bangladesh Amateur Station Mr.Maju with
callsign S21AM was reported by Amateurs in Kolkata operating today
daytime with low power on battery (not heard at my station due to band
conditions).
(Jose Jacob, Hyderabad, India - dxldyg 16/11/2007)

7360 Radio Belarus Int'l; *2100-2116+, 13-Nov; ID spots @s/on
and after news @2113; Belarus news to cmtry @2115; EZL music bumpers.
All in EE. SIO=3+32+, QRM includes weak jammer 7350-60; nothing on 7390;
//6090 detectable but covered by roar QRM. (H. Frodge, MI, USA - CumbreDX 16/11/2007)

V. of Biafra International via WHRI, reconfirmed at same hour
now as in A-07, Friday Nov 9 at 2053 on 15665 with diatribe about how Biafra
deserves diplomatic recognition, so still at 2000-2100. The apparently spurious
and never confirmed additional broadcast on Wednesdays at 1915-1945 on 13710
has now been removed from the WHR online schedule when searched on VOBI (Glenn
Hauser, OK, USA - dxldyg 11/11/2007)

5985.8, R. Myanma, 1506-1600*, Nov 12, in English;
pop songs, political slogans ("United we stand", etc.), more songs,
usual marching music, at 1516 - "9:46 Myanmar time", YL with news,
many clear mentions of the State Peace and Development Council,
followed by commentary given with indigenous music in the background,
1528-1558 non-stop generic EZL instrumental music, YL gives list of
titles of the music played, ID "Myanma Radio", anthem. Poor to fair.
Also briefly noted in vernacular at 1356 with fair signal, but totally
covered by Shiokaze sign-on at 1400 on 5985.0 (Ron Howard, Canada - dxldyg 12/11/2007)

Mosoj Chasaski (tentative), 3310 Khz., 0105 - 0130, 11/16/07.
Listed in Quechua. W. with brief talk, M. with long talk, unidentifiable
music, 0129 M. w/ probable s/ off announcement, 0130 off.

Just at threshold, making it impossible to tell what language was spoken.
Not likely Spanish nor English as I would have picked a word or two out of
either of those. Besides, I have no ear for Quechua. Aioki shows Mosoj
Chasaki as off at 0100, but EiBi (A07), and the Mosquito coast list show
0130 or 0200 sign off times, and the 2007 Passport shows 0130 s/off. Mosoj
Chasaki is the only station listed on this frequency. So I am pretty
confident this was it! (Mark Taylor, Madison, Wi. USA - dxldyg 16/11/2007)

4699.37, Radio San Miguel, 0912-0930 Steady music (flutes and drums) until 0930
when male in Spanish comments broadcasts. Poor signal.
(Chuck Bolland, Clewiston, FL, USA 17/11/2007)

6134.80, Radio Santa Cruz, 0955-1000 At tune-in, noted a male in Quechua Language
comments. At 0957, local type music presented. At the hour, promos and canned
ID. Signal
was fair, (Chuck Bolland, Clewiston, FL, USA 17/11/2007)

3390.29 Bolivia, Emisoras Camargo, Camargo 2340 to 0010 om en espanol,

USA - CumbreDX 17/11/2007)

VR, 5885, very good signal Nov 16 at 2235 with bells of St.
Peter`s. Recheck after 2300, playing classical and semi-classical music. 2309
it was there, recheck at 2310 it was gone; moving transmitter to 9600? Tuned
there but XEYU and its het were both too weak (Glenn Hauser, OK, USA - dxldyg
17/11/2007)

The Sackville relay of Vatican Radio, now scheduled 0230-0400
in French, English and Spanish, on 6100 is facing severe interference since
that`s a Radio Republica frequency (not in HFCC). Nov 11 at 0258 tune in, heard
VR // 7305 in English telling a story mixed with DentroCuban jamming on 6100,
no Republica heard, but after 0300 RR was in the mix too. Am not sure where RR
was before 0300, but they had been changing 49mb frequencies via UK (?) on
even-numbered UT hours. Still the heavy QRM at 0328 recheck when VR was in

5975 Radio Japan; 0506-0510+, 13-Nov; News of Japan to

Габон
4777, RTV Gabonaise, 0505-0520 Various persons in French Language news
and comments. At 0510 talk over music by male and female. This followed by
canned ID with Gabonaise/African music. "Gabon, Radio Nationale ...." by female.
Signal was good. (Chuck Bolland, Clewiston, FL, USA, 15/11/2007)

