Система компьютерной алгебры GAP: XVIII LATIN AMERICAN ALGEBRA COLLOQUIUM

XVIII LATIN AMERICAN ALGEBRA COLLOQUIUM

FIRST ANNOUNCEMENT

August 3rd to August 8th, 2009
Hotel Fonte Colina Verde, Sao Pedro, SP, Brazil

The series of Latin American Algebra Colloquia started in 1980 and
until 1994 it was mainly a local event that gathered mathematicians
from Argentina and Chile and, occasionally, a few invited speakers
from other countries. After a short interruption, these meetings were
reinitiated in 2001, with a wider scope, involving mathematicians from
most Latin American countries and many invited speakers from outside
the region.

SCIENTIFIC PROGRAMME

During the meeting, several parallel activities will be developed,
covering all areas of Algebra and its applications. The following are
some of these activities:

- Plenary talks by invited speakers.
- Following the scheme of the previous meeting, also plenary talks on
specific areas of Algebra will be given.
- Contributed talks by registered participants.
- Mini-courses and talks directed primarily for students.

The activities will be organized in sessions, which we describe below,
together with the names of the corresponding organizers.

- Number Theory, Algebraic Geometry and Commutative Algebra (Israel
Vaisencher, Eduardo Esteves)
- Group Theory (Said Sidki, Juan Tirao)
- Ring Theory (Miguel Ferrero, Antonio Giambruno)
- Representation of Algebras (Flavio Coelho, Maria Ines Platzeck)
- Homological Methods in Algebra (Eduardo Marcos, Maria Julia Redondo)
- Hopf algebras (Sonia Natale, Vitor Ferreira)
- Non-Associative Algebra (Ivan P. Shestakov)
- Lie Theory and Applications in Mathematical Physics (Vyacheslav
Futorny, Vera Serganova)
- Finite Fields, Coding Theory and Cryptography (Daniel Panario,
Arnaldo Garcia)

DATES

The meeting will be held on the week from August 3rd to August 8th. It
follows the Brazilian Mathematical Colloquium, which will be held from
July 27th to 31st, 2009. It is hoped that many participants will
choose to attend this Colloquium as well, which will be held at IMPA,
Rio de Janeiro.

The meeting will be held in the State of Sao Paulo, at the Hotel Fonte
Colina Verde Hotel in the city of Sao Pedro.

Further information on registration, accommodation, traveling,
submission of abstracts, etc will be available at the conference web
page, presently under construction:
