Not much from the Pacific this morning.
209 MQ used to be the most reliable from Japan but it seems to have gone
away. 214 XA is heard more often, now. 360 OX on Iwo Jima now and then, but
U6,BC with its own DAID and about same offset is usually much stronger.373
PQ now and then, like this morning. All the Japan beacons seem to have a
DAID, so hearing one on a known frequency may be a good indicator.
Nothing for 530 Adak today.

Last night I found a new Russian NDB: ZG-475, Petrovskoye, RUS, 2508 km.
Though Russian NDB's are as common as flies in Finland, they are quite rare here.
ZG-475 was no exception: a weak signal, barely above the noise floor.
There must have been some propagation from the east as a few other were logged as well.
This morning I listened for Canada at local sunrise.Only 3 stations were audible:
BX-220, QX-280 and DF-350. DDP-391 from PTR was weak.

UNID KDR-429 was audible quite early on in the evening. At the time I also heard D-435, Tripoly and GHT-335, Ghat, both from Libya. So LBY might be a possibility.
Maybe it can be heard as daytimer from Italy.

Another Brazilian fell into the net overnight - SLI-280 San Luis (MA)
BRA - Vernon and Vincent had heard this one recently. So sitting on
the known offset from 2330 onwards, weak traces of a station were
visible around 2345 and just after midnight it became audible - it
faded out about 0030. Interestingly again San Luis is located right on
the North coast with water virtually all the way. Also this slot from
2330 - 0030 seems very productive at present. A total of 12 Brazil
beacons now logged.

Yesterday I returned from Tenerife Island to Gotland Island after two wonderful weeks in Los Cristianos. Pool-life, nice food, nice drinks, nice sun, lovely warm temperature

(20-24 C). Now back to the gotlandic "winter" - just now + 7.0 C! Time to cut the grass!!!
I got a little log from Los Cristianos. Not so big, but all NDBs are new for me. Never heard them from my ordinary QTH.

Here for a while in North Lincolnshire, having just installed Roelof's magic

19 14:06 321 VO 0.4 1-- (5sec) (UNID)

This should be VO-321 Vojens/Skrydstrup DNK - it was SP-321 for a
while and something else earlier , so it's had a few IDs recently.
I logged it last month using VO (g3ufi 19/02/2008)

A few heard from the Pacific. Tried for Alaska, but if there was a good
period, I missed it.

Conditions were kind of weird last night.
Some not often heard French stations could be logged.
UNID KDR-429 was quite strong at local midnight.
This is an intrgueing one.
DX was very poor at local sunrise; just DF-350 being audible and weak at
that!

I was very curious, whether I would be able to catch KDR-429 or not after
Roelof's alert.
No luck last night but, yes, this evening it appeared on 430,03 kHz (at
least on SpecLab) although the ALA1530S+ was aligned on 200 / 20 (I still
don't have the rotor working and it's too cold outside).

These are first time loggings made here in North Lincolnshire, away from the
home QTH. They bring my total from here to about 570 NDBs (not counting
ones now known to be inactive).
Conditions seem excellent this evening. I was pleased to catch 497 BZ, my
first from East Russia and the furthest NDB I've heard from the east. Lets
hope good conditions last through the CLE this weekend.

Where is the back-link of PETROMAR's circuit to their platform "P.F.C.P."
(Platforma Fixa Centrala de Productie). They did calling (MultiPSK decodes
what looks like a 7 letter-selcal "TXPMQIU") on 4207 kHz and later send
a message to "PETROMAR_CONDUCERE" (?). But for sure not on simplex...
They IDed as "P.F.C.P./YQFT" in this msg. YQFT seems to their international
callsign. But that one is unkown at ITU's MARS database. ?!?!?!?

