5900 Another spurious signal noted tonight on Oct 15th,
1900-2200 UT in Ge, Fr, En:
R Bulgaria, Plovdiv, 500 kW, 295deg, nominal 5900 kHz, but spurious on
5876-5884 and 5914-5924 kHz. Spikes of spur signals on 5882 and 5920 kHz.

The spurs from REE Cariari 17850, Monday Oct 15 at 1953 were
found on 18104.9 and 17595.1. This time the higher one was slightly stronger,
and each had only one carrier instead of two; 17595 direct from Spain is
already off by then on weekdays. Our first report of 18105 was on Sept 26 from
David Ross, Ont., so this has been going on for at least three weeks. When will
REE notice and/or do something about them? It may take continued pressure from
ham intruder watchers, even tho REE is also QRMing itself. Duh! (Glenn Hauser, OK, USA - dxldyg 16/10/2007)

Россия
15660 Moscow tx for VoRussia's Vietnamese service at 1200-1300 UT produces some intermodulation again today Oct 15th.

Three peak spurs again on 15036 + 15045; and single spur on upper side 16276-77.
(W. Bueschel, Germany - harmonics 15/10/2007)

desde Valencia a las 13:04 el servicio en ruso de La Voz de Rusia en 15660 llega muy bien, acabo de escuchar una ID, "..Radio Rossii..", SINPO 44343.
(J. M. Romero, Burjasot, Spain - dxldyg 15/10/2007)

7050 still a spur at 1700-1800 UT Oct 15. Intermodulation of VoRussia Finnish 7340 and 7195 French services at Lesnoj Moscow site. S=5
signal. (W. Bueschel, Germany - harmonics 15/10/2007)

When I started monitoring at 1319 Oct 15, the huge dirty spur blob
from VOR today was centered on 15750, main victims this time being Sweden 15735
and Israel 15760, as it extended at least from 15730 to 15765. Once again this
is the Hindi service supposed to be on 15550, where there was nothing audible,
and // 15605 before 1400. Recheck at 1405, the splatter ranged at least from
15700 to 15765; 1447 recheck, still going.

Elsewhere: a separate problem on 15510, which is VOR via Samara to Afghanistan:
Oct 15 at 1324 there was buzz in the background on this transmitter; much
weaker than 15750, and 15510 was still intelligible if one understood Pashto or
Dari (Glenn Hauser, OK, USA - dxldyg 16/10/2007)

Nominal 7300 just signed on for VOR in Portuguese at 2300, and it again
shows the reported problem. The situation is that the transmitter puts
out a signal which widely and rapidly fluctuates around 7300.9 kHz. This
signal gets more or less properly modulated, resulting in an appearance
on a standard envelope-detection radio that is reminiscent to flutter
fading. At 2305 a faint carrier on 7300 appeared, apparently generated
by the faulty exciter of this transmitter as well, now the signal got
the appearance of a station targeted by a bubble jammer.

Serpukhov is of course an old fake site. I thought they had been finally
eliminated now, replaced by "MSK" to summarize Lesnoy, Taldom and
Kurovskaya (although they are so widely separated from each other that
these are distinctively different sites), but not in all cases it now
turns out. Be that as it may, it should be either one of these three
transmitter plants which puts out this faulty signal (perhaps it would
be a bit unfair to conclude from the start that it is again Lesnoy).
HFCC shows 500 kW, if so it would be either a pair of 250 kW
transmitters or one of the 1000 kW units at Taldom.

7125 is again on air tonight as scheduled, prior to 2300 sign on running
1040 Hz tones (actually 1039.3 ... 1039.8 Hz), whatever this peculiar
pitch may indicate. (Kai Ludwig, Germany - dxldyg 19/10/2007)

Канада
Radio Canada Internal, 6100, Oct 14 from before 0200 until
0204 in Chinese was in collision with R. Republica and jamming --- see CUBA
[non], which just changed from 6155. Then RCI switched to 6075 for Spanish from
0205, with ``Reflejo Boreal`` show opening with birdsong, then news. 6075 had
CCI from DW which used to beam to NAm on 6075, but now back toward Europe from
Rampisham and/or Sines, per August schedule revision:
GERMAN 6075 0200-0359 500 RAMPISHAM 105 EUR
GERMAN 6075 0200-0400 250 SINES 040 EUR

If you insist on shifting all your programming 5 minutes late for no good
reason, you are bound to run into such conflicts with other stations who manage
their frequencies to change at hourtop, more or less. But then Radio Republica
is a veiled station, not appearing in HFCC, so one can pretend it`s not there

