Prophetic dreams

The tears of a man

(from the report of symbols № 37-14)

“Listen, I dreamed of a load of old cobblers, you know. I went on the weekend for an overnight fishing trip. There was, as is usually the case, silence, serenity, and no one around. And you know that’s exactly what I need.

“I started a fire, left the fish soup to boil, and had a walk along the bank to check the trawl lines; then got into the tent. It was all there. The mattress, sleeping bag, and a pillow of goose feathers. I dried them, gave them an airing, and got ready for the night. Well, to cut to the chase, it was the whole shooting match. And I’ve “forgotten” the cell phone. Live me be!

“That’s what I call a proper rest. In my twenties, I’ve had it all, you know... Good restaurants, cute girls. Free-and-easy, light, music, shawties... I’ve loved them all: the blonds and brunettes, the small and tall... And now, in my forty-two years, I want to have a rest. I want silence.

“I want a place with no one to annoy me, nobody to ask for a favour; I desire everybody to let me alone. This, of course, is so between you and me and the bedpost...

“In a word, I had a dinner, the fire burned down to embers - and I went to sleep. I tossed and turned until I was blue in the face, yet I couldn’t get off to sleep. Like a moron, I tried to count the ships like five times at least. It did not work, though.

“I freaked out, got out of the tent, and went to the fire to add some branches. I sat down looking at the fire and thought to myself, ‘I’ve been coming here for many years and never noticed that the water makes so much noise. Is it the streamway that is different now?’ The splashes are so loud as if the water hits something. But the coast is flat, and there are no boats here.

“‘Don’t give a damn to this water,’ I thought, ‘Go to bed now!’ The dawn is about to come, and I have not slept at all.

“I went into the tent, crawled into my sleeping bag, zipped it, installed myself... I closed my eyes - and all I could hear were those splashes. I was trying to think of something else – hell to the no.

“Can you imagine that? Imagine me being unable to sleep because of the water? Come on, it’s never happened to me through my entire life! I just put my head on the pillow, and I'm sleeping already!

“You know, at the moment I knew – and it was not just my brains, but something deep within - that these sounds have a meaning. It's as if someone was calling me. And I realize that it was no accident!

“In short, I could not stand it anymore and I went to see where the water is slopping around. And when I saw it, I’m telling you, I gave me the shudders.

“There are many fallen trees on the bank, and a dog got caught on one. It was a huge shepherd dog. Of course, I rushed into the water and tried to get it out right off the reel. It got tangled in the ropes and those got fouled up in the trees. The dog couldn’t even get to the tree because its legs stuck and the ropes didn’t let it swim on. It hanged on by the skin of teeth dabbling, and that were the splashes keeping me away from sleep.

“I dragged the dog to the bank; it was ready to drop. I brought some food and went to sleep.

“It wasn't to be! Once I started to doze, I heard the eerie shriek. It was terrible, plaintive cry! I was like, Dear Lord! What is that? I get out of the tent, looked around knowing not where I was. Be that as it may, but something just wasn’t right.

“I flung to the riverbank and saw a heron fluttering in the water. I ran up to her, and what do you think? It got caught on my trawl line. The fishing line was like ten times around its arm. How did this poor fool get there? How did it get hooked on the trawl line? On the other bank of the river, there was a bushy backwater with water lilies and all herons were there. They just froze looking at it.

“Well, I unwound the fishing line, let a heron fly, and it touched my face and my head with a wing ... and that’s the moment I woke up!”

“So it was all a dream?”

“What do you mean?”

“The whole thing about the dog and a heron?”

“The thing is – it wasn’t! The dog was real, as for a heron... You know, it's not like it was a dream at all! Then I recalled... everything was the same, in fact, except the color. I thought it’s the dawn, that’s why it’s gloomy... I do not know, maybe it was not a dream after all, everything was so real... I might have woken up in a tent... Do you understand?”

“I understand. I guess...”

“So, I wanted to ask. You're an expert on dreams. What does it all mean? I know deep inside that I was told something...”

Viktor expelled a cloud of smoke into the air and stared at me having narrowed the left eye. I did not expect him to be so sensitive. Perhaps the meeting with the nature wasn’t in vain, and he became able to "look up at the sky."

This is the expression the channellers – oneironauts use.

Haven’t you noticed that people do not look at the sky? They mind their step all the time or do not look above the chest. In communication, it is the eye-level. That's it! To take your eyes off the ground and look up at the sky, to stop, to stand still and listen to oneself... These are the things we should learn to do again the way children learn to walk, talk, and read...

What has our life done to us? Are we the ones to blame for letting it do THIS to us? In fact, we have become blind, deaf and mute to ourselves.

I knew the meaning of what Viktor saw substantially immediately, and it does not matter whether it was a dream or reality. But why did it take such a form with the cry for help?

“Listen, I'm sorry for embarrassing question, but are you and your wife going to have a child?”

“What does it have to do with the children?”

“A child who is about to come to you now is asking for your help.”

“How's that?”

“The child is asking for permission to be born. Do you see? The girl, the daughter, is asking you to let her be born.”

“Why is it a girl?”

“Because it’s a heron. It was not a stork, but a heron. And this girl will be as good as gold, she has a spiritual connection with you”.

My words made Viktor squirm. First, he cringed, then dragged another cigarette and smiled.

“Listen, I have two boys already, but I the girl is fine by me!”

Two weeks later, we were driving in the car with Viktor in silence. Suddenly he pulled up sharp and turned away.

“What are you doing?” I asked wiping off the coffee spilled over a car dashboard.

“It’s red light”, he said and turned away again.

Near the crossroads, there was a huge billboard with a banner:

"MOTHER, PLEASE, LET ME BE BORN!"

“Sveta had an abortion yesterday”, Victor muttered, trying to even out his voice and as if by chance, touched the cheek with a tear rolling down it.