Has anybody any idea about the aero operations on 5610 kHz? They ID
themselfes as "CHL 5xx", but sometimes the same CHL gave as L, CL, CLL,
CH or HL (short-cuts?). I thought weeks ago it could be a LDOC from Lima
(Peru) "Hotel Lima", but now it did not look like any from PRU.
CHL = Chile? But CHL is not the 3-letter ID for any Chilean airline,
but a COHLMIA AVIATION from Dallas, TX. Traffic was for sure aero,
English language but sounded like "no native English speakers".

The UNID Russian coastal station UHX5 was again logged on 6483 kHz
in CW. No further ID so far, only "my" old idea for a new "Astrakhan Radio".
Any comments? Anyone has any ID ??

73, Tom

T/A conditions continue to improve, and after seeing Vincent's catch of New
Bern the previous night I thought I'd give this a try and see if I could remove
the ever present Vlieland Lt beacon in the Netherlands with my phasing unit.
Much to my surprise this proved easier than I thought, and it appeared very
quickly and decoded clearly for a good 10 minutes, don't know why I never
thought to try for this before. That was my 7th US Beacon to date, nice to
have that in the log for the first time.

Caught Naha Japan $11G this morning for a new one on NAVTEX. Signals were really good for a few minutes! Actually Incredible! Then faded away. Slipped down to 424

and caught a few lines from the Kushiro $11K as well before it faded, signals were best on the inv-L rather than the Loop, even thought the loop was quieter. Still learning!

Looked for the XA NDB on 214 with no luck. Is XA my best shot at logging a Japan NDB???

Nothing special to mention abt this log from the last week. AUB-427 came in
fine as a new one allthough it's not that far from here. It's allways
covered by RY-427 an/or TJA-426 (+1027).
I've to cope with a local noise which has been becoming a plague especially
during the afternoon and the evening untill 0100/0200 hours for a couple of
weeks bringing the S meter up to S6 from 200 Hz to 6 mHz.
Patrick, I've every reason to fear I'm joining your club !.
It appeared exactly the week the neighbour installed a new HD Plasma TV set.
Cause or coincidence ? That's the question ?
New technology is wonderfull indeed, isn't it ?
Anyway I'll survive !
Have a nice day !

New 9595 kHz & 6060 kHz Finland Shortwave
20 February 2008

"Starting February 20, 2008 the Overcomer will be testing a new shortwave
station from the city of Pori in Finland. This station has been dark from
some time and has been reactivated for use by the ministry. Once a cold war
propaganda tool for Radio Finland, now we are going to utilize it for the
preaching of the end time gospel. The station's unique location in Finland
allows for a strong winter time coverage of Europe. The schedule for this
months testing is:

To Europe - 6060 kHz
18.59-20.59 UTC
2pm to 4 pm Eastern Standard Time
8 to 10 pm Central European time
250 kW Transmitter

To Near-East / Middle East - 9595 kHz
14.59-16.59 UTC
10 am to 12 noon EST
5 to 7 pm Israel time
250 kW Transmitter"
http://www.overcomerministry.org/content/view/334/95/

In the coming months the Euro-African Medium Wave Guide (EMWG) will
celebrate its 10th anniversary. On this occasion a quiz contest will be
held, open to everybody, regardless of location or club membership. The
quiz, 21 questions, will deal with many radio aspects, and will not solely
cover medium wave. The contest dates have been set to 01 March 2008 through
30 April 2008.

A special web site has been set up for the contest: www.emwg-contest.org.
Please feel free to have a look.

So as of 01 March you will be able to see/download the quiz from the web
site. Until then you can see what prizes have been added for the
participants. There you will find the information on schedule, prizes (for
now), sponsors, etc.

As participating is (really) more important than winning, some prizes are
given randomly to entrants.

Finally, I would already like to thank the following sponsors: Medium Wave
Circle, Danish Shortwave Club International, RadioVisie, NASWA.

(Herman Boel, www.emwg.info and www.emwg-contest.org)

( Latest prizes received - 1 subscription to Radio User Magazine; 5 free
one-year e-subscriptions to DXA-Bulletin and their members mailing list; 3
copies of WRTH2008)
