Система компьютерной алгебры GAP - XX Escola de Algebra


Dear all:

The XX Escola de Algebra, the 20th edition of the biannual Brazilian meeting of algebraists, will take place at IMPA, Rio de Janeiro, from August 11 to 15, 2008.

There are MANY IMPORTANT details in this announcement, including DEADLINES, so please read on.

1) Registration: EVERYONE must register online through

http://www.impa.br/opencms/pt/eventos/store/evento_0024

NO EXCEPTIONS TAKEN. You NEED to be registered, and later PAY the registration fee to be considered for financial help from the meeting. It should take around five minutes to enter your data. The DEADLINE for registration is July 10.

The payment of the registration fee will be at IMPA on Sunday, August 10, from 14:00 to 18:30 or on Monday, August 11, from 8:00 to 10:45. The fee must be paid with a Brazilian check or cash (Brazilian currency, reais). Foreigners may pay with American dollars or euros, no other currency. NO credit or debit cards can be accepted.

2) Financial help: To be considered for it, EVERYONE must enter, when registering online, his FULL NAME, as printed on his id card or passport, his  INSTITUTE as a student or a professor, his CPF (if a Brazilian resident) or PASSPORT NUMBER AND NATIONALITY. The DEADLINE is July 10.

VERY IMPORTANT: If you will receive any financial support from a Brazilian fund during or close to the XX Escola de Algebra, be it a student scholarship with allowances for meetings, or a research project, or a research scholarship, or a bilateral agreement, or anything whatsoever involving Brazilian funds, you MUST let us know, by filling the field "Algum comentário?/Any Comment?" in the registration form, stating the TYPE OF SUPPORT, its DURATION and its ORIGIN (example: CAPES, CNPq, FAPESP, FAPERJ, MILENIO). Having already some support does not mean that you will not receive any support from us. HOWEVER, we must take care to abide by some rules to avoid giving you TROUBLE with the government.

We hope to be able to start sending messages of financial support after July 10. So, if you do not give us all the details necessary by then, you run the risk of being left out. Keep in mind that these messages will be conditioned to the fullfilment of promises made to us by funding agencies.

3) Hotels: As mentioned in the third announcement, it is up to you to make hotel arrangements for your stay. However, contrary to what was announced then, there will be a bus from the event, a single bus, that will follow the route Copacabana - Ipanema - Leblon - IMPA in the morning and back in the afternoon. Its schedule and route will be announced later. Those in hotels in Gloria, Flamengo and Botafogo may use the public bus number 409: it passes often and leaves you very close to IMPA.

4) Students: You may skip this if you are not one. So far 78 students applied for financial support, and it is becoming quite clear that we will not be able to support all. If you want to be considered for financial support, please enter all the information asked in 2 above, PLUS: fill the field "Orientador/Advisor" in the registration form with the name of your advisor or of anyone that can write in your support. Don't forget to inform us of his or her email address. Finally, ask him or her to send a reference letter on your support to alginrio@impa.br. The DEADLINE is July 10. (Those listed to present posters or give talks need only give the information asked in 2 above.)

Failure to comply with the rules here and in 2 above will mean no chance of getting any money from the meeting. Likewise, if we don't receive any reference letter supporting you your chances of getting funded are minimal.

5) Other Participants: Only those that are not students, and are not listed to give a talk, to lecture a minicourse, or to present a poster, and want to be considered for financial help, need read this. If this is your case, please send me a personal message to alginrio@impa.br stating why you feel this meeting is right for you and why you are applying for funds. Keep in mind though that we will have very little money available for people in your situation.
