Producer and former pro inline skater, Dave Paine, brings the Camp Woodward action sports training experience to Fuel TV. The six episode series features the camp experiences of...
Having spoken with Aaron recently and knowing him quite well, I understand what he is doing. Here are some snippets of what he wrote; '...Talk is cheap; lies are expensive. So is equivocation, indecision, procrastination, hell; call it laziness, indiscipline, self-sabotage, personal-limitation-infliction and even self-destruction. 'F' it. Here is me... I came off the WIC 2007 on the best form of my life... well, since my snowboard accident... Then it snowed, a whole bunch, and kept snowing.
It really is tough to train properly here in Canada. We’ve been under snow basically ever since, and skating outdoors (or trying to) basically sucked...
Over the next while, I will be publishing some rather revealing, honest, untouched, un-flattering, and self-exposing pictures of myself to; in a round-about way, help keep me motivated. I don’t claim to be in shape right now, but I will be. give me a little time. I am not, and this is not about saying 'I look great', or 'look at me'. If you think that’s what I am doing, you clearly don’t know me at all, and I would probably hate you if I knew you. That’s really not the point. I’m not completely out of shape, just not where I want to be. Bare with me. This is about self-dicipline and motivation. I am taking some pretty serious risk here. Support my ass. Be critical sure, but not about my intentions.
...Maybe use it to motivate yourself. You know, symbiosis. What the hell? give me a call! Haha, ask me what I’m doing, and if it’s not ‘training, studying, eating, or sleeping’ yell at me...'.
Best Footage: Andrew's Speed Skating Blog has posted an entry with links to wonderful race videos- Best Inline Speed Skating Footage Online- the work of Isaac Papadopoulos. He writes 'If you pay attention you can see technique, style, team tactics, mistakes, crashes, interviews, ... point sprints, finishes ... and so much more'.
Silver Skate: The Silver Skate Festival is a long track event that took place this past weekend in Edmonton. PThe event, which is part of the MSI series, was won by Steven Elm with a large margin of victory on the men's side, while Paisley Perrie had to fend off two other female skaters in the last 500-meters to take the top women's spot.
What A Plug: the thread The Science of Speed eBook - NOW AVAILABLE! contains a plug for the ebook like none other that I've read before; 'I just finished browsing the copy of 'The Science of Speed'...if 'Speed on Skates' was a narrative book, this could very well be its sequel. To be honest, the humongous amount of information contained in Publow’s new publication perfectly complements the contents of his previous Speedskating’s Bible, reaching far beyond its encyclopedic intent. I’ll happily endorse this valuable publication and definitely recommend it to advanced skaters and coaches alike, as I regard it an absolutely unmissable investment: for only 30 bucks (about 20 euros, 4 pints of ale) you’ll get an overly priceless compilation of studies and articles written in plain, non-academic English although taking a sober, scientific approach. A truckload of tips&tricks, a whole lot of useful and interesting information plus a few bonus tracks and remixes meshed in makes “The Science of Speed” the other essential volume any serious adept to this sport must keep in their bookshelf'.
ING Challenge: It is time to vote for Canada's best speed skating story- check out all the voting and videos at the ING Speed Skating Challenge.
Theresa Cliff: Theresa Cliff is posting some very strong track cycling results- 'Theresa Cliff-Ryan made a new step toward her goals this weekend with upgrading her best results from 6th in a world cup to 2 bronze medals. Theresa raced a brilliant scratch race to take equal 3rd place with Russian Anastasiay Chulkova behind world champion Marianne Vos of Holland and the current world cup overall point score champion Jarmilla Machavova of Czech Republic'. Check out Team Des for more.
Weekend LT Results: For many of this past weekend's long track competition results, make sure you stop by SpeedskatingResults.
NY 100k: More information on the NYC Skate Marathon & NY 100k can be found here. The recent information clears up information about the jacket and lists age divisions.
