K-1 Story: Not many recent posts about interviews in Paris, so let me add my
own :)
Had the medical Wednesday at dr Slattery. The examination lasted exactly 3 minutes
(...) then I was sent to the end of the street (3 minutes walk) to give my blood
and to another place (7 minutes walk) for the xray. Doctor's secretary even
provided a map ! All was over by 11 but Ihad to go back and pick the results
at 3pm, looks like a standart procedure there (hint : there's a movie theater
not far, in Rue Pasquier).
My interview letter stated to be there at 9am sharp. I got there by 7.50, and
there were already a couple of people waiting. The guards ran through the line
by 8.25 asking whether we had paid the correct fee at the post office yet, then
let us through the gate one by one at 8.30. Empty pockets, leave mobile phones
with the guards, have belongings searched, run through metal detector. Then
the guard pointed me to the correct door (2 of them, one for immigrant visas
and other for non- immigrant, K1 being immigrant). Waited until 9 in a nice
hall, then we were allowed to show our passports to marines who let us through
further into the building. There were about a dozen people waiting with me,
several couples though Idon't know if they were here for I130. We first all
gave our appointment letters, then were
called one by one to give all the documents. I was given back the proof of relationship
things Todd has sent with the I129F. The woman only kept one tax sheet and one
pay stub, but she requested namely the letter from the employer and the bank
statement.
Then Iwas sent back to sit and wait. Another woman was there for the fiance
visa, she had been sent back at the POE on her last entry because she had resumes
with her and the INS officer said it proved immigration intent. The man interviewing
her complained about INS and their regulations, and didn't make a problem to
give her the visa. I was called to a window by 10.55 and interviwed by a woman
right there, with the other people waiting just a meter behind me. So much for
privacy. She swore me in and asked a lot of questions like when and how did
we met, how long until we met in person, how many times Iwent there and how
long each time, whether he came in France, what's his job, what's mine, what
are his parents jobs, any sisters and brothers, what's his phone number, what's
mine. All that while looking through the documents. She asked to see my relationship
stuff - pictures, phone bills and specifically requested letters. She spent
a few minutes trying to decipher Todd's handwritting. grin Then she put my
passport in front of me and Ithought that's it,I don't have the visa, as Iknew
she was supposed to keep the passport as Ihad seen it for other people. Then
she said all was in order and I was granted the visa ! She realised she needed
the passport, took it back and told me to come pick it up at 4pm. I was out
of the place by 11.
I came back at 3.30, as did most poeople from the morning, but nothing happened
until 4pm exactly. They called my name, I was given the brown envelope and my
passport, the woman told me very roughly about AOS, and she said I couldn't
get out of the USA until I had the green card which would take 2 years. I asked
why, can't I get advance parole ; she seemed mildly surprised I knew about that,
and stated that if I apply for it I must get it in written as a verbal aggreement
from INS is not enough (Uh ?.. ) I wonder what people who are told that and
don't know about AP think.
So that was it. 7 Months of waiting and a 5 minutes interview later, I have
a nice visa in my passport. Todd is flying to France in 2 weeks, we'll fly back
to Cleveland on February 1st, and marry Feb 20th :)
Good luck to all the couples still waiting for the interview, approval or whatever.
