Straight from Copenhagen, Denmark comes “Flygt,” the second film by Jonas Hansson.
Known to European skaters for his first release, “Adapt,” which may have been the first full-length skate video released online, that effort helped get Jacob Juul some deserved exposure. He’s since gone on to win the AIL World Championships.

A new reports cites inline skating and other wheeled sports as the best activities to prevent childhood obesity.
While I was watching the practice, the falls, and the relays on the side-lines with a few other skaters who weren't skating, I found that I was either closing my eyes, saying 'woahhhahah ahha what the heck was that??' when it was clear that someone was about to go down or after a fall took place.
Since I hadn't really watched a skating practice in a long time, I figured that the falls and the chaotic action during the relays is 'normal' stuff that I don't see when I am involved in skating or coaching.
Earlier this evening, I read Candy Wong's blog and her recent entry Splat; about Monday's practice, she wrote 'If you did not fall during practice, please raise your hand. If your hand is up, give yourself a pat on your back. I think we must have set the record for the most number of falls for one practice... To all the injured skaters in the club, I hope we will all be back to 100% soon'.
Aaron Arndt also noted the recent flurry of falls in Back to school and some randomness he says 'The skaters at Scooter’s are really flying these days! The skill level of the group has improved unbelievably, and they are starting to be masters at some pretty difficult and comlicated drills.... Unfortunately, with the elevated speeds, and increased passing comfort and ability, the risk and effect of the crashes increases dramatically. This is a big shout out to those suffering from skating injuries; Stay sharp team!...'.
(About the Ottawa skating scence, Aaron says that he'll be there at practice this Saturday and says 'Also, there might just be a few Publow sightings around the Canadian Skating scene these days')
Ok, I guess the chaos and all the falls that I witnessed don't happen on a reglar basis.
That's a good thing.
If skaters fell that often on a regular basis, I think the Scooter's club would be pretty darn small.
Then again, I think if skaters fell that often on a regular basis, the club would probably be just as big and successful as it is now. Many of the members of the Toronto (and beyond) skating fraternity hang out before or after practice, and I like to think that the friendships and the bonds that people share keeps us coming out. It was nice to reconnect with the gang last Monday after skating.
I also like to think that the quest for a healthy body through roller (or ice) speed skating is also something- a motivation or reason- that keeps people involved and coming out to attend practice.
And as I write and while preach about the importance for all of us to support skating and attend practice, the Scooter's club is practicing... and I sit at home.
I have my reasons for not being at skating though. I can't skate right now due to my knee injury and I have to write a plan and a proposal for a program for work, and I have to present it tomorrow morning at 8am.
Hip hip horray for skating and a big loud booooooooo for waking up early.
6 Years: Here's an interesting article that hits as close to skating as possible; Dad Who Gave Son Steroids Is Given 6-Year Sentence. 'James Gahan admitted giving the synthetic testosterone and human growth hormone to his son, Corey, a champion in-line skater, who was banned from the sport, for at least two years...'. Here is Bill Begg's reaction from WOW; '...with so many top Champions from many sports in the USA being done for drugs, who is not on them?... the 6 years jail is a small price for him to pay, for stuffing up his sons life & health.
The Judge sent out a message to parents 0f Athletes, who want to excel.'.
By-Town Cancelled: Marathon Skating International's By-Town Marathon was set to take place in Ottawa this weekend. The race has been cancelled due to warm weather. I heard that there were some grassy patches on the track. Grass?? Hmmm.

Skating & Kids: The Inline Planet has a new article called Rx for Slim Kids Inline Skating. They say 'Inline skating and other wheeled sports are at the top of the list of activities that help kids stay slim and fit'.
A little skater in front of a taller skater who is in front of probably a medium sized skater
A few younger skater ready to take on the 2006 ESS
A couple of young speedsters going for the line at the 2006 Canadian Championships
There were groups playing rugby nearby, which did not seem at all odd especially with the world rugby championship going on in France at the time. Seeing a number of groups playing hockey on rollerblades seemed somehow out of place. Expat Canadians, no doubt.