Firedrake, weak on 9850 with some other music mixing, Oct 15 at 2005.
Per Aoki, this is against VOA Chinese via Tinian. Say, how come CRI gets to
broadcast to the USA in English unimpeded via several non-Communist and one
Communist relay site, and we can`t get a word in edgewise to China without
their trying to block it, and rather successfully? The concept of fair play is
unknown to the ChiCom in this and countless other fields (Glenn Hauser, OK, USA - dxldyg 16/10/2007)

Firedrake music jamming with good signal at 1253 Oct 16 on 10300,
against Sound of Hope, of which nothing was audible underneath (Glenn Hauser, OK, USA - dxldyg 18/10/2007)

6100, Firedrake, 1019-1032, Oct 19, fair. First time I have
noticed them here. Has Sound of Hope come this low or is it against
someone else? (Ron Howard, Canada - dxldyg 19/10/2007)

Прочее
today 15.10.07 I was checking the jamming on the 41 MB , preciously on 7175kHz I
noticed that it started around 3.59 UTC but around 4.12 UTC it moved to another 2 freq.
7210 kHz and 7215kHz .
the jammer went back again to 7175 around 4.15 UTC...in the meantime I checked 7210/
7215 and I can confirm hearing Eritrea ( program 2 ) on both channels as Eri. Program one
is booming in on 7100 .

around 4.23 UTC 7215 went silent...so I chased the jammer to 7175 and it was there plus
being on 7180 as well ......sounds like they started chasing eachothers.
4.27 UTC as I'm writing this...there are 4 freq. being jammed , 7175/7180/7210 and
7215. underneath 7215 I still could hear Prog. 2 of Eritrea , the splatter of DW in Arabic on
7170 is realling killing 7175.

4.29 UTC Program 2 went back to 7175.....and the jammer stoped for a while but now it's
back in a minute...the funny thing is around 4.30 UTC they decided to jam 7170 - DW in
arabic as well. bot I noticed on 6165 a very strong carrier with a few words in horn of
africa language with the word Deomcratic ..that lasted for like 2 Min and then gone again
could be : 0400 0500 CLA V.o.Peace and Democracy TIG ERI 9560/7165
according to EIBI.

4.40 UTC ERI program 2 on 7175 - back to base - with the jammer on.....and suddenly all
off that freq...moving to a new one 7160 - that's a new freq for jamming -

4.45 UTC ERI moved again 7160, butthe jammers are on 7210/7215 , 7,47 UTC the
jammers followed to 7160 , and suddenly all moved to 7215 again.

4.52 ERI back to 7175 , and the jammer followed in a minute leaving 7215.

I think I better stop chasing ERI Prog. 2 and the jammer/s and the go to bed as my ears
started crying for some peace!

UNIDENITFIED. 15600, tone tests of many different pitches from just above
subaudible, to just below audio pass limit of my receiver/ears, like a hearing
test, off abruptly at 1328* Was only fair strength. In Aoki, the only broadcast
scheduled at this time is unlikely for this:
15600 CHINA RADIO INTER. 1230-1327 1234567 Malaysian 100 175 Kunming CHN 10250E
2510N CRI a07 (Glenn Hauser, OK, USA - dxldyg 16/10/2007)

UNIDENTIFIED. 15810, continuous 1 kHz tone test Oct 15 at 1406. Only station
scheduled at any time on 15810 is R. Cairo in Indonesian at 1230-1400, so
perhaps the same source for some reason following that broadcast (Glenn Hauser,

This afternoon several evidently Asian signals but many were missed as SeaTTY refused to decode on
all occasions, see previous mail! DSC of course don't work with weak signals even if it seems to be
better at correctly decoding strong signals.

At my location the static level can be quite cumbersome.
This is caused by thunderstorms over the Mediterranean, some 2000 km away.
Thunderstorm activity is still fierce and often lasts untill December.
January trough March the level is low.

This summer I have silenced my 5 year old PC by installing a fan-less video card and it does not disturb aural reception any longer. This is the reason I have started using

ARGO for visual reception on a AR7030, whilst using a SPM-30 for aural reception. This has proved to be quite benificial. Using ARGO it is much easier to adjust my

phasing system to null the static and this has opened up an otherwise useless band. Thus instead of waiting for the static to calm down, I am now able to do something

about it.

