Антарктика
Tho I am still awaiting a reply from Voz Cristiana about
my suggestion they clear 15475 at least for the three hours it is used by
LRA-36 Antarctica, I checked April 8 after 1900 to confirm whether their
Brasilian service from Chile was still on 15475. Yes; not very strong here, but
thats not the point. Recheck at 2003 and still heard, and this time I was able
to detect a het/carrier on 15476, likely the much put-upon Radio Nacional
Arcangel San Gabriel, Base Esperanza, struggling, whether its operators are
aware of it or not, to be audible, at least in South America, against the
evangelical behemoth. Another problem is that Africa Number One, Gabon, is
still scheduled on 15475 at 1600-1900. As has been the case for many seasons
now, that too blocks LRA-36 for the first hour of its only broadcast, at
1800-2100. But the 45 degree signal from Santiago across Brasil is very likely
also to interfere with ANO in its target area of N & W Africa. Frequencies are
NOT that scarce, especially on the higher bands. The three of them COULD be on
three, different, clear, frequencies. If I were LRA-36, Id get out of the way
to a clear frequency higher in the band, those three hours, and let the other
two fight it out. But RNASG is apparently one of those quasi-domestic,
crystal-controlled stations assigned to a specific frequency, not easy to
change either technically or administratively. So give them and their would-be
listeners a break (Glenn Hauser, OK, dxldyg 381)

A nx item Caribbean Relay station in Antigua, operated by the
BBC and Deutsche Welle is now permanently off the air. Confirmed, March 31
during the BBC's English lang Caribbean morning sce on 15190 kHz. Nothing
heard here on that frequency, so my guess is that this one was not re-
allocated to another relay site like Sackville in Canada, or Kouru [sic]
in French Guiana. Possible reason for mothballing the two [sic; I thought
it was four gh] 250 kiloWatt txs and antennas. Again not confirmed, may be
just another cost cutting measure, in favor of more TV satellite time by
both stations.

Армения
Public Radio of Armenia noted on new 9775 parallel to 4810 April 5th
with External Service in presumed Armenian 1715-1745, French 1745-1805,
German 1805-1825 and English 1825-1845. 11640 was also announced but not
heard. Strong on 9775, fair on 4810. (Mike Barraclough - CumbreDX 1088)

Беларусь
Radio Station Belarus English now heard 1930-2000 on 7105 7280,
Monday, Tuesdays, Thursdays and Fridays, 1170 also announced. Their on
air announcements say their transmissions in various languages are
1900-2200 but then go on to give the English times as 2130-2200. A Sunday English
broadcast to Europe is announced as at 2300 so I would guess it is at
2100-2130. The station announces North American transmissions 0100-0300
on 5970 7210 with English 0400-0430 except Wednesday and Sunday, 0430
Sundays,probably at 0200 and 0230 respectively.
(Mike Barraclough via Hans Johnson - CumbreDX 1086)

Radio Belarus heard this evening in English at 1930-2000 UTC on
1170, 7105 and 7280 kHz. As usual station annts gave the times as two
hours ahead of UTC and the web site is also a real muddle with what
appears to be the winter time grid, although with the correct A05 freqs.

The full English schedule may now be something like this:

1930-2000 Mon.Tue.Thurs.Fri on 1170, 7105, 7280 kHz
2100-2130 Sundays on 1170, 7105, 7280 kHz
0100-0130 Mon.Tue.Wed.Fri.Sat on 5970, 7210 kHz
0130-0200 Sundays on 5970, 7210 kHz

Can anyone confirm the freqs for the 0100/0130 txions
(or is it 0200/0230 ?)

7400 R. Varna tried this one from Florida at 2230, didn't like
the reception, so I tuned over to a DX Tuner in Europe where the reception
was much better.
2240 with music, then talk by two men in presumed Bulgarian. 2250
more music, traditionally sounding music. 2300 ID for Horizont, a news
network, five time pips and news. 2303 and a half ID for Radio Varna.
Interview with woman after this news who did some impromptu singing.
Their website of www.radiovarna.com is worth a look as it has an
English section with a history of the station. (Thanks to the WRTH for
their website address). The WRTH also says that this weekly SW relay
is a special program for ships in the Black Sea. I did find it to be
in // to the R. Varna audio stream on their website.

