Короткие Волны (Shortwaves)

Албания
R. Tirana, 13600, in English to NAm, was just introducing final musical segment when I tuned in May 5 at 2021, until 2028* Turned out to be the only European signal making it thru on that band, SINPO 25333, so congratulations are in order. SF=68, K=3 at 21 (Glenn Hauser, OK, USA - dxldyg 06/05/2008)

Антарктида
A very weak carrier detectable on 15476, not 15475, Friday May 2 at 2056, is the first sign of LRA-36 I have had since reactivation earlier this month. Yet nothing audible on 15345, and I also checked 15825 for WWCR with WOR, also inaudible (Glenn Hauser, OK, USA - dxldyg 04/05/2008)

15476, LRA 36, Radio Nacional Arcangel San Gabriel,
1903-1920, 05-05. Canciones en espanol, locutora, comentarios. Senal muy
debil, apenas audible hoy. 14221. (M. Mendez, Lugo, Spain - dxkdyg 07/05/2008)

Бангладеш
I'm now getting Bangladesh Betar Domestic Service Transmission on 4750kHz during morning hours. At first, on sunday i.e. May 4th I found loud & clear signal of Bangladesh Betar around 0231UTC onwards.
There was news in Bengali from 0300UTC.
At first I thought due to possible Cyclonic Strom Nargis in parts of Bangladesh , the morning transmission was there as this particular Cyclonic Strom was frequently changing its directions finally hitting some parts of Burma. But I found no special info on Cyclonic Strom during my monitoring periods. This was not the case with CEDAR another Cyclonic Strom in Bay of Bengal during November 2007. There was frequent warning etc announcements about Cyclonic Strom during their special morning to all day long special
transmission.
Anyway, I found this morning transmission of Bangladesh Betar on 4750kHz also on May 5 (morning prayers etc at early morning ) & May 6 ( at 0100UTC News in Bangla with time signal etc) also. Perhaps they have begun their regular morning transmission again after a long break.

Another question: Is this transmitter plant still in use for anything
else besides CRI? All other foreign customers left years ago. There
were quite a number of them: Deutsche Welle (started in November 1987,
gone by 1996), Swiss Radio International (already running by 1990,
gone by 1996), BBC apparently for some time during the eighties
(explained as "left after the Ascension relay has been expanded" in
1990), around 1990 (was gone by 1993) even a Radio Suriname
International, in 1990 reported as Mon-Fri only 1700-1745 on 17750, in
Dutch with short news in English at 1730, frequency changes are common
"but in any case they stay within the 16 mB". And the CRI relay
apparently started in 1991 or very shortly thereafter.

All foreign broadcasts from Radiobras (like on 15265 to Europe, which
had a behaviour to fade out during the German segment between 1930 and
2050) are long gone, but are the transmitters still in use for domestic
coverage? WRTH 2008 shows 5990 Mon-Fri 1000-2400, 6180 or 6190 (maybe
about 1000-2400 as well?), 11780 (0900-0200) and also 11950 without a
mark for "inactive".

The plant in question has six or perhaps seven Brown Boveri SK 53 F3
(motorized manual tuning, plate modulation) transmitters, installed
around 1975. Has its exact location already being established? It is
not at the coordinates given by TDP, they refer to a point next to the
Brazilia airport (which got a new lane only after the images used by
Microsoft Virtual Earth had been taken). No transmitter site there or
in the surrounding area. (Kai Ludwig, Germany - dxldyg 05/05/2008)

I heard what I'm sure must have been Senado 5990 on the 4th July 2007 at
2155UTC when LUX-DRM was not on air. There was what sounded a debate and,
after announcements at 2200, the start of "A Voz do Brasil". But the
transmitter dropped off air at 2203. (Reported to DXLD at the time) I
haven't tried for it since then - or since LUX stopped DRMing. Maybe someone
in SW Europe could try at around 2200UTC.

Although I did not make a log of it, I also tentatively heard Amazonia
before the frequency changes at the end of March 2008 using 6180 after RHC
went off air at 0700UTC. I don't know what else it could have been.

Frequency 11780 should be audible in Europe and the Americas if it's still
in use - another one to try - but I don't recall any use of 11950 by
RadioBras in recent times. But maybe someone else does.
(Noel Green, U.K. - dxldyg 05/05/2008)

Ватикан
Finally May 5 I set an alarm to remind myself to check for VR`s little English broadcast which appears on none of their schedules; is it still going in A-08? Yes! So since it continues reliably, it should be added by those keeping track of all broadcasts in English.

