The Future Continuous Tense in the Past (Будущее длительное время в прошедшем).

Спряжение глагола to write (писать) в Future Continuous in the Past:

Утвердительная форма (Affirmative fоrm).Отрицательная форма (Negative form).Вопросительная форма (Interrogative Form).
I (we) should be writing
He (you, they, she, it) would be writing		 I (we) should not be writing
He (you, they, she, it) would not be writing		 Should I (we) be writing?
Would he (you, they, she, it) be writing?


Образование Future Continuous in the Past.

 Формы глагола в Future Continuous in the Past образуются так же, как и Future Continuous с той лишь разницей, что вместо shall употребляется should, a вместо will - would (см. таблицу выше).

Сокращенные формы Future Continuous in the Past образуются аналогично сокращенным формам Future Indefinite in the Past:
I'd be writing и т. д.
I shouldn't be writing и т. д.

Правила употребления Future Continuous in the Past те же самые, что и для Future Continuous (см. предыдущий выпуск). Разница между этими двумя глагольными временами состоит в том, что Future Continuous in the Past употребляется для выражения будущего действия, рассматриваемого с точки зрения прошедшего времени. Поэтому Future Continuous in the Past употребляется в придаточных дополнительных предложениях, когда сказуемое главного предложения выражено глаголом в прошедшем времени:

Не knew that at that time the patrols would be searching the area where they had lost him.
 Он знал, что в это время патрули будут обыскивать район, где они потеряли его из виду.

Future Continuous in the Past, так же как и Future Continuous, переводится на русский язык глаголом в будущем времени несовершенного вида (см. пример выше).

В следующем выпуске мы начнем изучение совершенных времен (Perfect Tenses) и подробно рассмотрим настоящее совершенное время (The Present Perfect Tense).

Idioms. Идиомы - устойчивые выражения и словосочетания.

1. hem and haw

- заикаться, запинаться, затрудняться с ответом.

Example:
He hemmed and hawed when I asked him if he knew where the missing money was.

2. day in and day out

- регулярно, постоянно, изо дня в день.

Example:
He goes to that restaurant day in and day out and never gets tired of it.

3. in a nutshell

- коротко, кратко, сжато.

Example:
I tried to explain the problem to him in a nutshell but there still wasn`t enough time.

4. dead duck

- безнадежная ситуация, дохлый номер.

Example:
He is a dead duck and has no hope of recovering his former position.

5. high and dry

- без средств, покинутый в беде, устаревший, отставший (от времени и т. п.).

Example:
They left him high and dry when they moved the company to Europe.

Anecdote:

The Test.

Three men who were lost in the forest were captured by cannibals. The cannibal king told the prisoners that they could live if they pass a trial. The first step of the trial was to go to the forest and get ten pieces of the same kind of fruit. So all three men went separate ways to gather fruits.

The first one came back and said to the king, "I brought ten apples." The king then explained the trial to him. "You have to shove the fruits up your butt without any expression on your face or you'll be eaten."

The first apple went in... but on the second one he winced out in pain, so he was killed.

The second one arrived and showed the king ten berries. When the king explained the trial to him he thought to himself that this should be easy. 1...2...3...4...5...6...7...8... and on the ninth berry he burst out in laughter and was killed.

The first guy and the second guy met in heaven. The first one asked, "Why did you laugh, you almost got away with it?" The second one replied, "I couldn't help it, I saw the third guy coming with pineapples."