4796.42, Radio Mallku, 1003-1011, Again chatter in a local language

muffled. Possible ID at 1007 because it was garbled by condx./ Signal was
also poor. (Chuck Bolland, April 7, 2005 - CumbreDX 1089)

6105.49, Radio Panamericana 1027-1043 I was setting on the freq
and a carrier popped up at 1027. Immediately, Radio Panamericana was
audible with the program already in progress. After a couple of minutes for
warmup of the transmitter, the signal faded in to a good level until about
1044 when it began to fade out. Noted Spanish comments between a man and
woman with an ID of sorts, "... en Panamericano ..." at 1031. After the

Венесуэла
Tried monitoring the opening of RNV via Cuba on 13680,
April 8. No spy-numbers this day either; around 1957 tune-in, there was already
music of some sort, but that was cut off around 1959 for the RNV IS to start
at
2000. Introduced a programa mixto and usual Apartado 3979, 10-10 Caracas
address (from which P-mail bounces), but no transmission schedule, and I was
unwilling to keep listening much longer for it, in the unlikely event it has
been actualized at this late date (Glenn Hauser, dxldyg 381)

Гаити
My previous scenario about the collision on 11895 at 2200
between NHK via French Guiana in Japanese, and VOA via Delano in Creole turned
out to be too optimistic, based on what happened last summer, when after a Week
of Confusion (and Collision), the VOA broadcast shifted one UT hour earlier to
2100, ending the problem. Well past the WOC this year, when rechecked April 8,
BOTH broadcasts were still at 2200 on 11895 and mixing at approximately equal
levels here! The posted VOA language schedule for Creole this A-season still
shows 2200 with no mention of shifting an hour earlier. Did Haiti not go on DST
this year? According to timeanddate.com they did, on April 3 just like us,
spelled U-S. Did IBB forget to make the shift, or decide not to bother, which
would suit us just as well if it were not for this collision? Tipping me to
recheck this was the open carrier heard on 21555 well before 2200, not 2100,
which could only be the VOA \\ frequency for the Creole broadcast, also Delano,
and indeed it was after 2200. How long will it take one or both stations to
come to their senses? If not in seven days, seven months? I have reason to
believe IBB reads DXLD, but perhaps not carefully enough.

R. Cairo heard on new 11885, English to North America, ID at
2354 April 3 in the presumed 2300-2430 broadcast; somewhat muddy
modulation, but good signal and no interference. Recheck 2403 with
dead air, then al-kitab, al-kitab so presumably bookish Arabic
lesson. Lets hope this is not a punchup error for 11855 where they
were last summer and were blocked by WYFR, as they would be now.
However, this may soon have some adjacent interference; see ECUADOR

Radio 24-7 to be launched in the next three weeks

Harare - The government of Zimbabwe will soon launch a new 24-hour
propaganda shortwave radio station to counter negative coverage from
independent radio stations broadcasting from outside the country. New
Ziana's Electronic Services Business Unit boss, Happison Muchechetere,
confirmed to Zim Online that the government will launch the station, to be
called Radio 24-7, in the next three weeks to counter United Kingdom and
United States-based radio stations targeting Zimbabweans. "On short wave, we
will be accessible to people within Zimbabwe and those abroad where our
signal will reach," said Muchechetere. SW Africa Radio and the United
States-based Studio 7, are the only independent radio stations targeting
Zimbabweans. There are no independent radio stations operating in Zimbabwe
were the Harare authorities keep a tight leash on the media. Critics accuse
the state-controlled Zimbabwe Broadcasting Corporation (ZBC) of churning out
virulent propaganda against the government's perceived political opponents.
The new radio station, is expected to take Zimbabwe's propaganda war to a
new foreign arena against the two independent radio stations. There have
already been attempts to clog SWAfrica Radio's network with the station
complaining last month that the Zimbabwe government had jammed its
transmission networks from London. Zimbabwe has always described the two
stations as "pirate radio" aimed at creating divisions in the country.

