The owner of Planet Lotus, Yancy Lent, asked me yesterday if he should move this site to "Planet Sharepoint" instead. At first I thought it was a joke, but it turns out he has a sister site just like the Lotus one that's only for SharePoint feeds.
Anyway, I said no, don't move it, as the SharePoint posts on here are likely to be short-lived, sporadic and intermingled with Lotus postings. And that, either way, they're of interest to the readers of the Lotus stuff as they're written by a Domino developer.
However, he seems quite insistent and hinted that he'd have to "de-list" me in the interim and asked if I thought was "fair". To which I said, no, I didn't think it was fair. Not unfair on me, but on the users who've grown to rely on his site as their one-stop source of Lotus postings.
If he de-lists me what happens then? Do the visitors I'd lose (7% of my hits) assume I've fallen off the face of the earth? Or do they then have to remember to check here directly or via RSS instead.
It all stinks a bit of control-freakery to me. Expecting to be able compartmentalise a list of blogs in to one bag is bound to be an impossible task. If he didn't have a Planet SharePoint site would his email ever have arrived I wonder?
Yancy said that was I was doing was like:
Coming to a Manchester United forum to talk about Arsenal.
But it's not though is it. Nothing is ever that black and white and his analogy just doesn't work.
What I said to Yancy is:
Do what you like though, I'm not really that bothered. I just think you're doing a dis-service to your visitors.
I also said:
I talk about what I'm doing at the time. Right now it's Sharepoint. Next month it could be something amazing with Domino. Who knows.
What I'm getting round to saying is that if you trust Planet Lotus as the definitive source of Lotus blog posts then maybe you need to be aware that what you're reading is being dictated to you.
I don't know what he's planning on doing, but wanted to make you aware of what he might do. If you're a Planet Lotus visitor and see no posts from me in the coming days or weeks then you know why. Might I suggest you use RSS or Twitter instead.
I put a quick survey here to see if you think what he's suggesting is a good idea. Let the people decide I say.
In 8.5.1, if you right-click on the sender's name in the header there is an option to Add Sender to Contacts.
However, this option is not available inside the email itself. I use previews (so it's not as big a deal for me), but many old-school users don't use previews so they have to back out of an email or remember to look under the More menu.
This should also include any name in the CC or BCC list, and be changed to "Add Person to Contacts".
If you wanted to go crazy, there are even some users who want to add people from a Reply or Forward. But I would consider that lot a bit suspect. :-)
As mentioned last week OpenNTF will

to identify new projects or to discuss the IP model. ...
It would be great to have the possibility to link users profiles to connections profiles in case of lotus connections availability. Also the possibility to have automatically the lotus connections profile business cards in case of mouse over user name in ideas.
Currently within the Resource Reservations database, the application checks the invitee count against the room capacity and warns you (via acceptance notice) that you have exceeded the room's capacity. However, this is only done on the initial entry; once the room has been booked and accepted, any invitees added later will not be recalculated.
We would like to see the application recheck the capacity whenever the invitee count changes. The chair should only be notified on the room confirmation again if the added number of invitees results in exceeding the room capacity.
Allow the crossposting of ideas to instances of the opensource status.net microblog platform. By allowing the "twitter api" uri to be configurable this would allow the ideajam platform to integrate with statusnet and other platforms that support the twitter api. This would allow private intranet ideajam instances to communicate with private instances of a microblogging platform. Pushing updates out beyond the firewall is unlikely to be deemed desirable for intranet implementations of ideajam.

The status bar in Notes client displays action buttons and messages about current status and activity. In Notes 8, several items such as Mail Quickpick and font size are not available, and there are no preferences that can be used to customize the status bar.
Users are replicating their local Contacts database with their Domino Server to support third party applications and hand held devices. They have a replicator icon for their Contacts database on the replicator page. After upgrading to Notes 8.01, 8.02, or 8.5x, they notice that the Contacts database icon is no longer on the replicator page. There is a new icon for Synchronizing Contacts, but this does not replicate with the Contacts database replica on the server.
The Citrix Password Manager is an application which monitors new windows. If a window is spawned that matches a pre-determined application definition, CPM will send the user’s credentials to the newly spawned window. In 8.0.2 and 8.5 when Lotus Notes is launched Notes steals focus from the generated CPM window.
