Announcing the Summer School and Workshop

``Cohomology and Support in Representation Theory and Related Topics''

July 27 - August 5, 2012, University of Washington, Seattle.

Description:

The theme of this two week event will be a survey of the state of the
art in the use of cohomology and supports in the study of
representation theory, commutative algebra, triangulated categories,
and various related topics. The first week (July 27-30) will be a
preparatory summer school intended for graduate students and recent
doctoral recipients. The summer school will consist of three
mini-courses accompanied by problem-solving sessions:

(1). Paul Balmer (U. of California, Los Angeles), ``Descent techniques
in modular representation theory''

(2). Dave Benson (U. of Aberdeen), ``Modules of constant Jordan type
and vector bundles on projective spaces''

(3). Srikanth Iyengar (U of Nebraska, Lincoln), ``Commutative algebra
for modular representations of finite groups''

The second week (August 1 - 5) will be a workshop consisting of talks
on the latest developments in the field.
Funding is available to support the participation of graduate students
and recent PhDs. The deadline to
apply for funding is March 19, 2012.