9955 Looking at WRMI's schedule, I see that there is just one
anti-Castro program during the week now, Foro Militar Cubano
at 1200 on Fridays only.
Jamming continues though when this channel has Spanish

English relay from WRN, but jammed by 1100 when the station had
a Spanish religious program. (Hans Johnson April 7 - CumbreDX 1089)

The Brother Stair service of WWCR has made a frequency adjustment;
April 8 at 2153, The Last Days Prophet of God was on new 9975 leaving Cairo in
the clear on 9990, but at 2158 WWCR-4 QSYed to 9985 before Cairos
English-to-Europe was finished, as it runs to 2245. The current WWCR schedule,
revised April 4, shows 9975 in use at 18-22, with 9985 before and after. If
WWCR is trying to accommodate Cairo, they should really stay away from 9990
another hour (Glenn Hauser, dxldyg 381)

Checked out WHRAs latest frequency change, to 11765, April 8 at 2100

Unfortunately, RHC was stronger on adjacent 11760. That would be their English
to Europe, but 11760 was off after 2130. It appears that WHR is making a
concerted effort to use more inband and fewer outband frequencies

Well, I can now confirm that the station on
5895 is Radio Peace. On 6 Apr at 1655
the frequency was clear without the ute.
Couple of minutes later rather strong carrier
appeared and then there was that usual
canned id "Thank you for listening to Radio Peace".
Into English religious program and at 1715 into local

It seems the signal is undermodulated and so it
is rather difficult to hear them clearly.
On 5 Apr I was a bit late in monitoring, but noted them
at 1717 with local language and sign-off was also
then around 1723. Hopefully we'll soon get info which transmitter site
is in use on 5895. (Jari Savolainen - Hard-Core-DX 28, 7)

24 hours after my last report, I was listening carefully
to HCJB Spanish on 11710 at 2359 UT April 3: the ID definitely claimed
to be on 11880 for the Americas and 21455 for the Pacific, even tho it
was still on 11710. Dont they ever listen to their own broadcasts, at
least to know what frequency they are on? No reply yet to my inquiry
as to whether 11880 is about to replace 11710, which today I was not
hearing at 2100 or 2200, but after 2300. If and when 11880 comes up,
it will then be a problem for Egypt, q.v., which unexpectedly appeared
on 11885, and also squeezed by Habana on 11875.

This is the first time a real, 100% new station
has started transmissions from my home town Quito
for many many years. Some stations have changed
owner or name so it?s very nice to present this
new station. The recording is from their very
first transmission that started today 2310 UTC.

Some months ago I talked to the station, they
said they were going to start transmiting the
first week in march with name "MegaSonido Nuevo
Milenio". But as I understand from this
transmission the name is "Radio Alegre" with ID?s
"Radio Alegre 14-90" or just "Alegre 14-90".
Jingle: "La radio de la gente fel?z". Mixed music
with Ecuadorian music and "musica tropical".

531 Faroes MW tx off air? This report in the current
Radio Magazine presumably refers to the MW tx on 531 kHz: "It is thought
that it could take as long as six months before the AM tx on Akraberg will
be back in working condition. A key part of the transmitting equipment has
broken down and currently no replacement part is available in the Faroes.
Faroese Telecom, which is responsible for the maintenance of the tx,
claims that it has requested funding for the replacement part in the past
two years which has been denied by the Ministry of Trade and Industry who
own the tx. The ministry claims that Faroese Telecom has had the money to
have purchased if five times since 2000".

