“Of course, when you are mentioned in that context, that’s very nice, it is pleasing, but I don’t really preoccupy myself with that. I want my team to win, God willing, we might win the World Cup tomorrow, other things are outside of my control. Let me not repeat myself again, what I’m after is nation team success, individual rewards are not priority.”
Croatia’s head coach Zlatko Dalic and team captain Luka Modric took part in a press conference in Moscow on Saturday, just one day before his team’s historic World Cup final against France.
“Win or lose, there will be a seismic event tomorrow in Croatia, and this brings us strength and motivation, one of the greatest motivators are our fans,” he said.
“Hopefully there will be 4 million people tomorrow celebrating in the streets,” he added.

“I think the main legacy is the transformation of the country’s image and a change of people’s mood. In fact, it is the most important thing,” Dvorkovich said, adding that the financial impact should not be assessed in terms of GDP, but the “tourism, trips, travel account for a new source of growth which we did not have before but which we have got as a result of the World Cup.”
Sorokin analysed some of the statistics of the event. “The World Cup’s efficiency is 2.6 of goals per match and only one 0-0 draw. It means a great result for the World Cup,” he said.
“There is a figure which scares even me. During the World Cup, [Russian] airports handled 15,000,000 people. It is really a stunning figure,” he continued, adding “over this period more than 1,000,000 foreign guests visited us. For such a short time frame, this figure is probably unprecedented.”

Manchester United boss Jose Mourinho discussed the third-place playoff between England and Croatia in an interview in Manchester on Saturday.
“This is a game that doesn’t make sense. I think that players and managers and fans after losing a semi-final, they just deserve to go home, in the professional case to have a rest to prepare the next season,” he said, adding “and nobody likes to play the final of the losers,” the manager said.
“But when you have to you have to play it in a positive way,” Mourinho continued, adding “it’s better to finish third than fourth.”
Talking about how to motivate players for such a match, the Manchester United boss said that one way would be to give players that did not play too frequently during the main tournament a chance on pitch, while another method would be to forget about fatigue and play the strongest side.
“When you reach a semi-final you’re almost touching the sky, if you lost the semi-final and then if you lose the third and fourth match you go home after two defeats,” he concluded.

2018-07-14 19:49
Secretary-General of the Supreme Committee for Delivery and Legacy for 2022 World Cup Hassan Al Thawadi talked about the challenges Qatar would face hosting the next tournament, as well as the tournament’s ability to change people’s perceptions about other countries, during an interview with former Danish goalkeeper Peter Schmeichel in Moscow on Friday.
“We are ready. We are on the path based on the plan we have set up,” he said. When asked about Qatar’s preferences over hosting 48 or 32 teams, Thawadi said the country had been preparing for the latter format so far.
Speaking about Qatar’s decision to move the dates of the future tournament to the winter period, Thawadi explained it by saying that such a shift could probably enhance the performance of footballers. “Because you actually looking at players in the middle of the season not at the end of the season. So, you are actually looking at players representing country, representing people, representing the flag at a time when they can actually deliver at the height of their performance,” he elaborated.
Thawadi along with Schmeichel and the host went on to discuss the challenges fans might face in Qatar focusing on the cultural issues and local rules and laws.
The sport official noted that Qatar’s World Cup would be “slightly” different in terms of the dressing traditions and the rules concerning the consumption of alcohol but would do its best to welcome people “from different walks of life and different parts of the world.”
“You know, it is a different culture, yes, but it is not a restrictive culture as people might actually think,” he said.
From his perspective, a World Cup is a unique platform to break down people’s stereotypical views of other nations. “Our message from the very beginning — bring the world cup to the Arab World, let the World see who we are,” Thawadi pointed out.
“And if there was ever tournament that you can see quintessentially transform people’s minds about, you know, from human interaction — Russia did it,” he said.
