Hi everyone! I wonder how often do you learn English a week? How many lessons do you have? How much time do you spend on learning English?
The point is when I started learning this question worried me a lot to be honest. I didn't really know how much time I should have spent on learning English to make good progress shortly. Currently my English is pretty well. For one year of studying I've got good experience of it. It means my way of learning is not so bad then.
So in this article I wanna share with you my opinion about the right way of learning. I'll tell you how I planned my time and how I combined my lessons and practice with the rest.
I truly hope this post will help you to break all your doubts and not to think too much if you learn English properly or not.
1. Lessons.
As I already told you in the article «How I began to speak English in half a year» I had a tutor. And I told you that a good tutor it was very important in the beginning. He actually can help you to spend your time correctly to get good results in a short time. Depending on your knowledge and goals he can make the right learning system personally for you. So if you don't have a teacher I insist on your having. This way you'll learn English much more quickly. Believe me.
Ok, if you have a good tutor, how many lessons should you have a week? Some people told me «If you want to learn English very quickly you have to study every day!» And that's actually right, but it doesn't mean you have to have 5 lessons a week with your tutor. Forget about it.
Everything you have to do is to have 2-3 lessons a week with a tutor, no more. It's quite enough. I studied only 2-3 times a week by one hour.
But the very important moment is you have to study on your own a lot. That's really true. You should do your best and do all the homework your teacher gives you. You should try to be involved in English every day wherever you are. Listen to English speech, read books, try to talk with somebody. All the means are good here. And try to do some little exercises every day, because exercises it's the best way to improve your grammar. As more exercises you do as sooner you'll learn it. Just try to do 1-2 exercises a day except them your tutor gave you.
Ok, let's repeat one more time. How should you spend your time when you learn English:
1) Study 2-3 times a week with a tutor by 1 hour. It's enough.
2) Try to learn English on your own every day, be involved in it. Read books, listen to audio podcasts, try to learn at least one new word a day.
3) Do at least 1-2 extra exercises a day. Some little ones. Don't kill yourself.
2. Speaking practise.
This is the most important thing! Unless you have practise you won't succeed. Remember it. This is the language and to speak it we must speak. People who move to some English speaking country and live there for half a year start to speak very well. And they don't have any tutors, nobody explains to them rules of grammar. They just speak English, that's all.
And what bothers you to do the same in your country. Of course It's not gonna be the same at all, but anyway try to find some pen-friends, try to talk on voice chat with somebody. We live in the 21st century. There are lots of ways to speak English even staying home. Just do it. Don't be shy.
As for me I started finding foreign friends at the same evening I had my first lesson. It turned out to be not difficult at all. For sure I didn't talk on voice chat every day, but on weekends I did it by at least 40 minutes a day. Of course it was not easy in the beginning, but it was absolutely necessary. And it is necessary for you now.
You see, 40 minutes a weekend and two more times with a tutor and you speak English 4-5 days of the week already. Not so bad, isn't it?
So try to talk to foreign people as more as possible. Or try just to chat with them on your smartphone, iPad, galaxy tab etc.
3. The rest.
The last very important thing is having a rest when you need it. Don't kill yourself. Don't learn English more than 1 hour per one time. After this time just take a brake, go outside, do something at home etc. Our brain can't get information well after 1 hour of learning or so.
And don't learn English more than 3 hours a day. It's no use.
I spent about two hours and half on my learning a day. It's enough.
So guys, let's look one more time at all the moments I told you about:
1) Study 2-3 times a week with a tutor by 1 hour. It's enough.
2) Try to learn English on your own every day, be involved in it. Read books, listen to audio podcasts, try to learn at least one new word a day etc.
3) Do at least 1-2 extra exercises a day. Some little ones. Don't kill yourself.
4) Try to speak English to somebody at least 2 hours a week.
5) Don't learn English too much. Two hours and half per one day it's more than enough.
And in addition I'd like to say to you one more thing. Please, don't be upset when you can't say something in English. Don't be sad if you can't do some exercise. Just keep calm and carry on to learn English. Day by day you'll make your language better. Day by day you'll speak English better.
The first three months will be the most difficult for you. Be ready.
Just keep learning English and you'll succeed! Remember my words;)
Take care!