Waiting on 9600, false-start carrier a few seconds after 2311, then back on to stay from 2311:30 with English talk, but about what I am not sure as reception was poor to fair and I had other things to check in the meantime. This lasted until 2314, into IS preceding Vietnamese eastward from Santa Maria di Galeria at 2315.

So this English broadcast lasts 2.5 minutes from 2311 and a half until 2314 UT daily, or maybe a full 3 minutes from 2311 with no false start; or slightly less if you subtract the ``Laudetur Jesus Christus`` ID just before IS. In the clear this date, no het from XEYU 9599.3, which has gone missing again (Glenn Hauser, OK, USA - dxldyg 06/05/2008)

Гватемала
4799.7 Guatemala Radio Buenas Nuevas. Possibility that XERTA
cooperating, as Mexican sometimes off when Radio Buenas Nuevas is
transmitting. 0030 to 0050 on 4 May noted with fair to good signal.

Германия
(J. M. Romero, Burjasot, Spain - dxldyg 02/05/2008)

DW, Germany in Arabic still on 15420 via Rwanda, May 5 at 1739 check; much stronger at 2004 recheck after 1900 beam change from 325 to 310 degrees (and perhaps coincidentally improving propagation). By 2056 re-recheck it was easily the strongest station on the 19m band, except for Greenville 15185.

I had the BFO on to seek LRA36 (no luck) and back on 15420 discovered that the DW transmitter is unstable! One could hear a slight wavering in BFO pitch. This might have been blamed on my FRG-7 receiver, except there was no such wavering on RCI 15235, and furthermore I heard the same thing on another receiver, and further2more, the same wavering appeared on DW`s next frequency, 15205 which came on at *2059 and then into English, and further3more, the same wavering was on the // DW English frequency from Rwanda,
11865, but not on other 25mb stations. What could cause this? Perhaps an unreliable power supply at Kigali?
All the frequencies were loud and clear in AM mode, and you would never know there was such a problem without the BFO on.

Remember, DW Arabic at 1700-2057 is scheduled to move from 15420 to 15445 starting Saturday May 10, and all will be on the better beam for us, 325 degrees. Will WBCQ then resume 15420 as planned for A-08, ex-17495 where we still heard it today? But there would still be a collision with various BBC sites between 1300 and 1700, not as big a problem in NAm as DW has been, and WBCQ wants to run this transmitter starting at 1300 with no frequency change for the next 10 hours
(Glenn Hauser, OK, USA - dxldyg 06/05/2008)

Tried again today (May 7) for CVC Zambia on 13590.
At 1530 a decent signal with lots of pop-music, "1Africa"
id's and their phone number for listeners to call.
All wiped off at 1545 when BVB signed on.
Amusing, how different can programming be between
these two religious stations.

I was not expecting to hear much besides WBCQ on 7 MHz as early as 2008 UT May 5, and that was pretty poor, but there was also a US preacher with apparent Bible reading in English on 7430, at least as strong as WBCQ but with flutter. This chex out as YFR via Kishinyov, scheduled at 20-22, 500 kW, 309 degrees toward us but intended for W Europe only. SF=68, K=3 at 21 (Glenn Hauser, OK, USA - dxldyg 06/05/2008)

Перу
5039.2 PERU. Radio Libertad (Junin) (Presumed), 1055-1057,
5/1/2008, Spanish. Talk by man. Very weak signal in heavy static,
at noise threshold. May have changed to music, but signal too weak
to be certain. (Jim Evans, TN, USA = CumbreDX 03/05/2008)

4974.74, Radio Del Pacifico, 1000-1030 Sometimes I can hear a faint
signal of audio whenever there's a fading in, but usually during the period, just the
carrier is audible.
For example, at 1024 music was heard briefly then it faded away. It is
interesting to note that CODAR is not audible here, on most of the band between 4700 to
4950. Not until around 4970 can it be heard once in awhile. Conditions are really bad this morning.
(Chuck Bolland, Clewiston, FL, USA - dxldyg 05/05/2008)