CLANDESTINE (Somalian)
12130 Radio Horyaal 1731-1800 Apr. 2 Noted a very strong carrier
at 1725, with 800 hertz tones ( marker for a Russian Transmitter) Dead
air, till 1731, sign-on in mid-sentance with opening talks with a
up-beat music played in the background. Went into a short Qu'ran Verse
at 1732.
This was followed with news in what sounded like Amharic, with
references to Somalia. This was followed at 1744 in what sounded like a
live speech event, with male announcer giving a Microphone ( you could
hear the microphone being handled) broadcast, many voices in the
background (shouting / yelling) At 1756 hrs finally heard the key words
...Radio.... Horyaal..Horyaal....( yelled by the crowd) 1758 Short
selection of Horn of Africa Music, few comments, then back to this live
or taped event. At 17591/2 hrs. there was a short musical
selection,,but again cut in sentence, off at 18001/2 , with carrier off
few seconds later.
I noted no address or contact information during this broadcast.
Initially, the audio was a bit muffled, but mid-way through the
broadcast, copy was near perfect, with a nice s7-s8 signal.
Checking their web site www.halganews.com caught my attention the key
word in their web site 'halgan' . Noting this, there was a Radio Halgan,
a anti-Somlian Clandestine station, with Transmitters in Ethiopia, which
was on the air mid-80's (1987 when I heard them) According to what was
written on the QSL Reply, Radio Halgan, was the Voice of the Somalian
Opposition "SSDF" and "SNM", establishing Somalia as a democratic
state. The card was signed by a A.Rashid A'sed, and the contact office
at that time was a P.O. Box 1686 in Addis Abba, Ethiopia. Wondering if
this organization developed into into this movement now.

12130 Radio Horyaal *1730 ---- Apr. Noted with the test tones (800
hertz) at 1725. Sign-on with Up-Beat Horn of Africa Musical selection,
sign-on in Amharic by both Female and Male announcers. A clear ID was
noted for 'Radio Horyaal' and gave the web site as www.horyaal.com.
Followed with a short Qu'ran verse, then into station and opening
information at 1732, followed with news and information clips with
interviews. Signal was quite strong, full s6-s7 level, with almost
'armchair' copy. Recording this while I'm typing this report.

CLANDESTINE from BULGARIA? to IRAN 11575 KRSI following up
on the Observer report, this is KRSI (Sedeye Iran) reactivated. Looks
like they wanted SW after all, they had reported before that they had dropped
SW in favor of the Internet.
1528 with singing chorus. 1530 formal sign on with ID by man
and mentioning their website, their Hotbird feed, and what I think was
their SW frequency as there was a mention of "kilohertz."
Then talk by the same man which continued till I tuned out at
1545. Fair to Fairly good signal in Europe.
No jamming, wonder if the Iranians don't know they are back yet?
This one was always jammed before.
There was another station underneath them, quite weak, not sure
who this was. (Hans Johnson April 7 - CumbreDX 1089)

RTE are testing a new Optimod 9200 with version 3 software on 252 Long Wave
over the next days/weeks and are looking for reception reports which can be
sent via www.rte.i.e. (Digital Spy).

4 March 2005
RTE are currently using 300kw daytime 100kw nightime on 252, they've just
added a new Optimod audio processor, so the audio is now much louder which
should help with DX' ing the station outside Europe.

It sounds much better and should greatly improve reception of RTE Radio 1 in
the UK (Paul Strickland, Longwave Message Board)

In regard to the failure of the Akraberg transmitter on 531 in mid-March
there have been circulating some press items from the last weeks in the DX
press that are no longer valid. The MW transmitter was put back on the air
on 22 March. At first it was expected that it might take between 3 and 6
months to bring the MW transmitter back into service, but then a new tube
was bought in France and arrived in Torshavn on 20 March. The tube was
placed at the MW transmitter by Foroya Tele staff (Foroya Tele is the
operator of this tx) and the tx resumed its regular service.

I heard the station on 5500 kHz at 1455 UT January 20. I was surprised
that new freq 7515 kHz is listed in the letter. But, it's not sure they
really use 7515 instead of 6350 kHz. Not heard on both freqs last night.
