If you're using Microsoft Office SharePoint Server (MOSS 2007) and Lotus Notes, you can't create a link from your client to a Lotus Notes database. This workaround can help. Get the steps to use the proper syntax to open a Notes database in your client using SharePoint.
Isn't it crazy how quickly a week can fly by. I had every intention of blogging at least a couple of times this week. Before I know it it's Friday and I've just not had the chance to.
The trouble at the moment is manifold. For starters Minnie isn't sleeping well. Karen has agreed to get up in the night on the proviso that I look after the kids in the morning so she can have an hour of so of a lie-in. This means I'm lucky to be in the office before 9am. So, when I do get to the office, I need to get stuck in to work. Writing a blog can take upwards of an hour, believe it or not.
The most common question I'm being asked by people (in the real world, that is) at the moment is:
How's work? Have you been affected by the credit crunch?
The short answer I usually give is "Yes and no".
The longer answer is that it seems to early to tell. While I feel some customers are holding back on things because of the general air of uncertainty, others are still spending and I'm as busy as always.
That said, as to what the future holds, I have no idea. That's always been the case though and six years of running Rockall has taught me not to worry about the quiet times - the work will come at some point. Fingers crossed. Anybody need a freelance developer?
As if having all my work commitments isn't enough, Karen and I decided to do something about the state of the dining room. To do this I had no option other than to rip out the whole floor. Although Karen would have been happy with a fresh layer of varnish I wanted to do it right and there's only so long wooden joists can last (106 years in this case).
This was the room little more than a week ago:
It's now at the point where it's ready for dad and I to lay the parquet, which should be happening this weekend. Needless to say this is taking up all my spare time at the moment.
Throw in to the mix the fact that I need to find time to spend with the family and I'm sure you can imagine I don't have much left over to blog with.
Sometimes, when I actually stop for long enough to think about everything I have on my plate I get a funny feeling. It's hard to describe but I imagine it must be what people who are about to have a panic attack must feel like just before they do.
I'm not one to say I thrive under pressure or anything but I do like having lots to keep me occupied. On the flip side I look forward to having a quiet spell where I can relax for a while.
This isn't me making excuses or apologising for the quietness. Codestore has had prolonged quiet spells over the years. They always pass though and I have plenty of stuff to talk about, just not the time to right now. I know I keep saying it, but, stick with me...
The disclaimer function introduced in Release 7 allows to add a disclaimer text to every outgoing message, configured by policies.
I'd like to see this enhanced:
- add Rich Text support including images
- read data from fields of a given Notes database (for example names.nsf)
Both features would allow to use this for dynamic signature creation across the whole company, making sure everyone's signature meets CI and compliancy requirements.
Looking at files using the Quickr Windows Explorer connector you have the option of Tiles, Icons, List, and Details. Where is the very useful Thumbnail view? This is particularly useful for finding image files.
Unless it is being significantly improved, please disable IMAP on the client.
(make an Debug_enable_imap_client notes.ini setting for those who care)
Explanation: some People go and download the Notes Client trial code, and in the setup dialog there are being asked about IMAP server. Since 99,9 % of Notes is being used against a Domino Server, they get a wrong idea about
the messaging capabilities of Notes.
If the IMAP support for the Notes Client is needed, it should be included as an eclipse plugin, but why bother to have the old R5 originated IMAP proxy template?
The existing Quickr calendar in Domino hasn't improved since version 5. Its cramped and hard to read. We need it to look more like the full size calendar in iNotes.
I have about 5 working sets defined so far, for groups of applications for different clients.
When I open an application from the Notes client by "Open in Designer", it would be great if the Designer client would switch to the relevant Working Set for that application.
I have just opened an application and it was tagged on at the bottom of an existing working set for another client - the rest of the applications in the current set displayed have no relevance .. so I then have to tick the correct Working Set, then tick again to close the wrong Working Set ... every time!