6019.41, Radio Victoria, 0829-0840 Without any interference at this
time, noted a
program of live religious comments from a male and females giving their
testimony. Heard
words such as, "Gloria Dios", "Hallelujah" and, "Lima". Signal was very
good at this
hour. At 0859, Radio Nederland comes up with IS blocking Victoria which was
still at
a good level until then. (Chuck Bolland, Clewiston, FL, USA, May 6, 2008)

4974.79, Radio Del Pacifico, (pres), 0930-1000 Noted a carrier here,
but initially no
audio heard. After setting here for 15 minutes or so, the audio began to
fade in just so
slightly. Low and behold, it was the "weeping preacher" in his usual
emotional broadcast. As mentioned however, the audio was very weak and if
the comments had been at a normal level instead of at an oratorial level, I
doubt if would have heard anything? Signal was
threshold. (Chuck Bolland, Clewiston, FL, USA, May 6, 2008)

4790.2, Radio Vision, Chiclayo, 0520-0545, 07-05, canciones religiosas,

1. Вчера на частоте 11670 кГц в 19:40 поймал Немецкую Волну на арабском

(Jim, U.K. = udxf 03/05/2008)

here are some of my and ALF's logging from the last days.

Varna Radio show up on 5559 kHz with the usual channel-free marker
of their ARQ/FEC frequencies, later with a traffic list. 5559 kHz
is in the middle of 5MHz aero-band. A spurious or by mistake, but I
remember to read some years ago in WUN about a similar transmission by
LZW on this band, but I can't the matching email. No WUN archive
available... Maybe "this" LZW were no "mistake" but a "special mission"
for any Bulgarian "station"? Just an idea, while I think more that the
technician in Varna just pushed the wrong button ;-)

Any idea about the US MIL "single letter"-callsign net on 6703 kHz,
was there for at least 2-3 nights. Any USN battle group around ?

Any idea about these unid Arab voice nets on 6742 and 6826 kHz ?
There are a lot of them, most of them sounds more as "private" chat
groups, but a least these two are "official styles" operations,
any NGO/GO or "company" links ?? I seems that sadly we haven't any
Arabic speakers in our group. I thinl a lot of interestings nets
waiting to be discovered...

BTW, the CW-marker on 6996.5 kHz was still on over the last days.
That should be a real channel-marker with a fixed format of 043 V's
and 6 dots. No short tuning test... and since some days I can't
hear the voice mirrows (tapes) of Olympia Radio, did they went QRT on
30-Apr/1-May? Could get a long Greek infocast (?) on 8776 kHz but no
voice mirrow on 8734 kHz. That one was a nice beacon, propagation
indicator for me ...

Anyone known to which fleet the Ukrainian short station "Kiev radio"
(UWS3) belongs. That one seems not to be an open public coastal stn,
but for a fleet - a company station??

Another CW station could be seen on 6240 kHz with a long open text in
French, sadly too weak to copy it's message topics.
That was the second French text CW station, after that one on
8000 kHz on 24 April... From the first idea it looked not like these
"French Military" NATO-message styled operations which we monitored
some months ago. The two recent ones gave much longer texts as the
"French" did. Maybe any African MIL ?

Any comments ?

73, Tom

here are some recent loggings from ALF and me.

Any idea about 6590 kHz, any "official" net from South
America for sure. Maybe our SA members knows?

Varna Radio's FEC transmission in the air-band on 5559 kHz
were still on. I don't think it's a spurious, but...
Another "wrong" channel was Shannon Volmet on 6826.5 kHz,
here with a very bad modulation.

The 6703 kHz US MIL net was also active over the last night.
It sounded like a "group" and not a net different independent "units".
The OPs are ver used to each others, with some informal chats in between
(talks about the "enemy" & "Yeh, thats nice..." by the NCS etc).
That's not usual for e.g. multinational MIL exercises (here in Europe).

"Great" question: I have some problems with the exact frequency for
Russian Navy's PSK/12-tone/120 Bd. AT-3004D-modem circuits. For the
logs I use the "best sounding" (for my ear) on USB. But I'm sure
I will be absolutely wrong...hi Therefore I gave the frequenies
with an "a" (approx.). "My" given freq it show 1st tone centered at
USB 650Hz. The 10 MHz channel shows a cont. "tone" on 300Hz
(not sure if related, not seen on the other two 12-tone links.)

See: 9049.8 & 9134.8 kHz - seems to be a a duplex pair of any
CIS MIL, maybe UKR, but not sure...

