1. New words:

coffin ['kfin] - гроб;

a wooden coffin - деревянняй гроб;
a black coffin - гроб черного цвета;
count's coffin - гроб графа;
an expensive coffin - дорогой гроб;
to touch the coffin - дотронуться до гроба.

key [ki:] - ключ;

key word - ключевое слово;
find the key - найти ключ;
The keys are ready. - Ключи готовы.

2. Если слово заканчивается на -y, перед которой стоит гласная, то для образования множественного числа нужно просто добавить -s: key - keys; play - plays; turkey - turkeys; day - days и подобные слова:

holiday - holidays;
birthday - birthdays;
Monday ['mndi] - Mondays;
Tuesday [tju:zdi] - Tuesdays - вт;
Wednesday ['wenzdi] - Wednesdays - ср;
Thursday ['zdi] - Thursdays - чт;
Friday ['fraidi] - Fridays - пт;
Saturday ['stdi] - Saturdays - cб;
Sunday ['sndi] - Sundays - вс.

В уроке 39 мы встречались со словом just [st] в значении "только что". Но у него есть и другое значение

just [st] - как раз;

I will do just as you need.
- Я сделаю как раз так, как тебе надо.

She kissed me just then and I shivered.
- Как раз в тот момент она поцеловала меня, и я вздрогнул.

The shop is just around the corner.
- Магазин как раз за углом.

Если у слова <never - никогда> убрать первую n-, то получится

ever ['ev] - когда-нибудь;

Have you ever been to Russia?
- Ты когда-нибудь был в России?

Don't ever start smoking!
- Никогда не начинай курить!

Her kisses were softer then ever.
- Ее поцелуи были мягче, чем когда-либо.

mouth [mau] - рот;

bloody mouth - окровавленный рот;
full mouth - полный рот;
dirty mouth - грязный рот.

hammer ['hm] - молоток, молот;

to take a hammer - взять молоток;
to find a hammer - найти молоток;
to kill with a hammer - убить молотом;
to use a hammer - использовать молоток;
a worker's hammer - молот рабочего.

shake - трясти(сь); дрожать;

to shake your head - трясти головой;
to shake hands - пожать руки, обменяться рукопожатием;
to shake with cold - трястись от холода;
shaking carriage - трясущийся вагон;
in a shaking voice - дрожащим голосом.

stair [st] - ступенька;
stairs [stz] - лестница;

thirteen stairs - 13 ступенек;
high stairs - высокие ступеньки;
to run up the stairs - бежать вверх по лестнице;
at the top of the stairs - на верху лестницы;
downstairs - внизу, вниз по ступенькам.

escape [is'keip] - совершать побег, бежать.

decided to escape - решил убежать;
to escape from the ship - бежать с корабля;
to escape from the camp - убежать из лагеря;
It's difficult to escape. - Трудно убежать.

Morning came at last, and I was still alive. "I must escape," I thought. But first I had to get the keys.

Once again, I went down the wall and into the Count's room. I ran down the stairs, to the room with coffins. once [wns] again - еще раз;
The Count was there, in the coffin, but he looked younger and his hair was no longer white. There was blood on his mouth, which ran down across his neck. My hands were shaking, but I had to touch him, to look for the keys. I felt all over his body, but they weren't there. Suddenly I wanted to kill Count Dracula. I took a workman's hammer, and began to raise it. But just then the head turned and the Count's burning eyes looked at me. His bloody mouth smiled more horribly than ever. I dropped the hammer and stood there, shaking. What could I do now?

raise [reiz] - поднимать;
burning ['b:ni] - горящий;
horribly - ужасно;
drop - бросить;
Just then I heard the sound of voices. The workmen were coming back. I hurried back up the stairs to the Count's room. Below, I heard the noise of a key. The workmen were opening a door. So there was another door to the outside down there! I listened carefully, and heard the sound of hammers. They were getting the coffins ready for a journey - perhaps to England! I remembered the Count's words about his plans to visit my country. hurry ['hri] - спешить;
below ['bilu] - внизу;
I turned to run back downstairs, to find this open door. But I was too late. A cold wind ran through the castle and, with a crash, the door at the top of the stairs closed and locked itself. I could not get back down the stairs. crash - грохот;
Soon I saw from the window the heavy carts full of coffins, and the workmen drove away. I was alone in the castle with those terrible vampire women. heavy ['hevi] - тяжелый;
cart - телега;
While I was writing these words in my diary, I decided what to do. I must try to escape. I shall try to get down the wall outside. The window is high above the ground, but I have to try. I shall take some of the gold with me - if escape, perhaps it will be helpful later. above ['bv] - над;
ground [graund] - земля;
helpful - полезный;
If I die, it will be better than the death that waits for me here. Goodbye, Mina! Will I ever see you again? die - умереть;
death [de] - смерть.
