Protesters set cars alight as violent anti-government protests continued into the night in Paris on Saturday.
At least 135 people were injured, including 17 police officers. According to the French Interior Ministry, more than 1,000 people were put in custody following Saturday protests.
The 'Yellow Vest' movement emerged last month after French President Emmanuel Macron announced hikes in fuel taxes to encourage a transition towards greener energy. The French government have now suspended the prices hikes but protests continue nevertheless.

The town of Velika Kladusa near the border of Bosnia and Croatia has been flooded with refugees as Bosnia is the last frontier to cross on the Balkan refugee route before getting in the EU.
Though the border is heavily fortified, some refugees do manage to get through. However, more and more of them are reporting that, even after they arrive in the EU, border police are torturing, beating and illegally deporting them back to Bosnia and out of the EU.

USA: Ex-Trump campaign aide Papadopoulos speaks in DC fresh off his 12-day prison term

Just over 24 hours after being released from a federal prison, former Trump campaign aide George Papadopoulos spoke at the American Priority Conference in Washington D.C. on Saturday.
Papadopoulos was released on Friday, after spending 12 days in prison for lying to federal agents about his contact with Russian-linked individuals during the presidential campaign.
Speaking at the conference, Papadopoulos claimed that he was lured to a meeting with a «fake niece» of Russian President Vladimir Putin, adding that «there was some game going on.»
He stressed that he had nothing to do with Russia, noting that «my entire case essentially is built on this professor, who the governments try to project and portray falsely as a Russian agent, but the whole time he was interacting me for about a month or so in London, he was actually working on behalf of Western intelligence.»

Hundreds flooded the streets of the Sicilian town of Niscemi on Saturday, decrying the presence of the Mobile User Objective System (MUOS), a US military communications satellite system.
The 'No MUOS' activists condemn what they perceive as the US territorial occupation.
One of the activists, Antonio Mazzeo, claimed that «Sicily is a war platform, from which drones and air-bomb missions are launched every day. Sicily is the main US drone-hub in the Mediterranean area — they use drones for Africa, the Middle East and to spy the Donbass front-line in Ukraine's east.»
The MUOS consists of five satellites and four ground stations, one of which is located in Niscemi, and if launched is feared to produce a dangerous number of waves, possibly affecting nature and humans.

The historic and sacred site of Saint Sarkis Cathedral in central Tehran was decorated on Saturday in preparation for Christmas and New Year’s Eve.
Armenians, who make up the largest segment of the Christian population in Iran, gather at the cathedral every year to put up Christmas trees, wreaths and garlands.
Saint Sarkis Cathedral is an Armenian Apostolic church established in 1970.
The church was named after Saint Sarkis the Warrior, a martyr and military saint in the Armenian Apostolic Church.

Armenian citizens cast their ballots in snap parliamentary elections in Yerevan on Sunday. The early elections follow the resignation of now-acting Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan on October 10.
A total of 2,010 polling stations are open with 2.57 million citizens eligible to vote. Rule of Law party leader Artur Baghdasaryan was seen voting and casting his ballot at a polling station in Yerevan.
Nine parties and two pre-election blocs are listed on the ballot. The My Step Alliance spearheaded by Pashinyan is the favourite to win, according to opinion polls.
According to the country’s constitution, a political organisation that secures the majority of votes is to form a government and chose the prime minister.
Over 23,000 local and 500 foreign observers from eight organisations including the OSCE Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, the Parliamentary assembly of the Council of Europe, and the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly are monitoring the election.
France: Paris deals with aftermath of 'Yellow Vest' protest violence

Citizens and council workers in Paris began to clean the streets and repair damage to storefronts on Sunday after the latest day of fierce clashes between riot police and 'Yellow Vest' protesters.
Footage shows a number of burned and vandalised vehicles, destroyed bus stops and shattered windows in the aftermath of the violent clashes.
The French government deployed around 8,000 police officers on the streets of Paris as thousands of protesters gathered on Saturday. It was estimated that 125,000 people protested throughout the country, with 1,723 confirmed arrests, according to reports citing officials.
The demonstrations, which began earlier in the month, were initially called in response to French President Emmanuel Macron's announcement of fuel tax hikes but have since evolved into an expression of general anger at high costs of living, poverty and inequality in France.

