Hello, my friends! Two months ago my girlfriend and I decided to visit the UK in February. As you know this country has a visa regime. So we had to apply for it. We've done it and this week we've got the message:
That's awesome! So in this article I'm going to tell you how you can get the British Visa. It's said to be a very difficult process, but believe me it's not at all. It just takes a little time and money. I'll tell you about all the requirements for it and stop on the most important moments. When we was applying we had some questions and couldn't find the answers in the Internet. So I'll answer them here and I hope it will be useful for you when you make up your mind to go to the United Kingdom. Here we go!
There are many types of visa. If you're going to the UK as a tourist, your type is General Visitor. So I'll tell you about getting the visa exactly of this type. I don't know about the rest, but I think it's not difficult to get them too.
Ok, if you want to get Visa-General Visitor, you have to submit all the necessary documents to the British Visa Application Center of your city. I live in Moscow and the center is located to Bolshoy Savvinskiy Pereulok 12, Building 18, 119435.
The documents you have to submit:
1) Application for United Kingdom Entry Clearance.
2) The appointment with your Unique Appointment Reference Number.
3) A letter from your employer on company headed paper – detailing your salary.
4) A letter with your bank statements.
5) Your current travel passport.
6) One passport sized colour photograph.
7) Hotel booking confirmation.
8) Evidence of your marital status (ONLY IF YOUR'RE MARRIED).
1. Application for United Kingdom Entry Clearance.
This is the application which you have to fill in on the website www.visa4uk.fco.gov.uk It's a pretty long one, so you should have enough time.
2. The appointment with your Unique Appointment Reference Number.
After you're done with your application you'll have to choose date of your visiting The Application Center. I advise you to choose a day in two or three weeks to prepare all the necessary documents in time and not to be in a hurry. When you choose the day you'll get your Unique Appointment Reference Number. So you have to just print this document.
3. A letter from your employer on company headed paper – detailing your salary.
This is the Evidence of your current employment or studies. Just ask you employer to print the paper like that. As a rule they know what it is and it's not gonna be a problem.
If you're a student you should submit a letter from your University.
4. A letter with your bank statements.
Just go to a bank and ask them to print out the statements of your account balance.
5. Your current travel passport.
So it goes without saying that you have to have passport like that.
6. One passport sized colour photograph.
There are some rules about this photograph. You can see them here - http://www.ukba.homeoffice.gov.uk/sitecontent/applicationforms/visa-photo-guidance.pdf
7. Hotel booking confirmation.
When you book your hotel you can print the confirmation about it. We booked our hotel on this website — www.booking.com
8. Evidence of your marital status.
This could include a marriage certificate, a civil partnership certificate, a divorce certificate or a death certificate. if you're not married and never been married, just forget about this point.
So, these are the documents you have to submit. And don't forget to translate your letters from job and bank in English!
Now I'm going to answer the questions which worried us a lot when we were applying:
Do I have to submit my Russian passport?
No.
How much money should I have on my bank account?
Many people told us that we have to have more than one thousand dollars. To tell you the truth I had much less and got visa without any problems. Just keep in mind that you have to have 100 $ per a day of visiting the country. I don't know where this amount came from, but we thought about it when we were applying.
When I should go to a bank for the letter?
Once again, I heard that I should go to a bank no earlier than 5 days before the date of my appointment. I did it before two weeks and got the visa without problems.
That's it, guys. I hope this information will help you when you decide to go to the UK. And hopefully we'll enjoy our trip to London in February.
Keep learning English and take care!
