quoting One:
Since the beginning of ONE the back cover has been an opportunity we’ve used to present the personality of rollerblading. Often times that has included an actual person, but for our latest issue photographer John Haynes produced an image that captured more than a thousand words about the true essence of blading.

In European Championship 2008 in Germany, Bill Begg wrote some of his thoughts on the sprints for the European Senior Championships. Racing should be under way today-
…Big Gregory is looking Fine, the Wout is smiling & confident, Dennis Dressel the local Gera Boy has grown 10 sizes & lookes ready for the USA NBL, Miracle Man Matthias is in there, but for sure happy to be on skates at present. Alex Contin missed out on sprint spot number 3 in a run off, with 2 people apart from the French Coach telling me the supposidly famous 0.2 slower time was a one off bodgy. The Dutch think they have a gig chance & thePortugeese have simply worn a grove in the track, doing 50 more 300T/T than needed…

The thread World Cup Topics for 2008 has seen a flurry of activity and comments over the last day or so- between the bitter comments and fighting, you’ll pick out some bits of history and also some challenges that skaters have faced and continue to face-

Even in 2004 topay her Worlds accomodation, a Week before Nicole had to race St. Kanzian WIC, got cut off & beaten by an Italian named Cinza & only got 2nd money, so had to go to Padova on the Sunday morning & win one to get enough money, two nights sleeping in a van 25 hours travel & two marathons, then Worlds track5 days later, thats doing it tough, but 4 Bronze medals, thats doing it hard.
The South American debate Marcello alludes to (I’m assuming here?) is an interesting one. That having a poor standard of living and hardships might make these guys have a greater desire to be better than the rest? I don’t know. It doesn’t really stack up, though, when you consider that the USA is the richest nation in the world but also produces champions year on year. So I suppose the question is which is more important to make you a world beater? Desire or money (or mad parents!!)? And can you be a champion today without one or the other?

I only have two things to announce. #1 The workload is incredibly large and #2 expect major delays. I’m starting to sound like the construction reports around many of the local freeways. It’s true though. I will admit that I have taken on an nearly unsurmountable amount of work.

Today was the final training for the team on the track before race day. While the Dutch were finalising their preparations doing some last minute sprints the French decided to go onto the track 30 minutes before their time and cause a bit of havoc getting in our way. Other than that the day went smooth. Everyone got their numbers, passes and when they are at the hotel resting the men are sitting
