Pepper, an 'emotionally and culturally aware' robot appeared before the Common Education Select Committee in the British parliament in London on Tuesday, and explained the way robots may assist in education.
«[Robots] will have an important role to play. But we will always need the soft skills that are unique to humans,» Pepper said, adding that «a new way of thinking is needed by tomorrow's workers.»
He added that he is also working in a three-year international project called 'Careces' in developing robots able to assist and care for the elderly.
Labour MP Lucy Powell jokingly said to rest of the panel that 'Pepper' is «better than some ministers we've had before.»
Manufactured by Japanese electronics giant, SoftBank Robotics, Pepper told the Committee that has been programmed by university students to work with pupils as well as those with special needs to develop their numeracy skills.

The Mitsubishi Electric Corporation exhibited an indoor lighting system that imitates the change of natural light throughout the day at the CEATEC Japan exhibition in Chiba on Tuesday.
The lighting system imitates the transition of light throughout the day from sunrise, to blue sky and to sunset.
Yusuke Fujii, researcher at Mitsubishi Electric Corporation, said the technology was designed to be used in places where natural lighting is not possible, such as some areas of hospitals, offices, and underground areas.
«By using this lighting technology, spaces becomes more comfortable, we create a feeling of depth, to create more feeling of open spaces which directly contributes to increasing the level of comfort, peoples feelings in spaces that would otherwise no windows,» he said.
The illusion of highly natural light is achieved by the incorporation of a proprietary edge-lit method that emits LED light from the side of the light panel.
The date of its commercial release is yet to be announced.
Tech giants Hitachi unveil 'emotion-detecting' robot to help the lonely

A robot able to detect human emotions was unveiled by electronics giant Hitachi in Chiba on Tuesday.
By recognising to people's facial expressions, the small, round robot can react to the way they feel, showing happiness and sadness.
The robot was showcased by designer Kenta Tsukijishin, who said: «The concept is to create a bond with people, as some are afraid of artificial intelligence, and that's why we use facial expressions.»
Robots can help alleviate loneliness feelings in the elderly or people living alone, he added, particularly in a country where people are very busy and don't have time to talk to family and friends.

A robot able to recognise objects and tidy up homes was unveiled by Japanese artificial intelligence venture Preferred Networks inc. in Chiba on Tuesday, during the annual CEATEC electronics trade show.
The Tokyo-based start-up created software for the cylindrical robot, which was developed by Toyota Motor Corp. for assisting the elderly and disabled.
«Japan is suffering from kind of [an] aging society as well as kind of the increase [of the] elder generation so of course we need to build a robot that can help our society,» Preferred Networks, Inc. engineer Jun Hatori said.
The support robot features a camera on top of it which enables it to recognise objects scattered in a room such as socks, toys and stationery.
Moving at a maximum speed of 800 metres (2,624 feet) an hour, the robot uses a folding arm to pick up and place objects in designated locations.
The robot's AI operates with a 'deep learning' method that employs stored data such as the shape of a room and the location of furniture.
