First Announcement & Call for Participation
-------------------------------------------

The Second Annual School in the framework of EU Marie-Curie Network
SAGA (www.saga-network.eu) will take place at Kolympari, Greece, on
October 4-8, 2010. SAGA aims at supporting the exchange of ideas
between Computer-Aided Design, Geometric Modeling, Algebraic Geometry,
and Numerical Analysis. The School puts an emphasis on training by
offering a variety of seminars, ranging from software tutorials to
algorithmic presentations.

Program
-------
There will be an in-depth introduction to the CAD/CAM suite of
TopSolid by the SAGA partner Missler Software (Paris), while the
following keynote speakers will survey SAGA-related areas of their
expertise, and offer tutorial and open problems sessions:

* Alicia Dickenstein (UBA, Buenos Aires)
Implicitization techniques: a fruitful interaction between
practitioners and algebraists

* Tor Dokken (SINTEF, Oslo)
The history of CAD and some examples of its use in industry

* Tom Grandine (Boeing, Seattle)
CAD in the aircraft industry

* Panagiotis Kaklis (NTUA, Athens)
CAD in the shipbuilding industry

* Dominique Laffret (Missler Software, Paris)
Overview of the CAD market, vendors and software/hardware requirements

Science journalist Dana Mackenzie (San Francisco) will talk and lead
an interactive session on "Communicating science to journalists and
the general public". Participants are expected to bring their own
laptop in order to participate in the software tutorials; please let
us know, if this is not possible. There will be a Poster session,
where all participants may present their work.

Grants
------
We provide a number of grants to support participation of young
researchers. This includes senior MSc students, PhD students, and
Postdocs with less than 5 years since their PhD. The grant covers all
local costs, including registration, accommodation, full board, the
School banquet, and the excursion. Partial travel support might
be included upon demand. Interested applicants should send (preferably
as a single PDF file): a detailed CV, including at least one
reference, a short letter of motivation and, optionally, the title and
abstract of a poster to contribute to the Poster session, at:

saga2010@di.uoa.gr, by July 15, 2010.

The list of successful applicants will be announced at the School
website by August 25, 2010.
