YANN GUYADER WINS WORLD CUP IN SURSEE
2008-05-05 12:12

Yann Guyader just won the second race for the World Inline Cup, just in front of his Powerslide Alessi teammate Stefano Galliazzo. Not only did he win the stage, he also claimed the first position in the general ranking.
Yann and Steve were part of a strong four man breakaway, together with the strong Colombian Diego Rosero and the relatively unknown Christian Diaz Granados, also from Colombia. But Steve and Yann used very well the advantage of being two teammates and helped each other to the victory.
In the field sprint Fabio Francolini still made it to 8th position, and thus the success of the Powerslide Alessi team was perfect. Just behind Fabio the Matter/Inlinecenter train arrived as you can read in the report on this site.
The women of the Alessi Powerslide team were not so successful this race, but with Giovanna Turchiarelli on 8th position, Sandra Gomez 10th and Cinzia Ponzetti 11th, the teamperformance was still very strong. With this result Sandra moved to the 2nd position in the general ranking, and will thus once again be reaching for the rown of the World Inline Cup.

WIC Sursee: Inside view of Nicolas Zamudio (Powerslide Phuzion)
2008-05-05 17:07
The second race of the World Inline Cup took place in Sursee /Switzerland. The Powerslide Phuzion team had to start without the team leader Pascal Briand who was absent because of a family affair. The race started at 17:00 and the weather conditions were quite perfect. The course was flat in general with little uphills and some fast downhills. The first breakaways were catched very easy by the peleton, but after approx. 15k there was a breakaway started by Yann Guyader (Powerslide Alessi) and 7 other skaters. Unfortunately there was no one of the Powerslide PHUZION Team in a good position to follow them and we missed it.
After the breakaway the pack had a good speed but was not able to catch the leading group until the finish line. About 8k to the finish everybody was trying to get a good position for the final sprint and the fighting begun. The Powerslide Phuzion team had a nice position as the second team until 800m to go. Felix and me controlled the the pack till 300m to the finish. Than the teams from Matter and Rollerblade attacked. It was hard now to keep the good position because of so many fighting during the final meters to the finish.

The rankings of the team are still not that good but we are on a good way because the team works better and better together from race to race. We are looking forward to the next races in full team strength!

PS PHUZION Ranking:

19. Nicolas Zamudio
31. Kwinten Tas
34. Pascal Ramali
41. Felix Rijhnen

GERMAN BLADE CHALLENGE Regensburg (inside View from Nicolas Zamudio (Powerslide Phuzion)
2008-05-05 17:32
After the WIC in Sursee on saturday the Powerslide Phuzion team went to the GBC race in Regensburg / Germany. The team arrived at their hotel at 2:00 in the night and had just a few hours of sleep before the halfmarathon race started at 8:00 a.m. Sunday morning. The race was fast and the Powerslide Phuzion team started or was involved in many breakaways, but without success. About 6k to go the final breakaway started with 2x Stadler, 2x X-Tech, Ferre Spuyt (Orana), the german oldie Thilo Bock (Experts) and Powerslide Phuzion skater Felix Rijhnen. The group worked good enough together to come with 45 sec in front of the pack to the final 1000m. About 500m before the finish Ferre Spruyt started the sprint and was pased by Felix 200m to go. No one was able to conter his strong sprint again and Felix took his first GBC victory in 2008 in front of Mauro Casu and Aaron Arndt (both X-Tech). The sprint of the main pack was won by Nicolas Zamudio and Martin Matyk. Pascal Ramali completed the good results of the team with a 12. place.

1. Felix Rijhnen (Powerslide PHUZION)
2. Mauro Casu (Subaru X-Tech)
3. Aaron Arndt (Subaru X-Tech)

8. Nicolas Zamudio (Powerslide PHUZION)
9. Martin Matyk (Powerslide PHUZION)
12. Pascal Ramali (Powerslide PHUZION)

The Icon Frame and I...A lovely partnership
2008-05-07 11:58
I got them like a month ago and since then I won all the competitions I've raced. After winning the pre-mundial race in Gijon "Spain", and the International Kriterium of Gross-Gerau "Germany" I managed to gain my 5th WIC victory under the color of Powerslide last Saturday in Sursee. Thanks to that new rocket frame I feel perfect. I know you would tell me: What really makes the difference between the new Icon frame from Powerslide and any other frame? I would tell you everything. Indeed the frame has a completly brand new shape, machined out of one piece of aluminum the frame is stiff and it gives you an higher response. The 100mm wheel in second allows the frame to be a lot lower than any other 110 frame on the market, what makes you being really confortable while skating. forget all the shin problem you maybe had before. The lenght of 12'8" is great, cause you still have the roll of the 110 wheels without the inconvenience of the 4*110 that are sometimes for people like me with small feet a bit too long.
So believe me you really do need that brand new frame. the Serial winner frame.
By the way for those who do not like the Hi-Lo frames - the Icon frame will be available in 4x110mm also!