When I click the Working Set dropdown in the client, I want to be able to toggle on/off respective Working Sets easier.
At the moment, if I'm in one Working Set, to SWITCH to another Working Set, I have to click the dropdown, tick the new Working Set to show it. The dropdown then automatically hides, I have to choose it again, and then tick to hide the old Working Set I no longer want displayed.
I always SWITCH and never show multiple sets - the designer client becomes slower the more Working Sets I display.
So I would propose clicking to show the Working Set dropdown, then clicking to hide it myself, manually (so it doesn't auto-hide) or a "submit" to hide it.
Add the ability to lock the sidebar panels in their current position and expanded state. I'm FOREVER having to expand or collapse the things and resize them - all day, every day!
I often move calendar entries to a different day and always get the Reschedule Options dialog which I just click OK as only the date is changing and not the time.
Therefore, add a calendar preference to not display the Reschedule Options dialog box when dragging an existing calendar entry to another date.
Have you ever wondered who wrote the product documentation? Would you like to see their names on topics in the information center? This would help you see who in the community, contributing on developerWorks and the wikis, is also a writer of the product documentation.
Just curious to know how many of you guys have really used java applet view in your applications. At least me and most of the person I have ever met they never used java applet in their application because it's just kill the performance. Nobody like to sit and watch applet is loading message in your browser. So, I feel IBM should remove this option or provide work around for this.
I would love to see if they give a check box called " XML view" and when you check this option , it converts your view into xml/xslt based view. I know its my dream thought because in most of the application my clients ask me to do :( , but would say most of the LN professionals love to see..

Users who are not listed in the "Who can read this document" option in the Lotus Notes Document Properties --> Security panel, are still able to see calendar entries.
When using the Domino Administrator client, or Notes client, you receive the following error: "You need to enable Java applets (in File, Preferences, User Preferences...)". You check your User Preferences (File -> Preferences -> User Preferences -> Additional Options), and see that the "Enable Java applets" setting is enabled. This issue can occur if the JVM subdirectory of the Notes program directory (Example: C:\Program Files\Lotus\Notes\JVM) is missing, or corrupted, or if its contents are missi
After changing the default preferred site for your Lotus Notes calendar and scheduling profile, you want to change the preferred site again but you are limited to only the sites in your domain.
Placing some MIME messages in edit mode results in the TO and CC fields being cut off from view within the Notes client. Any custom header information will not be viewable as well.
Using Lotus Notes, you find that an attachment appears at the top of a document in the header section of a memo or other form. Specific to mail files, this issue may be more apparent when upgrading from a Notes 6.x or 7.x release to Notes 8.5, while your mail file is still based on the earlier release's design. The issue does not occur with all attachments. The placement of the attachment affects which Attachment Properties are available. The following are grayed out unexpectedly: Edit, Edit With, Save an
Notes 8.5 Interim Fix 85SHF26 for Mac OS X resolves 2 DBCS translation issues: Issue 1: The drop-down list and popup hints on the infobox display garbage characters instead of the expected DBCS characters. Issue 2: The Desktop Search configuration dialog will display garbage characters instead of the expected DBCS characters. This interim fix is only for Notes Standard client for Macintosh and only impacts DBCS installations of the Macintosh client. Please contact IBM Support if you are runnin
This article introduces a healthcare scenario based on an end-to-end XML architecture that allows information encoded in Health Level 7 (HL7) Clinical Document Architecture (CDA) XML documents to be stored in the same format in an IBM DB2 pureXML database, exchanged in the same format utilizing Web services, and visualized in the same format using IBM Lotus Sametime Connect Client. See how a prototype Sametime plug-in for instant messaging clients can be used to access and display XML patient data stored in a database. Learn, also, how to install and configure the plug-in, and re-configure the plug-in for another scenario.
You move a Notes database from a Windows platform to a Unix platform. After the database is moved, the bookmarks on the workspace in the Notes client do not work.