73, Tom

BTW: Olympia Radio is back on 8734 kHz, ufffff ;-)

here are some recent loggings from ALF and me.

Varna was still active on 5559 kHz.

Any idea who are EURI and ILA of the Algerian Customs net?
EURI = HQ Algiers = DGD ?

Any comments to any of the logs?

and finally here the recent ALE-loggings from ALF ;-)

See the following new UNIDs
- BA3 to PI3 on 6743 kHz !
- BS01 & BS02 on 6851 kHz

If the complete calling circle could be received I decided to
give more details, like "How many TO-frames" etc.
As I think each net-"system administrator" have his own "paramater"
which he may use for all stations of his net. That might help to
see any relations between new UNIDs and "known" ones.
I hope my idea is correct?
I never sit in front of such a commercial ALE-box, so I don't know which
parameters might be possible to programm by the SYSOP?
And I never saw any "User/SYSOP handbook".
So maybe my idea is nonsense...hi
An example is the BS01-log below.
Does it make any sense for us to log these details? Comments?

Any idea about the "9201"-net? So far I have this one on:
8041, 8054 and 8063 kHz together with the idents
"9046", "9056", "0000" and "9641";
while 9056 or 9046 were logged on 6630, 6820, 8057 and 9230 kHz before
(with 9001, 9216, 963_, 0000, 1003 and 303_).
Seems to be quite a large net, but with few activity only.
Some "idents" could be seen in the past on frequencies (4140/historic?, 6583, 8180 kHz - plus ??) of the F001-Net
(3001, 4001, 5001, 6001, 7001, 8001, 9001, 9066, 9633 etc.).
Could be again a co-using or maybe this 9FFF-net is related to them.
Both are not "very active" and both are "same" weak.
Maybe any African net?
I attach my "very open" working paper at the end of this message.
These two (?) net/s are one of my "difficults" and main targets.
Maybe anybody else has some additions? comments? ideas?

Is the HF1S9 >< TX8 link on duplex ? See the los on 6825 kHz

Interesting is the "Austrian" aero station 6699.9 kHz.
Sounded like Air Force, but I can`t find any info about
any Austrian AF HF operation before. It was for sure not
the GAF DHM91 which also using this channel. Sadly the callsign
were spoken to quick and in "Austrian accent", hard to understand
for ALF ;-) The aircraft did a phone-patch via ?? to "Dispatch"
asking if they should return because the "cooling chain for their
medicine was broken due to the fact that the fridge was not plugged in.
The OP-chat after the pp was in "Austrian German", not in English
as mostly done by the GAF. Could be any Austrian private MEDEVAC
airline too, but sounded "more" like MIL. Anyyyyyy ideas???

Refer to the USAR AFG TF on 5500 kHz:
--------------------------------------
I'm afraid I have to correct my previsios ID of EAGOPS
from ex "TF Eagle" to "TF Eagle Assault", sorry !
Always re-think any ID ;-))

While "TF Eagle" is more a fighting unit with paratroopers etc.
most USARAvn ALE stations we could get are "more" medicals
and MEDEVACs. Therefore "TF Eagle Assault" should be a much
better ID!

After re-checking the web I found now the article
www.fortcampbellcourier.com/articles/2008/04/04/news/doc47f549e0186de477527382.txt
which wrote about a training programme for Afghan national army
air corps flight medics:

> "This program started with Task Force Corsair [82nd Airborne Division]
> said ... flight surgeon for Task Force Eagle Assault ..."

TF Corsair was COROPS earlier active on 5500 kHz too.

TF Eagle Assault "belongs" to the 101st Combat Aviation Brigade,
101st Airborne Division. Another TF of them is the
"TF No Mercy" of FOC Salerno.

Hope my ID is right now (after I spotted them as TF Eagle earlier),
comments ??

And
www.fortcampbellcourier.com/articles/2008/05/01/news/doc481a2677033c6579008653.txt
gave

> "... 101st Airborne Division, 101st Combat Aviation Brigadea€™s
> Task Force No Mercy, a multi-functional task force which assumed
> control of aviation operations at Salerno in January" ...
> ... run three FARPs [Forward Arming and Refueling Points] 24/7,
> one here, one in Ghazni and one at Orgun-E ...

