Newton International Fellowships

Closing date: 12th January 2009

The Newton International Fellowships Scheme is an initiative of the
UK's leading academies - the British Academy, the Royal Academy of
Engineering and the Royal Society. The scheme has been established to
select the very best early stage post-doctoral researchers from all
over the world and enable them to work at UK research institutions for
a period of two years.

The Scheme covers researchers in all disciplines covered by the three
academies - natural and social sciences, engineering and the
humanities. The Fellowships provide grants of Pd24,000 per annum to
cover subsistence and Pd8,000 per annum to cover research expenses,
plus a one-off relocation allowance of Pd2,000.

As part of the scheme, all Newton Fellows who remain in research will
be granted a 10 year follow-up funding package worth Pd6,000 per annum.
This funding will enable links with UK based researchers to be
maintained and developed. This is expected to facilitate, in the
longer term, improved access to international centres of excellence
for UK-based researchers. In addition, Newton Fellows will have the
opportunity to join the international Alumni scheme run by RCUK, which
aims to build a network of overseas researchers and encourage new
collaborations.

Applicants should be working outside the UK and should not hold UK
citizenship at the time of application. Researchers already based in
the UK are not eligible to apply.

Applications are invited for Fellowships starting in October 2009.
