Мы формируем новый стиль и новое наполнение журнала. VOCABULARY
1. Ladies and gentlemen, may I have your attention please! - повторим из 80-го выпуска, т.к. по-русски так даже и не подумаешь.
2. Do you have a girlfriend yet? – у тебя уже есть девушка?
3. Married yet? - лаконичнее. Женился уже?
4. We are certain that he was set up – мы уверены, что его подставили.
Еще пример: I’m not to blame. I’ve been set up – я не виноват, меня подставили.
5. As I read your view point - и так пишут. В Lingvo есть перевод «point of view» - точка зрения. Оказывается, можно и переставить слова.
6. I would say that you are so confused yourself and what you are saying is confusing many other people. – Я бы сказал, что Вы себя очень запутали и то, что Вы говорите, сбивает с толку многих других людей.
7. He’s screwed up - в Lingvo несколько переводов. Знакомые носители языка используют в значении «напортачить в чем-л».
8. He is not a happy bunny – не везет человеку.
9. Happiness is optional – тоже из разговоров носителей языка. Употребляется в контексте «делай что тебе говорят».
10. Half-baked stories – неправдоподобные (слабоумные) рассказы, болтовня.
11. Don’t give up - не сдавайся. На этом жизнеутверждающем заявлении мы закончим этот раздел.

GRAMMAR
verb + ing or verb + to

When one verb follows another verb, the structure is usually verb + -ing or verb + to

Often we use -ing for an action that happens before the first verb or at the same time:
They denied stealing the money
I enjoy going out

Often we use to.. for an action that follows the first verb:
They decided to steal the money
I want to go out.

This difference does not explain all uses of -ing and to.. .

There are two possible structures after advise, recommend, encourage, allow, permit, forbid.
Compare:
verb + -ing (without an object)
I wouldn't recommend staying in that hotel.
She doesn't allow smoking in the house.

verb + object + to..
I wouldn't recommend anybody to stay in that hotel.
She doesn't allow us to smoke in the house.

Compare these examples with (be) allowed (passive):
Smoking isn't allowed in the house.
We aren't allowed to smoke in the house.

If a preposition (in/for/about/before, after, by, without) is followed by a verb, the verb ends in -ing.
For example:
Before going out, I phoned Sarah.
I ran ten kilometers without stopping.
They climbed through the window without anybody seeing them. (or .. without being seen).
She needs to work without people disturbing her.
It's nice to go on holiday without having to worry about money.

JETS
Jet planes have only been around for the last 60 years or so. In that time, they have generally replaced propeller engines on larger aircraft and now push planes farther, higher, and faster then ever before.
The first jet planes appeared just before World War II.
Messerschmidt 262, a German fighter, was called the “swallow” because of its swept-back wings.
The first jet airliner was the De Haviland Comet. Its first passenger flight was in 1952. Since then, thousands of jet airliners have been built to carry people all over the world.
Concorde is the fastest passenger aircraft in the world. It can fly at twice the speed of sound and at a height of 59000 feet (18000 meters), and can cross the Atlantic in just over three hours.
Stealth fighter's funny shape actually makes it invisible to radar. This allows the plane to attack enemy positions without being spotted.
The Harrier jump-jet can take off and land vertically and hover in mid-air. It can take off from a small forest clearing or from the desk of a small ship. It's called the "hovering plane".
How it works
A jet engine works by taking in air from in front. Fuel is then added to this air and set alight. The hot gases then shoot out of the back of the jet engine, pushing the engine forward and the plane with it.

PHRASAL VERBS
Go ahead
Существует много значений этого словосочетания, и приводить их все, по меньшей мере, нецелесообразно. Одно из самых распространенных значений go ahead - вперёд!; не задерживай!; продолжай!
We’ve got the green light. We can go ahead and make the changes we wanted.

I have a question about the usage of articles. In Chapter 6 of Gone with the Wind I read, "There was a startled silence and then the buzzing broke out again. India rose tiredly from her seat beneath the arbor and went toward the angry Stuart Tarleton." Why is "the" put before a name of a person? Mikhail Tchudin.
The use of a definite article is possible when a proper noun is modified by an adjective (or participle) denoting a TEMPORARY state or activity.
e.g.: the crying Sarah, the calculating Smith, etc.