That matches with MEROPS and MERJMP which show up for the first
time in January 2008 on 5500 kHz. "Now" only MEROPS could be logged
(together with EAGOPS) on 5500. So, we "should" have IDed these
two also, right ?
MEROPS should be at their "HQ" at FOB Salerno, while MERJMP ("Jumper"?)
could be one of their "outposts"?

Still 5500 kHz-unids from this year are OUTFRT, SHAOPS and CAVOPS.

OUT FRT= Outpost / Forward Refueling Team?

SHAOPS = TF Shadow? Not much new found about this one, except older
pages about a KFOR deployment, only on myspace:
http://profile.myspace.com/index.cfm?fuseaction=user.viewprofile&friendID=82312416

> "...I am a pilot for the US Army. I'm stationed in Ft. Campbell Kentucky
> ... I'm in Afghanistan for the next 15 months ...
> A Co. 1-101 CAB/Task Force Shadow ..." (page is updated in May 2008)

Again a 101 CAB. Should be a positive ID for SHAOPS ? ;-))

Whats about CAVOPS ? No ideas so far

... and any further comments to any of these logs??

Last night I made a PERSEUS recording from 200 - 600 kHz.
Though the best of the DX season is over by now, still a number of
Canadian NDB's could be heard.
I have taken the trouble to do a thorough investigation of the propgation
to find the best listening time.

First the log:

Following is a list of the time when a station appeared on the band:

QY-263 23:55 UTC
YHR-276 00:15 UTC
QX-280 00:05 UTC
CA-281 02:15 UTC
YY-340 03:15 UTC
DF-350 00:00 UTC
AY-356 00:25 UTC
JT-390 03:45 UTC
JC-396 00:55 UTC

Most early stations were audible for one hour after they became audible.
QY-263 was audible almost all night and the only one that still could be
heard 10 minutes after local sunrise at 04:07 UTC.
A number of stations disappeared complety between 01:30 and 02:30.
However, all stations could be logged between 35 and 15 minutes before
local sunrise.
In fact JT-390 could only be logged after I found this.

This little research confirms my earlier findings that generally speaking,
starting listening half an hour before local sunrise seems to be best for
Canadian NDB's from my location.

Канада
For the first time that I recall, I see an application by the CRTC
to use new frequencies at Sackville NB for RCI/CBC Northern Service:

Sackville, New Brunswick
Application No. 2008-0567-4

Application by the Canadian Broadcasting Corporation (CBC) to amend
the licence of the shortwave radio programming undertaking CKCX
Sackville, New Brunswick.

The CBC proposes to add the following three additional frequencies:

7310 kHz, 7325 kHz and 7345 kHz.

The CBC advises that the frequencies will be used a few hours a day
and only during certain months of the year.

<http://www.crtc.gc.ca/archive/ENG/Notices/2008/pb2008-39.htm>

Yes, Sackville does have the official callsign of CKCX but it is rarely
id ever used.

I wonder why the CRTC is involved here - usually only Industry Canada
is involved with regard to the frequencies used at Sackville.

You can read the actual application letter here:
<http://www.crtc.gc.ca/public/broad/applications/2008/2008-0567-4.PDF>

США
Today is 40th anniversary of Chicago’s popular WBBM Newsradio 780. There's a special site with lots of interesting audio files, pics and videos: http://www.cbsdigitalchicago.com/wbbm-am/history/. Here's a brief schedule of anniversary events: http://www.wbbm780.com/We-re-Turning-The-Big-4-0—Help-Celebrate-40-Year/2084570 . If you happened to be in Chicago today (Daley Plaza) you can get a piece of birthday cake. It's free. And if you are not, well, you can listen to WBBM online. You don't have to pay for that,
either :)

- не перебрасывают ли они рапорты из России в рускую редакцию МР Китая;
- стоит ли писать на бумаге на 2 Fuxingmenwai Dajie, Xicheng Qu, Beijing
100866 (как в WRTH), или есть другие работающие способы;
- можно ли убедить их указать на подтверждениях местонахождение передатчика.
- можно ли до тайваньской службы (5 и 6 программы ЦНР) достучаться как-то
отдельно.
- и интересно, что означают названия этих 5/6 программ (в WRTH Voice of
Zhonghua и Voice of Shenzhou соответственно)? Какие-то памятные
географические места, куда тайваньцам непременно захочется вернуться,
или...? (Дмитрий Мезин, Казань, Россия - open_dx 04/05/2008)
