…does the name Steve Thompson mean anything to anybody? (It should do to you Bill, he was a member of the England World Cup winning rugby team that gave the Aussies and your precious All Blacks a pounding in 2003). Well…here’s a little known fact about him. He was also a roller speed skater. I’ve recently been asked by a publiscist to give some information on Steve.

Apart from the obvious ones - ie. Hedrick, Parra, Sanfratello - who all won Olympic golds at ice skating, do you know of any other youngsters that have skated competitively across the globe that have found fame and fortune in any other walk of life, skating or otherwise?

Prior to this week I have been doing some experiments and gathered tools and basic knowledge for boot making. I still have a lot to learn but at this point I feel confident that I am ready to start the project.
For these World Championships, I’m focused on sprint distances. I think the sprint level in France is higher in comparison to the past years. But we have to be carrefull, because some countries like Italy or the Netherlands (Mulder’s brothers) were not at their real level during the European Championships. The World Championships will be a new competition, and everybody restart at the same point.

Google Maps now offer a walking directions option. Just select "Walking" in the pull-down menu. That option provides a direct route that has limited inclines and uses easy to walk...
I’ve been taking my training quite seriously. To take a break from training and relax with friends, Morgane and I started taking part in Nante’s Thursday Night Skate.
Last Thursday’s skate was ‘water fight night’ (splatch), where people brought water guns, water balloons, pails of water, scuba diving suits, flippers, and more so they can continually spray and splash each other for 2 hours. See photos here.
Francois and Marie- Yann Guyader (in blue t shirt) ended up going home with some fantastic shots- I was really glad to finally meet Francois and Marie who have taken many beautiful pictures. Marie is wearing the white shirt and Francois is wearing the blue costume
