PhD Student Position in Computer Algebra for Particle Physics
======================================================

The Research Institute for Symbolic Computation ( www.risc.jku.at/)
in cooperation with the RISC Software GMBH of the Johannes Kepler University Linz,
Austria, are offering a PhD-position initially for two years (with a possible prolongation
by one year), and starting at the earliest possible time.

The PhD work will be carried out in the frame of the Marie Curie Initial
Training Network LHCPhenonet (www.lhcphenonet.eu) which consists of a unique
combination of research groups with outstanding expertise in computer algebra
and modern physics that aims at pushing further challenging computations
that are needed for the Large Hadron Collider (LHC) of CERN and at other
challenging frontiers of Quantum Field Theory.

We are looking for a candidate who is interested in developing/extending
sophisticated and efficient computer algebra algorithms related to symbolic
summation and/or symbolic integration. Special emphasis will be put on
the task to apply these algorithms to special functions that are strongly
related to problems in particle physics. The candidate will be trained by our
high quality PhD curriculum (http://www.risc.jku.at/education/phd/)
and will be integrated in the algorithmic combinatorics group and the physics
team therein. Strong interactions within the international partners of the
LHCPhenonet network are desired.

Due to requirements of the EU grant the candidates must not have resided or
carried out their main activity (work, studies, etc.) in Austria for more than
12 months in the 3 years immediately prior to their recruitment.

Excellent and highly motivated candidates with a Master's degree in mathematics
or computer science, with strong interest in computer algebra and its
application in particle physics and special functions are encouraged to send! their
application (including a CV and at least one recommendation letter) to
