A major international bank's wealth management company starting up business development in Russia

Purpose of the job

∙ Based in the company’s new representative office (projected to open in 2009), to focus on achieving long term growth, profitability and improved market penetration and visibility for the British Isles (BI) trust business in Russia.
∙ Although private client fiduciary services will be the primary responsibility, this person will also act as a local BD resource for our British Isles’ Corporate Employee and Executive Services (CEES) business.
∙ To deliver, as part of the BI Trust sales and business development team, new fee revenue targets to be agreed annually.
∙ To develop, manage and enhance local relationships with intermediaries both internal (the bank's private bankers) and external (lawyers and other advisors to HNW persons). Teaming with local colleagues will be essential.
∙ To actively promote and cross-sell GPB’s international wealth management capability (i.e., trust services in non-BI jurisdictions where appropriate as well as non-trust services in conjunction with local private banking HNW and EHNW colleagues).
∙ To broaden the range of referral sources currently available, mainly around Moscow but also other key regions in Russia.
∙ Although not a client handling role, to assist with trust client retention where appropriate.

Responsibilities

∙ Build the client base of the business through lead generation from sources including internal and external intermediaries and existing and new clients.
∙ Liaison with local colleagues, potential clients and advisors/COIs to determine needs, objectives and solutions.
∙ To promote the ability of the bank's International Wealth Management in conjunction with other specialists, wherever necessary, to provide advice on all aspects of trusts and other relevant solutions and services.
∙ To assist in the ongoing monitoring of the PCFS business development plan for Eastern Europe.
∙ To participate in activities and implement initiatives set out in the annual PCFS business development ‘mini plan’ for Eastern Europe in order to increase the client base of the business and resultant revenue generation in line with such plan.
∙ To keep up to date with all new planning opportunities as well as key jurisdictional updates that may be relevant to or enhance existing and potential client relationships.
∙ Ensure that any new business gained is structured and located in a manner that is most appropriate for the client.
∙ Team player skills and behaviours essential to ensure success and business acceptance.
∙ Working closely and effectively with Eastern European focused trust professionals in Jersey and London as well as investment professionals in London and Geneva, on client take-on and structuring and ensure effective and seamless hand over of new business to trust professionals (e.g., trust directors) following set up.
∙ Working closely and effectively with other members of the local Moscow team.
∙ Ensure that all applicable regulatory requirements and internal guidelines are met.
∙ Candidate will likely spend at least several weeks in the Channel Islands trust operation to enhance internal relationships as well as obtain a solid understanding of the trust offering and the administration personnel.
∙ Completion of KYC on all new business in accordance with the bank's policies.
∙ Work closely with Group Risk Management and the trust directors in relation to the business acceptance process and reassessing whether the risk/reward associated with such new business is appropriate.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS REQUIRED

∙ Comprehensive experience, trust based and cross industry, with a good understanding of financial markets and offshore fiduciary planning techniques.
∙ Good knowledge of Russian tax and other relevant law applicable to offshore trusts and companies.
∙ Good knowledge of offshore trust and company law and regulation.
∙ Russian language skills and cultural affinity.
∙ A proven track record in sourcing and delivering quality profitable trust business.
∙ Previous exposure and experience to marketing and business development initiatives coupled with an ability to identify and develop new markets.
∙ A proven track record in relationship management.
∙ Strong inter-personal skills with the ability to communicate with clients, advisors, colleagues etc at a senior level.
∙ A team player – team orientated.
∙ Ability to grasp issues at a strategic, technical and practical level.
