Clean Sweep Matter WIC team in Pamplona
2008-05-10 20:44
The first day of the international racing weekend in San Antonio, Pamplona was a clean sweep for the MATTER World Inlinecenter team. DJ Nation, Andres Munoz and Kalon Dobbin are in Pamplona to defend the colors of MATTER. And the first day just couldn´t have been better. It all started with the 300m, where Andres Munoz showed his speed and was the only one to stay under the 25 seconds. Kalon Dobbin completed the succes finishing 3rd. Then on the 1000m again, Kalon and Andres taught the rest of the field what real speed is. Kalon finished 1st in an incredibly fast time of 1min28sec, Andres was right behind him on the 2nd spot. 3rd finished Powerslide affiliated french skater Julien Sourrisseau. After all these sprint events it was time for the long distance specialists, 10k points race. This time it was DJ NAtion who completed the succes for te MATTER team by winning wiht 17 points, just one point in front of the strong Spaniard Patxi Peula and once again Julien Sourrisseau. If you now wonder, why you do not hear anything of Peter Michael. This is because he joined the Powerslide crew to give a clinic at an event in Germany´s Juterborg....
Big and little

The Trillium 10k took place earlier today under sunny skies in Mount Forest, Ontario.
About 30-skaters took to the start line. We left the rough roads of Mount Forest through the down-town and onto the smooth coutry-side roads.
Morgan Williams took the early lead in the race. Jesse Pauley, Jade Pauley, and Morgan Williams were in a small break early on in the race, but Scott Pauley, Leonardo Frusteri, and I caught the early break when about 2km’s into the race, Jesse Pauley took a wrong turn. The pack was ‘calm’ at the time, and Jesse was able to re-join the lead group. Soon after, I launched a small attack while Leonardo Frusteri was leading. Frusteri chased into the headwind, but my lead opened up into a sizeable one.
I kept a high pace, mantaining the best technique that I could- landing on an outside edge, double pushing, keeping my knees and weight forward, and driving my knees forward during the recovery phase.
I made it to the turnaround point well into the lead and I made my way back to town with a nice tailwind, being encouraged by the cheers of the skaters and runners as we crossed paths going in the opposite direction.
Once I arrived in town, the roadmarshal on the bike didn’t tell me where to turn, so I ended up zooming past the turn at full speed. I had to turn back around and get back on course. Just as I made it back onto the course, Jesse Pauley was bearing down on me.
With 1km to go and a in 30-meter lead, it was very difficult for me to get back up to speed on the very rough roads. I looked back and saw Jesse chasing me, hunting me down, but I was able to fend him off for the win.
Morgan Williams beat out Herb Gayle and Jade Pauley for 3rd.
Sarah Hopkins was the top female finisher, skating a good part of the race on her own.

MATTER WIC continues to win in Pamplona
2008-05-11 12:40
Yesterday in the late afternoon racing in Pamplona continued. And the winning streak of the MATTER WIC worldteam continued. On the 3000m race it was Kalon Dobbin who claimed the victory, just in fron of the strong Dutchman Sjoerd Huisman and Andres Munoz. DJ Nationwas right behind them claiming the 4th position. After this it was time for the 15k combination race. And again the Powerslide family claimed the complete podium. Andres won, just in front of DJ and 3rd came in Powerslide Phuzion skater Nicolas Zamudio. Interesting about this race, was that it was so fast that they beat the existing World Record of Diego Rosero. As it was Huisman who crossed the finishline as 1st, his 22min56sec will go into the books as new record. Huisman was racing on the POWERSLIDE standard XXX boots, with XXX 4x110 frames and Matter yellow wheels.

Andres Munoz confirms MATTER WIC supremacy
2008-05-11 19:58
It´s done, MATTER came, saw and won! Andres Munoz just both the 500m, with Kalon Dobbin finishing 2nd, and the 10km elimination race. This means that the Matter World Inlinecenter team has won all races at the San Antonio international racing weekend.
San Antonio 500m: 1. Andres Munoz 2. Kalon Dobbin 3. Michel Mulder
In his entry Saturday…, Aaron Arndt writes about an ‘Uphill 4km race today‘.
In Weinfelden Hillclimb, Bill Begg reports on the event, saying ‘Fresh off the Plane yesterday, the Ecuador skater Jorge Balonas showed a high level of Fitness & a great degree of Determination, to chew up leader Rueben Martinez, on the climb up the last steep hill, a 15% climb of 400 meters. In 3rd place was Christian Diaz Grandidos Colombia & 4th Alexanda Bastidas from Venezuela‘ and finishing by saying ‘As well as all the top South American skaters present the Locals were treated to an array of overseas talent, with Australia, Canada & New Zealand also represented‘.
For a few reasons, I didn’t end up going to Montreal for the Festival Roller de Montreal.
A number of my friends from the Toronto area made their way to Montreal for the event. In her entry In Montreal, Candy Wong said ‘I am really looking forward to the race tomorrow. Hopefully I can reach my goal of 1:33. That is the magic number to convince me that I can race in wave B in Duluth based on some convoluted calculation‘.
Reports coming right now point to the following results with a winning time of 1:14;
Men 1- Olivier Jean
2- Mathieu Giroux
3- Adrian Loewen
4- Benoit Letourneau
5- Allain Legacy
Women