4799.1 Guatemala, Radio Buenas Nuevas, San Sebastián, Huehuetenango
noted last few days, very week 0030 to 0100 and 1150 to 1200 on 16
November. (Robert Wilkner, Pompano Beach, FL, USA - CumbreDX 17/11/2007)

Германия
Deutsche Welle in English, 9880 @ 2035z,
listed via Dhabayya. //9690 not listed on DW website.
9690 audio led 9880 audio by about 3 seconds so 9690
not a spur or image. (J. Lenamon, Texas, USA - dxldyg 12/11/2007)

Another check of the jamming situation against Deutsche
Welle Amharic service, Nov 16: propagation not so good today vs my high local
noise level, and at 1420 nothing audible on 11645 or 15640, which were
originally the frequencies for this service. The day before I had an unID on
15660, and this turns out in fact to be the latest frequency for the DW Amharic
service. At 1420 there was a report about Somalia, as mentioned frequently
along with Washington, and clips in American English into voice-over
translation. Was still not sure of its identity but at 1432 ``Yih Deutsche
Welle Radio`` ID and theme, so it is DW and it is Amharic.

15640 had been Trincomalee, and only the jamming against it was audible here
previously, but the 15660 signal does not have trans-polar characteristics, and
DW has indeed switched site as well as frequency, now Rwanda, as reception was
fair with no polar flutter. And NO jamming audible --- until 1441 when a
slightly unstable carrier came on about 15663 and very slowly began drifting
downwards. 1444 another DW ID and theme on 15660. 1451 the interfering carrier
was receding back upwards from zero-beat to 15661+.

While it was annoying, it never prevented one from hearing what DW was saying,
and understanding it if one spoke Amharic. No sign here of the several other
jamming modes. DW off at usual 1457* after frequency announcement (I wonder if
that had been updated or was deliberately misleading, as jammed services cannot
be blamed for doing). The other carrier stayed on a minute or so, then was gone
too.

Then checking other reports, Noel Green in England made the same ID of 15660,
but assumed it was Trinco ex-15640 and he was still hearing // 11645. Chris
Greenway in England says that Ethiopian Review reports that Ethiopia is also
jamming VOA Amharic since Nov 12. Wolfgang Buschel observes that the only
country likely to provide such sensitive equipment to Ethiopia would be China.

as being relayed via Lampertheim, Germany. Signal was pretty good considering
the location of the transmitter and target area. (Chuck Bolland, Clewiston, FL,
USA, 17/11/2007)

At 1403 tuned in 15660 to find heavy adjacent splash from WHRA 15665.
This is in HFCC as daily, and on WHR website as Mon-Sat, but it
certainly was not there on Thu or Fri during this hour! On 15660 I
could hear presumably DW and no conventional jamming but there seemed
to be another broadcast station mixing with it. This was more certain
at 1430 when one was in talk, the other in music, with a fast SAH
between them.

Meanwhile, there was continuous hash/noise jamming on 15640-15645 and
also on 11645. 15660 for the DW Amharic service appears via Rwanda to
be in addition to rather than replacing another frequency, so I guess
it is still on 15640 Trinco and 11645 Kigali, altho all I can hear is
noise jamming on those frequencies. Yogesh in Hong Kong was still
hearing DW on 15640 Nov 16 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

We received NO reports yesterday about whether the VOA or FEBA
broadcasts to Ethiopia could be heard with any jamming on them, so I
hope on Saturday in the time remaining some Europeans can check these
out:

REE, 17595: on Saturday Nov 10 we were spared an interruption at 1455
on 17595 to announce changes in other frequencies; Battle Hymn of the Republic
went right on playing. Not clear why, as schedule shows 21540 for Africa
changing to 17755 at 1500 daily.

