We got a letter from our electricity provider recently to say our bill was going up from 38 to 50 pounds a month.  The week after I bought a ReadyNAS Duo to replace the five-year-old Dell PowerEdge server that's been sitting burning electricity in the cellar.

Although the PowerEdge started out as an Active Directory PDC, DNS server and the main Notes server time's have changed and it's now redundant. All it did in the end was act as a file server and spent 99.9% of its time doing nothing at all. The ReadyNas now does the file sharing while burning a lot of less power, offering RAID backup and has oodles more space (1.5TB!).

My never-ending quest for the ideal SOHO IT setup continues. As I do this it's inevitable that a pile of old kit would mount up. Here's mine:

As well as the PowerEdge there are two working IBM servers, a Dell Inspiron laptop (low-spec but works) and an IBM ThinkPad T42 (spare parts only). There's also quite a few old routers and other bits of kit I don't need.

I've put it all in the corner of the office to force me in to doing something with it other than hiding it all in cupboards or the cellar.

Having looked on eBay I can see I won't get much (if anything) for any of it. What I'd like to do is give it to a good home. Somebody who is in the same position I was in years ago and needs a server to put LAMP on to learn web development. All three servers are perfectly capable of running a small home web development server.

What I don't want to do is give it to some Freecycle lurker who would simply pedal it on at next Sunday's car boot. Ideally I want to give it to a charity who I think might make good use of it. Anybody know how I go about doing that?

You may have experienced problems where you have antivirus installed and some emails are in dead state in your mail.box. This is in many cases because you have an antivirus and another product (like a disclaimer installed). IBM should do a better job to fix this. The appearance icons of database in replicator is unpredictable, there are constantly the databases, that I do not need for replicate, sometimes it is impossible to remove them, and restore the deleted icons than to re-creating a replica fails. Using replicator uncomfortable ... Usually people start replication on RightClick on the icon of the database. I do not know a single person who used it.
I propose to add icons database to Replicator, sorting them into folders, delete, manually! If want to replicate, I would have went into the Replicator, tick database and replicated them - it would be very convenient!

I propose to display a list of elements of the container "Forms", "Views" and so on, with a SingleClick, rather than with a Double, as now. DoubleClick must display the elements on the right and to open the list of containers in the view, as it did in previous versions of Domino Designer.
 
EDITED: Mean clicking on the label "Forms", etc... but not on "+".

Idea:
 In order to save some space on the workspace for more, but more readable icons, I suggest to place the Application Icon as a background for the Application tile. The font color for DBTitle and Servername thus should be adjustable, e.g. in the ICON-Properties. Furthermore, for better results, we should be able to import any type of picture (OK, JPG) in a certain size into the Application ICon. The cool guy of lotus would suggest of course a font color extremely readable based on the image color family.

To unify the use of code and design elements (Subform) is sometimes useful to know we are in dialogue or not. Example: Subform used as embedded (checking for filling in the fields needed on QuerySave) and as a dialogue (on QueryClose).
I propose to add a property IsDialog as Boolean to NotesUIDocument class.

  If you have the Notes-only client installed and you're working in a database (your inbox or any app) and you choose "View Agents", the Notes client opens an Agent list. From there, you can run, enable/disable agents easily.... and QUICKLY.
 
  If you have Notes/Designer/Admin 8.5+ installed, and you're working in a database (your inbox or any app) and you choose "View Agents", it cranks up DDE. Working on a remote server, DDE can take a signifcant amount of time to open and make the agent list available.
 
  That's what "View > Design" is for.
 
  I've always used "View > Agents" to quickly open & run/enable/disable agents.

When the user rights click on a view and there are some documents selected show customized menus (defined in for example the notes.ini). For example
MenusForViewContext=Process selected emails in special mode=@formula(....);Delete selected emails=@DeleteDocument ...
MenusForFormContext=Attach file here;@command([File....
 
By this way programmers will have more programmatic access to these menus... in outlook you can customize these menus (CommandBars).

Idea:
In the ACL you should be able to specify:
+ Disable print
+ Disable copy content of DB
+ Disable export menu
+ Disable drag content from Notes
And a built in behaviour for the print-screen should be provided to also disable it... anyway the user can take a photo of the screen but at least you reduce the possibilities.

It would be great if you could select the cells and set this property on all the cells in one click. Just like you can do when setting the cell-color or the cell image source.
Now you have to set each cell individually, which is quite al lot of clicking.
When you select more cells the property gets set on the last selected cell.

In Recent the ideas are sorted by date where the ideas are created.
In Popular they are sorted by votes, so are ideas from 2007 are on the top of the view.

The Sorting would be better when ideajam would use a calculated ranking.
For example, use the votes and substract the age in days the idea is.

Idea:
When trying to embed a view, the dialog uses the user's list of bookmarks. This is an issue when the user does not have a bookmark to the desired database.
 
Furthermore, when the developer has a bookmark for both a production and development version of the db, there is no way to differentiate them.
 
I propose to stop using the bookmark list and allow the user to browse to the required db, then pick the view

With RAM being limited to 4GB on 32 bit OSes it is only a matter of time before:
  1. Companies start to move to 64 bit desktop OSes
  2. Windows 7 is mainstream
For these very reasons we need Win7 and 64 bit support in the connectors.

It would show that the product can be more the Lotus oriented.

"Block Mail from Sender" blocks any addresses partially matching a blocked email address. This issue has been reported to Quality Engineering as SPR# DADS6RKH97. The issue is related to the usage of the @Contains function to perform the check.