Last night conditions were very good with excellent propagation from northern Scandinavia.
I logged three new ones. The first one was ODD-365, Harstad/Odden, NOR, 1999 km. After a unsuccesfull search for some more artic Norwegians I stumbled across

FS-396, Harstad/Fjellstad, NOR, 2029 km, serving the same airport. Propagation must have been quite directional. Stations fron Scandinavia were roaring in and I had the

greatest difficulty logging NSV-371, Svea, Svalbard, 2987 km under BRS-371 and NQ-371. I could never get the full call, but heard several times NV and VS, so it really was

Svalbard.
At closing time a couple of Canadians came booming in at 30 dB plus levels over my noise floor. UX-378, Hall Beach, CAN NU, 4623 km was heard for the first time. This

one is located at N 68 degrees, so propagation was definately favouring the north.

11175.0 was active at 0319z with ANDREWS bcsting a 21-character
EAM (ZJCGJV).

11175.0 was active at 1430z with PUERTO RICO (weak/mostly
unreadable) moving "station on frequency" to 11220.0.

11220.0 was active at 1431z with PUERTO RICO (weak/barely
readable) calling and working "station on frequency" (mostly unheard
here) for a phone patch to a common DSN 271 number. Aircraft spelled
his callsign as RED FISH. RED FISH worked FARM BOY (GEP coodinator)
to attempt to set up oderwire comms RF 17 via station [GRADUATE maybe;
GEP alias]. Stations were weak to each other, and at 1441z MCCLELLAN
(weak but stronger than PUERTO RICO) popped up to attempt to finish
the patch. MCCLELLAN had to disrupt the session for higher precedence
traffic on the HFGCS (2 or more K2 28-character EAMs). At 1448z
MCCLELLAN and RED FISH reappeared on 11220.0 and completed the session and gone.

Very heavy static again, though not continuous like yesterday, and
eventually it mostly went away. The band was still noisy, but Pacific
conditions were pretty good today with signals heard from all over. The new
Taiwan beacon heard again, and a cycle time obtained. It had very short
fadeups, only for an ident or two at first, then would go away for several
minutes. Eventually it got a little better where it could be heard for
several minutes, though very weak. A few Polynesians also heard.
It never hurts to repeat it, and most folks know it by now, but if you do
aural listening for your beacons, then the narrow filter is your best
friend, whether an IF filter or audio filter. ("Narrow" is defined here as
less than 30 Hz bandwidth--the narrower the better, down to about 5 Hz
measured at the -3dB bandwidth points.) Most Pacific signals I listen for
can't be heard without the very narrow 6 Hz audio filter I use. Often there
is a strong carrier that completely removes any chance of hearing the weak
desired signal next to it--the 250Hz IF filter is far too wide. But using
the narrow audio filter allows hearing the weak signal, sometimes not even
hearing the strong carrier, if the offset is more than about 15 Hz and the
undesired signal isn't too strong. Other times the desired signal is in the
clear but too weak to be heard with the 250 Hz filter, but is plainly
audible with the very narrow filter. A practical example is the two signals
heard on 375 this morning, both heard on the upper offset. A medium level
carrier peaks at +1010. The Indonesian beacon was heard on +1018 today at
very poor/poor level; the Truk beacon was on +1029 today at poor level. With
the narrow audio filter switched out, nothing was heard except the carrier
and a beacon on the lower side of 376. Using the audio filter, OJ could be
heard along with the carrier; TKK was completely in the clear.

Michael your intercepts rank right up there with the UKE306/UKE307
intercepts that helped break the ID on this net. Good job.

200202 (aka ZZ172) is a C-17A transport (N172UK transferred Jun 01). I find
it interesting that the RAF would leave that ID in the plane as it is
identical to what the USAF aircraft use on the US Mil HF ALE nets.
Definitely NOT now part of the USAF HF ALE net, but an apparent expansion of
testing on this UK DHFCS TASCOMM ALE network or maybe even have it
operational now. Hard to say without further detailed analysis of the other
X.. ALE addresses. But this is an interesting step forward.

I have a few logs from my Home-QTH, Willebroek, Belgium.
The ALA1530 is hanging on the balcony. Not a good place for
reception. A lot of QRM and walls from the ohter houses. I hope that
I can move the antenna to the roof and that reception will improve.

Long log from me this time. Don't think i've heard this many new ones
since the first week i listened for NDB's. :)
My newly arrived Datong FL2 is great, too. I almost wonder how i
could've heard anything at all without it. :)
