We're having a lot of fun with our Migration May series, helping you do everything you can to move to the latest versions of Notes and Domino, and move from those "other systems" to Lotus-based messaging.

Last week, we ran Migration May: moving from Outlook to Notes, which helped you take back the story of migrating from Outlook to Notes.

In response to our article, we got a request from Fernando Modesto Nacio Hernando Evaristo (whew!). Fernando writes:

Migrating from Outlook to Notes is all well and good, but I've got to still maintain an Active Directory system. What can I do about that?

This could be a very complex topic, but I'm going to cover it in a few sentences. You can synchronize your Windows Server Active Directory with your Domino directory.

The best approach is to run your Active Directory domain controller, your Domino server, and your the Domino Administrator on separate servers. This is a good idea anyway, because as you migrate, you're going to want Domino to be running on a fresh machine.

You'll need two key tools: the Windows 2003 Administration Tools Pack and ADSync (part of Domino). Follow the directions here.

To manually replicate - if not set this option, then after the analysis (comparing the replicas) to issue a message about this situation with a choice of actions:
  • add (not meaningful) documents into the main database (now works exactly);