12 декабря актеру и режиссеру Леониду Быкову исполнилось бы 90 лет. В апреле 79-го его жизнь оборвала авария — лобовое столкновение с грузовиком. Быков погиб 39 лет назад, но память о нем до сих пор хранят его друзья.
Когда случилась авария, в которой Быков погиб, многие стали говорить про самоубийство. Якобы, режиссер, так любивший жизнь, предсказал свою гибель за несколько лет до столкновения, описав свои похороны в письме другу. Некоторые строчки письма пугали: «Не верьте, если вам скажут, что я наложил на себя руки. Знайте, я просто износился».

Head of the Houthi delegation at the Yemen peace talks in Sweden, Mohammad Abdul Salam, said that a concrete agreement on Yemen must be reached at the end of the talks, while speaking to the press on the fourth day of the UN-backed Yemen peace talks in Rimbo on Sunday.
«If we leave empty handed, it means that this session was a failure. But if we leave with an initial agreement, which contains a general plan, trust building, opening Sanaa airport, releasing prisoners and detainees, unifying the central bank, or taking steps to fix the economy, de-escalation, whether in Hodeidah or other areas, this would count as a good step towards holding negotiations in a month or two,” he stressed.
The UN-backed Yemen peace talks, aimed at putting an end to the country's four-year-old conflict, are expected to run until December 13.

«There was a direct face-to-face meeting between members of the prisoners committee, since the agreement [on prisoners exchange] was a success. More meetings may follow, and there may follow the handing over of lists with the names of the detainees, and these lists may be revised in accordance with the agreement.»

UK: Police scuffle with antifascist demonstrators in London

Several antifascist activists were detained after scuffles with police in London on Sunday, during a counter demonstration against a UKIP-organised march in support of Brexit, featuring former English Defence League (EDL) leader Tommy Robinson.
Footage shows the police scuffling with protesters and attempting to hold them back, as well as demonstrators chanting slogans and carrying placards and banners.
Despite the scuffles, heightened security measures ensured that the opposing marches were kept apart.

The traditional Krampus Run took place at Munich Christmas market on Sunday, as the feared devil-like masked creatures known as Krumpus roamed the streets scaring children and passers-by alike.
The Krampus can be seen running through the the streets armed with chains, bells, and sticks for swatting naughty children and shoppers.
According to this year organiser' Gordon Wust, the popular Central European tradition dates back to the pre-Christian era, and is held every year in December. The Krampus is fabled to be the scary companion and antithesis of Santa Claus, who punishes children who misbehave.
Peru: Peruvian President Vizcarra casts his vote in anti-corruption referendum

Peruvian President Martin Vizcarra cast his ballot at a polling station in Lima on Sunday, as Peruvians across the country headed to the polls to participate in a referendum on a number of political and judicial reforms.
Vizcarra spoke to the press after casting his vote, cautioning that «it's not with these reforms that we'll solve the problems,» Vizcarra but added «this is the first step for the reforms we want, all Peruvians want.»
The questions on the ballot include measures that would prohibit legislators from immediate re-election and the creation of a second chamber in congress.
Peruvians, who can vote until 21:00 GMT [22:00 CET] headed to 5,398 polling stations across the country.
Belgium: Repoening of Africa Museum sparks debate over artefact restitution

Belgium's Africa museum reopened its doors in the Tervuren Palace outside Brussels on Sunday, after five years of restoration works.
The reopening has fueled a debate on whether African artefacts should be given back to their countries of origin, as President of the Democratic Republic of Congo Joseph Kabila called for the repatriation of the items.
«Whether the works of art that came from Africa should be returned or not is of course a big issue since [French] President [Emmanuel] Macron has said that it's not normal that more than 80 percent of African cultural heritage is outside of Africa. We do fully agree with President Macron that this is not normal, and so this museum has a very open attitude to the restitution issue», said Director of Africa Museum Bruno Verberget.
The museum was founded by King Leopold II to house items collected in the Congo Free State during Belgian rule, including beheaded skulls of tribal chiefs and stuffed animals slaughtered by hunters.
Venezuela: Maduro casts his vote in municipal elections in Caracas

Venezuelan President Nicolas Maduro cast his vote in the municipal council elections, at a polling station in a local school in Caracas.
This is Venezuela's fifth election in 18 months. 2,459 councillors are due to be elected in the 335 municipal chambers across the country.
The main opposition parties have reportedly boycotted the local elections, claiming that the election is «a fraud.»
