South Korea: Partial, full or no lifting, all options on the table for Russia ban — IOC

All options are on the table regarding the possibility of Russian athletes marching behind their national flag at the Winter Olympic Games closing ceremony, IOC spokesperson Mark Adams said during a daily press briefing in Pyeongchang, Friday.
A partial, full or no lifting of the current ban remain the three possible outcomes of a decision to be made by the Implementation Committee chaired by the International Olympic Committee’s Nicole Hoevertsz, Adams said.
The committee chaired by Hoevertsz is expected to make a final decision on Saturday after delivering the result of the panel to the IOC board.

US star Olympic skiers Lindsey Vonn and Mikaela Shiffrin wrapped up their Pyeongchang 2018 Winter Olympics participation with a press conference at the Main Press Centre of the games, Friday.
The athletes, representing two generations of Olympic champions, sat down with journalists to show their medals and to comment on their Olympic experience. Thirty-three-year-old Lindsey Vonn won bronze during the women’s alpine downhill final on Tuesday, medaling for the first time in eight years, while Mikaela Shiffrin, 22, secured gold and silver on Giant Slalom and Alpine Combined respectively.
Lindsey Vonn recently confessed that the games in South Korea would always be special, as she revealed that she had scattered the ashes of her late grandfather near the downhill course. Her grandfather, who passed away in November, had been stationed in Pyeongchang during the Korean War.
Mikaela Shiffrin opened up about the recent pressure on her for comparisons with US all-time most successful Olympic champion Michael Phelps. «There’s not one path [to become an Olympic champion], there’s a million different personalities, a million different ways to go about that kind of success, but the one thing that does not change is perseverance and hard work. Those are really the only two things that one can put down on a book of how to create a champion,» said Shiffrin.

На Играх в Пхенчхане 15-летняя Загитова взяла золото в личных соревнованиях и серебро — в командных.

Alina Zagitova won the Olympic women’s figure skating competition bringing Olympic Athletes from Russia (OAR) their first gold medal at the Pyeongchang Games on Friday, just two days before the event comes to a close. Russian fans reacted with joy at the performance outside the Gangneung venue.
In the free skate 15-year-old Zagitova managed to maintain the advantage over her compatriot and training partner Evgenia Medvedeva, a two-time world champion.
Canada's Kaetlyn Osmond took bronze.

Members of the US women's ice hockey team reacted after becoming Olympic champions, during a press conference held at the Main Press Centre of the Pyeongchang Winter Olympics, Friday, after beating long-term rivals Canada 3-2 in the final.
The team secured victory after a dramatic sudden-death final, in which the game ended up being decided on shootouts.
Canada, known as an ice hockey powerhouse, won gold at the previous four Winter Olympic Games.

«We were very nervous. Alina's skating today was a bit more discreet [than usual], but she did everything,» said Natalia Antipina, Alina's first coach.
The first coach of 15-year-old old Zagitova was rooting for her with Alina's father, sister, other coaches and kids, on the ice rink in Zagitova's hometown.
«I'm very happy. I don't even know how to express my feelings. She is great,» Alina's sister Sabina could barely hide her excitement.

Elated fans celebrated the Olympic Athletes from Russia’s (OAR) 3-0 victory against the Czech Republic in Gangneung on Friday, sending them through to the men’s ice hockey finals of the 2018 Winter Olympics. This will be the first time Russians will play the finals in 20 years.
President of the Russian Hockey Federation and a three times gold medallist Vladislav Tretyak compared the a match to a game in the 1998 Nagano Olympics, when the Czech Republic won. He said that the rematch was a «great success for our hockey team», as they came out triumphant.
The OAR are set to play against the winner of Germany-Canada on Sunday.
Fans of the OAR celebrated the historic win with Tretyak congratulating the team for its «powerful performance.»