I previously noted the new pdf 24-hour program grid for REE which shows
different times for Amigos de la Onda Corta, and on Nov 11 at 0105 confirmed
that it`s no longer aired at its old hour UT Sundays, but instead a show about
the cinema on 6055. Besides two inconvenient overnight hours in NAm, the times
for us to hear it now are UT Sunday 0405, which I missed this week, on 6055,
6125, 9535, 9620, and also via Costa Rica on 3350, 5965, 9675, but 5965
colliding with Vatican; and UT Monday 0330 on same except 9765 instead of 5965

Amigos de la Onda Corta on REE confirmed at one of its new times, in

Lately I have suspected jamming on 5955, obviously against
R. Republica`s latest but weak frequency 5954.1. It`s hard to pull out from the
sideband splatter caused by WYFR 5950 and Sackville 5960, but I am now pretty
certain I am hearing separate grinding. At 0302 Nov 11, could not even detect
a
carrier on 5954; if heard at all, that`s better here a few hours earlier.

RHC, 6140, before 0300 UT Nov 11 was quite strong and // 9600. At 0306 recheck
I was hearing something else in Spanish on 6140. At first I thought it might
be
the Rebelde or Progreso network, but 0315 a bit of `skylark` music reminded me
that R. Romania Internacional is scheduled here in Spanish; still mixing with
weaker RHC, taking turns dominating

Openings on 13m can be unexpectedly selective. Nov 10 at 1451, 21695

Allah, ID as V. of Africa from the Great Jamahiriyah, then for our dear
listeners, a talk in a series about African countries, Mauritius, going into
its basic geographical facts, 1455 languages spoken there, etc. Someone else
reported VOA feature on Mauritius recently, which makes me suspect they recycle
the same programming several times, as previously noted with items on Martin
Luther King, etc. BTW, Dave Kenny in BDXC-UK observes that VOA is no longer
doing short English newscasts at various times, so it seems for English, this
bihour is it (Glenn Hauser, OK, USA - dxldyg 11/11/2007)

I keep seeing publicity stating that Frecuencia RM, the VOR Spanish
DX program is at 0120 UT Wednesdays to Latin America. But that was the summer
timing. Surely like everything else it is now one hour later. I finally
confirmed this myself Nov 14, when at 0120 hard news and commentary kept going.
6240 via Moldova was by far the best frequency. Then I switched to the live
stream via the VOR-2 link at publicradiofan.com and kept listening for the rest
of the hour. No DX program, but there was a 4-minute mailbag segment at 0143.
At hourtop the program summary for next hour did not mention Frecuencia RM,
just like it is missing from the LAm programming on their website, so I
suspected it was gone! But I let it play and Frecuencia RM did appear at
0222-0237, so it`s still there, a full 15 minutes, and an hour later. Most of
it was taken up by a segment from La Rosa de Tokio, namely an old Argentine
comedy show from Radio Provincia de Buenos Aires, which I would have needed to
be a native to understand and get anything out of (Glenn Hauser, OK, USA - dxldyg

Weak signal in English on 6115, Nov 16 at 2147, which per

Two personal firsts so not a bad morning in that sense. Conditions were
a little improved from the previous nights but still poor. Fancying a
challenge, I recorded 1310 (splattered to bits by Barnsley's tx on 1305)
and I heard ......... lots of splatter! There were brief moments where
music surfaced which sounded Spanish.

960 had light pops again. Possibly rock music so maybe CFFX. I never
tried for CHUC 1450 before they closed.

Some late DX poked through at 10:45 - WWKB had a very weak signal at
this time. I could still hear the audio.

Will 'try' to do some live sunrise listening tomorrow for a change.

Much better reception overnight and lots heard but again few IDs.

After hearing a second station mixing with WWZN on 1510, then a third, I
thought it would be a good idea to stay put. Firstly, WLAC put in an
appearance before 01:00 but there was a country station competing by
03:40. Just before 04:00 an old country song was trying to dominate and
I was hoping to hear a legal ID but WLAC just came in at the wrong
moment and squashed it flat. I suspect the country station was KCKK
(Littleton, Colorado) - heard in southern Scotland recently.

I used Winrad tonight so I could see the carriers on the channel. WWZN
was clearly off frequency as usual, but WLAC and the country station
were almost on top of each other, separated by a tiny amount.. A fourth
carrier appeared briefly at sunrise (KGA?) but it was well below the
audio threshold. (J. Faulkner, U.K. - skywavesmw 11/11/2007)

1310 produced "Oldies 13-10" which is the slogan of CIWW. This is the
first time I have heard this since the mid 80s.

