Through this site's referrers I just learnt of the This Week in Lotus podcast. I don't normally listen to podcasts, purely because I don't have the time and find it distracting if I try and work while listening to them, but, as I knew my name would crop up in them, I just downloaded them. I'm vain like that.
What surprised me was that they didn't, as I'd feared, portray me as the attention-seeker I sometimes worry I might come across as (I'm quite sensitive (another un-manly trait of mine) and upset easily). Instead they took the things I've said and had a rational and balanced discussion around them.
The podcasts are worth a listen if you have the time, as they talk about much more besides things I've brought up recently.
For the record though I am notmoving to SharePoint. I am still a Domino developer. Perhaps one day I will be purely a Microsoft developer. It's much more likely I'll just be both though.
What I am doing is taking a look down an alternative path. Perhaps I'll turn back. Perhaps I won't. In the interim I'll still be undertaking any Domino work new or existing customers approach me with. It's all about the bills.
Within a week of me mentioning SharePoint a customer I'd not heard from in years has been back in touch and asked if I'm interested in doing some SharePoint work for them. Read in to that what you will.
One of the questions they asked was "Do you have a server you can demo it on?". The answer was "No, but I'll get one".
First thing I did was Google "sharepoint hosting" but nothing stood out and nothing seemed to fit the bill. Then it dawned on me. Surely all I need is a basic Windows hosting package, atop of which I can install SharePoint Server? Is my thinking correct? Any tips?

It took a while but it now looks like the changes I made back in April, which aimed to improve this site's SEO, have kicked in and had a positive effect.
Change 1
The first change I made was to use a server-based Rule document to permanently redirect all domains to the same place. If you visit http://codestore.info you'll end up at http://www.codestore.net.
Whereas Google used to consider all the different (sub)domains as different sites, it now seems to consider them as one. Here's how the PageRank of each domain has been affected, according to whatsmypagerank.com:
Domain
PageRank Before
PageRank After
www.codestore.net
5
5
codestore.net
5
5
www.codestore.org
3
5
codestore.org
3
5
www.codestore.info
2

codestore.info

As you can see all sites now have the same PageRank. Unfortunately this hasn't (yet?) had the desired effect of increasing it from a 5 to a 6. The PageRank for this site used to be 6. Although I won't be losing any sleep over my PageRank.
Change 2
The other problem I tried to alleviate was that of "duplicate content". Consider the image below of a search illustrating how Google considered /store.nsf/ as a different page to the root / URL. Not good.
To rectify this I added a canonical link to all page. In the head of each page is now a meta tag like this:
Again, this seems to have worked as, no matter what I search for now, I can't seem to get the same page to appear in the results more than once.
Summary
There you go. Two simple changes that have had an "immediate" effect on this site's SEO. If you have your own site or are responsible for others then why not make the changes too?
Only time will tell if the changes take the PageRank back up to 6. For now I'll just have to accept it as yet another sign that this site's not what it used to be ;-(
A nice feature of Lotus Notes is that you can see the number of documents you have not read in a particular database (ahum sorry.. application) from the workspace.
The downside of this feature is that it assumes a document requires a persons attention if the user has not read it/seen the updates. This may work for e-mail and (some) document libraries. However for many applications having read a document, it just doesn't mean anything.
Just think of a workflow application where you could display on the workplace icon how many icons really need the users attention.
For the calendar icon it could display the number of unanswered meeting requests. For e-mail it can just be the unread count as it is today.
Kinda like (yet again) the iPhone interface.
This would save a lot of notification mails and really add a LOT of value to the user experience IMHO.
Don't know about the technical implementation: maybe replace the unread mechanism, re-use the unread mechanism or put a table on the side.
Each project can now be opened via these
short URLs: http://www.openntf.org/p/[ProjectName],

If you set this option (General -> Editors -> Text Editors), then when you click End cursor is immediately after the last significant (non-Space and non-Tab) characters. This is inconvenient because to verify "whether the end the space or tabulation?" must once again press End, except at the ends of lines is a lot of unnecessary hollow characters.
Disabling this option is not an option, because off the possibility of extended keys Home, which works correctly.
The first press End cursor should go to the very end of the line, while the second (if necessary) - established after the last significant character, as it is in some other text editors (there is a special option for this).
