Система компьютерной алгебры GAP: Workshop 'Representations and Asymptotic Group Theory'



Subject: Workshop "Representations and Asymptotic Group Theory" in
April 2009

Dear All,

We are happy to announce a workshop on "Representations and Asymptotic
Group Theory", to be held on 6-7 April 2009 at the University of
Southampton. Please see

The workshop is part of the South England Profinite Groups Meetings, see

http://www.ma.rhul.ac.uk/profinite_groups/meetings.html.

Brief Description: The workshop will bring together people with
interests in asymptotic and arithmetic aspects of the representation
theory of infinite groups or families of finite groups. A guiding
theme will be representation growth, e.g. in arithmetic and p-adic Lie
groups. Related topics include: representations of finite reductive
groups, smooth representations of locally-compact p-adic Lie groups in
the context of the Langlands conjectures and conjugacy classes in
finite p-groups.

The speakers are: N. Avni (Harvard University), L. Bartholdi
(Universita:t Go:ttingen), S. Goodwin (University of Birmingham), M.
Liebeck -TBC- (Imperial College London), A. Lubotzky -TBC- (Hebrew
University of Jerusalem), U. Onn (Ben Gurion University), A.
Stasinski(University of Southampton), S. Stevens (University of East
Anglia). They are encouraged to present key methods and open problems
in order to initiate discussions amongst the participants. There will
be ample opportunities for informal interactions.

Registration: Please notice that the deadline for registration is 6
March 2009. We will appreciate early registration. Please register
using the web form, following the corresponding link from the workshop
web page.

Financial Support: We have limited funding to cover local and travel
expenses. Application for support can be made at the time of
registration.