At 04:03 I had a second station at equal levels with WWZN playing music
similar to the Star Wars theme as the start of a programme.

I'd really like to know who my UNID 830 is. I have never anything on
here until I moved the ewe to its present NW position. According to
lists I have found, both WCCO (Iowa) and WCRN are candidates. I suspect
WCRN is the most likely but since KXEL was so good on 1540 ... etc.

I`ve been tied up with other things, and haven`t caught up with all the posts
yet, but for the record, I tried for the WFAW 940 test and think I may have
heard it. Listened from 0659 to 0710 UT or so Nov 12 and at 0700 sharp heard
a
few notes of the Star Spangled Banner, which these days is unusual altho it
might have been a Mountain zone station signing off at local midnight.
Apparently not the whole anthem, unless there was a quick fadeout. Then some
sweeps. That was it; no voice or code ID copied, as 940 was dominated by a
nortenya station playing music, believed to be XEYJ Nueva Rosita, as I caught
the J in the call (not XEQ dominant any more!), and couldn`t null it out, being
close to colinear in opposite direxion from WI. Not expecting a QSL on such
sketchy info, but Wonder if the SSB at 0700 matches anyone else`s log. Using
a
DX-398 with internal antenna only. (Glenn Hauser, Enid, OK, USA - dxldyg 13/11/2007)

I was checking on LW at around 23:02 UTC. Listening to Europe 1 at 183
Khz with nice signal, there was a big het wistleling. First, I tought
it was Iceland on 189.Iceland was present on his channel but it was
uncommon that it was almost blocking 183. After a quick check, there
was sign of strong carrier on 180. That one was gone about one minute
later wich is, according to EMWG and WRTH the time that Turkish Radio
and Television Corp.(TRT) was signing off. (Sylvain Naud, Portneuf, Quebec, Canada

1510 KCKK Littleton CO. Presumed. Sports under WWZN. Possible

peaks F 0400 13/11 JF

It's a tentative / presumed logging as there really isn't anything else
this could be, plus it's been heard by a number of other UK DXers recently.

KCKK is currently using more power for its night time transmissions than
during the day. It also has a nice radiation lobe to the north-east
which is directing more of the signal in our direction. With 25kW
beaming right at us this might be one worth looking out for over the
next few weeks. There is a reason for this.

Patrick Griffith (N0NNK), contract engineer for the KCKK relocation
project wrote the following in a recent response to a report from MWC
members Paul crankshaw:

"KCKK-1510 inherited the call sign and the classic country format about
9 months ago when 1600 switched to sports. 1510 also has a brand new
transmitter site which is still in the process of having the directional
pattern adjusted. We have been transmitting with the night pattern
during the day quite often while we make adjustments. We have to take
all of the measurements during the day so that they are not affected by
the ionosphere. It is quite possible that we were on night pattern when
you heard us. KCKK-1510 is one of those rare stations that transmits
with higher power at night and lower power during the day. "

KCKK's online slogan is "Mile High Sports" http://www.milehighsports.com/

792 kHz is transmitted
from Malgara, west of Thessaloniki together with 1179 kHz, via a
combiner through the same antenna.

792 kHz is using a HARRIS 100KW transmitter, transferred to ERT by
IBB, years back. An identical transmitter is operating in Corfu
(Kerkyra) for at least 4 years by now. <<

This is quite interesting: IBB gave away two new mediumwave transmitters
to Greece and at almost the same time did bother to move a rather old
tube transmitter (I think it's a Continental 318.5A which should be
basically a 150 kW version of the 317 model) from Holzkirchen to Kuwait.
Do we still have to be surprised about IBB rigorously shutting down
their Greece operations after hearing about such things?

And in fact activating 792 from Malgara is a return, since it was on air
from here until the Xanthi/Kavala plant had been opened and the 150 kW
at Malgara reused by ERT on 1044. Probably this old VOA transmitter is
still on air there, or has it been replaced by a new one in the
meantime?

Btw, Malgara is located on the shores of the Axios river, certainly a
good location for an AM transmitter site. But don't bother, only poor
aerial images of this are are online. (Yahoo has the best material, if
somebody still wants to try.)

Some transmitter pictures (both sites/antennas and equipment) are
available at
http://www.deutsches-drm-forum.de/html/drm_sendestellen.html

Go to "Sender-Kurzwelle", "Sender-Mittelwelle" and "Sender-Langwelle",
respectively. The farest away, different looking transmitters in the
Jülich hall are the 1968 vintage SV2420 units which had been left there,
unlike all the even older equipment which had been replaced by S4001
transmitters. Moosbrunn: It is my understanding that rather the new
Thomson transmitters there are in use for the (now almost discontinued,
away from a single CVC transmission) DRM services while the second S4005
unit is largely occupied by AWR and the first one on air all-day long on
6155 anyway. Btw, some hints indicate that Moosbrunn could probably face
its closure if ORF should decide to abandon shortwave. Zehlendorf: The
mentioned TRAM 200S is on 693, not on 603 (that's a TRAM 50, run at 20
kW). TRAM 200S is correct, it had been upgraded to 250 kW AM carrier

Digital Radio

У HCJB

accent. Music loop jammer started at 0402 causing some co-channel
QRM. Jammers signal strength varied from weak to fairly strong
making reception quite difficult at times. (B. Alexander, PA, USA - dxldyg 17/11/2007)

Voice of Biafra This one had been from
LeSea-Maine, but I can no longer find a listing for it on the LeSea website.
The Biafra website seems to have outdated information with a schedule of

15.67 MHz.

Does anyone have any further information? (Johnson Cumbre DX Nov 7)

their transmissions due to "technical problems." They say it

the jamming?]

localizada

a 2000 m s.n.m).
gran abrazo
(Patricio De Los Rios, Temuco, Chile - playdx2003 15/11/2007)

http://www.dxsignal.ru/audio/Kad07/Kad07_KBSWorld_VoA_1170_1059UTC.wav

http://www.dxsignal.ru/audio/Kad07/Kad07_tentLiaoninPBS_1089_1115UTC.wav
http://www.dxsignal.ru/audio/Kad07/Kad07_tentLiaoninPBS_1089_1121UTC.wav

http://www.dxsignal.ru/audio/Kad07/Kad07_UNID_Chinese_1386_1129UTC.wav
http://www.dxsignal.ru/audio/Kad07/Kad07_UNID_Chinese_1386_1135UTC.wav

http://www.dxsignal.ru/audio/Kad07/Kad07_tentHubeiPBS_1404_1139UTC.wav

http://www.dxsignal.ru/audio/Kad07/Kad07_tentLiaoningPBS_999_1145UTC.wav

http://www.dxsignal.ru/audio/Kad07/Kad07_UNID_Chinese_1179_1217UTC.wav

www.radioheritage.net.

9780.05 1647-1720 Nov 11, Middle Eastern mx to just past ToH, then
YL with apparent news to 1717; man took over at 1717 but signal had
become unreadable by then. The news seemed to be in a Farsi-like language
- maybe VOIRI? (J. M. Wilkins, CO, USA - CumbreDX 11/11/2007)

15645 and vicinity, oscillating jamming is back as heard in late
A-07 when Tensae Ethiopia Voice of Unity was on 15645 after 1500. But this was
Nov 13 at 1433, and Tensae is supposedly on 11900 for B-07. The jamming was
also bothering Greece on 15650. Weak, but the oscillations seemed to be
centered around 15647 and 15643; could not detect whatever on 15645 they were
targeting. Another Ethiopian clandestine, if not Tensae? Nothing on the TDP
schedule there now.

BTW, skywave jamming would work best inside Ethiopia if it were transmitted
from abroad, but who would cooperate in such nefariousness? I don`t know much
about the Ethiopian political situation, but I believe most of the clandestines
are based in the US, despite US government support for the regime, which
according to a recent documentary cooperated with `extraordinary rendition`
(Glenn Hauser, OK, USA - dxldyg 14/11/2007)

I've also been noting jamming on 9445
between the hours of 1600 and 1700, and on looking at the TDP schedule find
that four different stations share the frequency on various days during the
week. Jamming has also been noted on 11900 between 1500 and 1600, but I
haven't tried in recent days - maybe they shifted back to 15645 to try to
avoid it? (Noel Green, U.K. - dxldyg 14/11/2007)

On which side of the pond is the unidentified on 13650 coming from (Nov.14)?
A concert (with audience) of American singers and guitars has been in
progress from before 1530 (I don't know the artists) and still going at 1615
without any announcements heard so far. It's a fair to weak signal here, now
with lots of fading. (Noel Green, U.K. - dxldyg 15/11/2007)