Get ready, production of the brand new Icon frames will start now!

Win Susan
2008-05-08 06:31 peterdoucet

Andrew Love’s Coffee, Sky, & Prayer brought Fat Cyclist back to my attention.

Elden Nelson (aka Fatty) is currently writing about and sharing some of the most difficult times someone could go though; he is supporting his wife Susan’s quest to defeat cancer.

I have many SSW entries in draft form waiting to be published. I’ll wait until tomorrow (Thursday) afternoon to put them up. I want to keep this entry at the top of my page for a little bit before it gets burried under skating news.

For me for tonight, skating news is seemingly unimportant after reading through Fat Cyclist’s recent entries. Skating stuff is the reason this site exists and I’ll get back to it.

But for tonight and a part of tomorrow, the silence is my prayer for Susan and her loved ones.

Recent entries such as Apologies, Thanks, Lance, Crying is for Climbing, Has It Been Only One Day?, and “Like Dandelion Seeds” are filled with incredibly deep words and provide detailed and emotional accounts.

Some of his writings (sorry for taking them out of context) include…

Susan doesn’t have just one tumor in her brain, or a few. “There are too many to count,” the Doctor said. “They’re scattered through your brain like dandelion seeds.”

The only treatment option we have open to us now, the oncologist said, is radiation therapy. And after that’s done, Susan will be better for a few months, but then the tumors will come back, and the brain can’t take another dose of radiation like that. So, absent a miracle, Susan only has months to live

I cried a lot on the way back home, though, and Susan and I talked about the things we needed to. I’m not going into it here because living through that conversation one time today was all I’m up to. Those of you who have had this kind of talk know what I mean.

The boys — ages 12 and 14 — understand things better, and they — as am I — are going to be messed up for a while to come.

Is it OK for me to pray for a miracle?” the 12-year-old asked.

“For sure,” I said. “That’s what I’m doing.”

Compared to this, the conversation Susan and I had earlier in the day was a walk in the park

The intensity of the ride had fully occupied my mind. For the first time since Susan and I had been to see the oncologist and learned we were out of options, I felt…not happy, but at least not all knotted up. Clear.

Right now, clear is good enough

She apologizes for having to leave me. This is a much harder apology to hear, because often I do feel like I ought to be getting an apology for having my wife taken from me. I mean, how many really good marriages are out there in the world? Shouldn’t someone apologize for splitting us up?‘.

San Francisco Inline Marathon; Top Honours
2008-05-09 01:46 peterdoucet

Team Bont N.A./Rudy Project’s Bobby Piedra put up a nice report/ tribute to last weekend’s San Francisco Inline Marathon- see SFIM Gets Top Honors. I’ll condense some of what he wrote; ‘You guys have taken race organization and pre-event preparation to a new level. Last minute registration and check-in was a breeze, everything was provided for… The course was smooth and clean… everyone seemed to enjoy the fast course and the opportunity to do their best… The local media was present as well as many photographers and spectators, everyone cheering and encouraging the skaters on their way… After the race, skaters were treated like royalty and provided with a catered lunch… If you missed it this year, put it on your calendar for next year…‘.

…WIC confirmed once again its vocation as marathon and long distance circuits on roller skates which have a great impact on a world-wide level and, because of that, I think it is important to seize the opportunity of this first event in order to introduce to all of you the renewed synergy between FIRS and IGUANA for WIC organization and promotion.

Partnership between FIRS and IGUANA is included in the promotional project of roller skating on a worldwide scale… IGUANA from its side, will support promotion of roller sports within the Olympic Project….

Referring to the Olympic Project, I will seize the opportunity to inform you that also this year we will be at Sport Accord event. SportAccord, the annual international sports convention, brings representatives from the 100 International Sports Federations affiliated to GAISF (General Association of International Sports Federations), ASOIF (Association of Summer Olympic International Federations) and AIOWF (Association of the International Olympic Winter Sports Federations), as well as the International Olympic Committee Executive Board, together with sponsors, bidding and host cities, architects, sports lawyers, broadcasters, games organising committees, rights holders and other specialists to discuss the key issues facing the sports industry. In addition to the numerous and important meetings, about which I will have the chance to talk when I will come back, I am glad to inform you that roller skating will be in Athens with a huge promotional campaign: for example, IOC members will see as the first thing coming off the plane, FIRS logo and roller skating images in lighted posters in the airport

Powerslide family results (within top 30):
1. YANN GUYADER, New Leader in WIC Ranking!!!!!

Below are parts of an editorial written by FIRS’ President Sabatino Aracu- you can read the editorial in its entirety here.

Dear Friends of rollersports
