SHEPHERD YARN REQUIRED
COLOUR 4 ME 50g balls

For Both Beanie and Fingerless Gloves - 1 Ball each of 3 Contrast Colours (C1-pink, C2-pastel print and C3-green).

IMPORTANT! Use only the yarn specified for these items. Other yarns may give unsatisfactory results. Quantities are approximate as they can vary between knitters.

EQUIPMENT - 1 pair 4.00mm (No 8) Knitting Needles and 1 pair 3.25mm (No 10) Knitting Needles for Fingerless Gloves or sizes needed to give correct tension. A Wool Needle for sewing up.

TENSION - 22 sts and 30 rows to 10 cm over stocking st, using 4.00mm Needles. To work a 15 cm x 15 cm tension square, use 4.00mm Needles and M, cast on 33 sts. Work 44 rows stocking st. Cast off loosely.
Please check your tension carefully. If less sts use smaller needles, if more sts use bigger needles.

BEANIE
Using 4.00mm Needles and M, cast on 101 (105-109) sts.
Using M, work 20 (20-24) rows stocking st.
Using C1, knit 4 rows garter st.
Using C2, work 10 (12-14) rows stocking st.
Using C3, knit 4 rows garter st.
Using C1, work 6 rows stocking st.
Using M, knit 4 rows garter st.
Using C3, work 4 rows stocking st, dec 2 (6-3) sts evenly across last row = 99 (99-106) sts.
SHAPE CROWN - Using C2 and working in stocking st for rem, 1st row - K1, * K2tog, K5, rep from * to end = 85 (85-91) sts.
2nd and foll alt rows - Purl.
3rd row - K1, * K2tog, K4, rep from * to end = 71 (71-76) sts.
5th row - K1, * K2tog, K3, rep from * to end = 57 (57-61) sts.
7th row - K1, * K2tog, K2, rep from * to end = 43 (43-46) sts.
9th row - K1, * K2tog, K1, rep from * to end = 29 (29-31) sts.
11th row - K1, * K2tog rep from * to end = 15 (15-16) sts.
13th row - K1 (1-0), (K2tog) 7 (7-8) times = 8 sts.
14th row - Purl. Break off yarn.
Run end through rem sts, draw up tightly and fasten off securely.

MAKE UP
DO NOT PRESS. Using wool needle and running st seam, join seam, reversing seam for first 4 (4-5) cm from cast on edge. Allow stocking st rows to roll to right side. Make 3 tassels, one in each M, C1 and C3, and attach to top of crown as pictured. Using wool needle, sew in all ends.

FINGERLESS GLOVES (make 2 pieces)
Using 3.25mm Needles and C1, cast on 29 (33-37) sts.
1st row - K2, * P1, K1, rep from * to last st, K1.
2nd row - K1, * P1, K1, rep from * to end.
Rep 1st and 2nd rows 8 (9-10) times = 18 (20-22) rows rib in all.
Change to 4.00mm Needles.
Using C1, knit 4 rows garter st.
Using C2, work in stocking st until work measures 13 (14-15) cm (or length desired) from beg, working last row on wrong side.
Using C3, knit 4 rows garter st.
Cast off loosely knitways.

MAKE UP
DO NOT PRESS. Fold glove in half lengthways and using wool needle and running st seam, join side seam matching stripes and leaving an opening approx 3-4 cm for thumb. At cast off edge oversew in 3 places to make 4 finger openings. Using wool needle, sew in all ends.