I suspect Saudi Arabia has made some schedule changes not yet
showing up in the registrations. Once again on Nov 14 at 1500, no sign of the
scheduled Call of Islam service on 15435, but at 1507 I did hear a weak muezzin
on 15170, which is a BSKSA frequency in the local mornings, but nothing
scheduled at this hour; no more audible at 1528 recheck (Glenn Hauser, OK, USA
- dxldyg 15/11/2007)

15660, something new here not in HFCC or Aoki, at 1408 news with
English actualities, voiceovered in unID language, about Pakistan. Sounds like
a major broadcaster (Glenn Hauser, OK, USA - dxldyg 15/11/2007)

4980, 2340-0010 Noted a female in steady comments during
the period. QRM and fading make for difficult listening here.(CODAR). At 2359,
music
heard until the hour when the female returns with more comments. Later at 0009,
a male joins with comments. I initially thought this might be a Spanish
Language station, but the more I listen, the less I feel that way. I am thinking
this
might be China, the Urumqi People's Broadcasting Station on this freq of 4980?
However, nothing certain and everything Tentative. The signal was threshold
by
0010. I heard this a couple of weeks ago and it "stumped" me then too.

15102 0613z Voice of Indonesia, Just a blob of noise till I switched to FM
then a clear 5x6 signal with English Lesson " Lessons for Tourists " peaking
5x7, presume this is for the locals in Indonesia, so they can converse
with Holiday Makers. (David Vitek, Adelaide, Australia - harmonics 13/11/2007)

Odd; they don`t have English scheduled at that hour. Seems to me an English
lesson would be on the RRI domestic service, not VOI external. If you get it
again, please try for parallel, such as 9680? If not 15150 mistuned, could it
be an harmonic, such as 3x something on 5034? Also, not knowing much about
transmitters, I have always found it strange that an AM transmitter could
inadvertently go into FM mode. How does this happen? (Glenn Hauser, OK, USA -
harmonics 13/11/2007)

Now it seems that the Ethiopians, or their supporters,
are jamming Deutsche Welle. Nov 14 at 1443 I found jamming on 11645, wavering
carriers sweeping slowing back and forth across the frequency, causing hets of
constantly varying pitch, but as they swept they were also wobbling up and
down. At maximum deviation the pitch was high enough that interference to the
target was minimized, but it was worst when approaching and receding from
zero-beat. The main jammer was much stronger than the target, whose language
I
could not identify. With BFO on, I could hear the varying carriers on both
sides of 11645.

This was quite different from the rapidly oscillating jamming heard during the
same period the day before on 15645, but nothing audible there today. At 1455
the jamming against 11645 shifted, or another transmitter was added, with more
rapid oscillation. But the target went off between 1457 and 1458 and so did all
the jamming shortly afterwards.

At 1459 a somewhat stronger carrier came back on, and 1500 Deutsche Welle ID,
into language. I figured the previous station on 11645 would be yet another
Ethiopian clandestine, but looked up in HFCC, we find it`s the Amharic service
of DW at 1400-1457 via Rwanda, at 30 degrees! Followed at 1500 by DW Swahili
via Rwanda, at 180 degrees --- why would they aim Swahili due south from
Rwanda??

As for the source of the jamming, either the Ethiopians have made a
considerable investment in a somewhat sophisticated SW jamming system, or they
are clients of an hypothetical International Jamming Services, Ltd. which uses
spare capacity at well-known HF transmitter sites on a mercenary basis.

Tuned in 11645 earlier in the hour the next day, Nov 15 at 1404; could not hear
any DW until after 1430, but the jamming was underway, variable carrier hets,
but also solid noise, motorboating. Wolfgang Buschel was also monitoring this
and pointed out that the // frequency for DW Amharic is 15640 via Sri Lanka,
and that has also been getting jammed. I heard that too Nov 15 at 1407, just
noise, and much more effective. He describes the jamming as ``a combination of
four sounds, like bubble, motorboat, pips, and whistle buoy howl. Never heard
about jamming against DWL Amharic before in past decades or so`` (Glenn Hauser,
OK, USA - dxldyg 15/11/2007)
