Мобильные угрозы в мае 2014 года

Как и в предыдущие месяцы, специалисты компании «Доктор Веб» продолжают внимательно анализировать статистику, полученную с использованием мобильного Антивируса Dr.Web для Android. Согласно этим данным, в мае 2014 года на устройствах пользователей было обнаружено порядка 7 млн. нежелательных, вредоносных и потенциально опасных приложений, что в целом соответствует показателям прошлого месяца.

В период с 1 по 31 мая на мобильных устройствах пользователей было зарегистрировано 7 005 453 срабатывания Антивируса Dr.Web для Android, при этом «лидерами» среди выявленных приложений, как и ранее, стали различные рекламные модули, которые встраивают разработчики программ в свои продукты с целью их монетизации. В 9,81% случаев на мобильных устройствах фиксировалось наличие рекламных модулей семейства Adware.Leadbolt, на втором месте с показателем 9,06% оказалось семейство Adware.Airpush, на третьем (6,68%) — Adware.Revmob.

Наиболее распространенной вредоносной программой для мобильных устройств под управлением платформы Google Android в мае 2014 года стал Android.SmsBot.120.origin — он обнаружился на 3,36% устройств, вторую позицию с показателем 2,71% занял бэкдор Android.Backdoor.69.origin, третьим в этом рейтинге оказался Android.SmsBot.105.origin (1,89%). Десятка наиболее распространенных Android-троянцев, обнаруживаемых антивирусным ПО Dr.Web на устройствах пользователей в течение мая наиболее часто, перечислена в следующей таблице:

Наибольшее количество угроз — 292 336 — было зафиксировано антивирусом 17 мая, а минимальное их число — 189 878 — было выявлено накануне Дня Победы, 8 мая 2014 года.

С использованием Аудитора безопасности — специального компонента, предназначенного для поиска в операционной системе различных уязвимостей, — в мае 2014 года было выявлено 995 966 уязвимостей на мобильных устройствах пользователей. Напомним, что Антивирус Dr.Web для Android обнаруживает несколько разновидностей подобных уязвимостей:

• Master Key — уязвимость, связанная с тем, что система безопасности Android при установке сформированных специальным образом apk-пакетов некорректно обрабатывает содержащиеся внутри них дублирующие файлы, позволяя инсталлировать приложения с неподписанными компонентами.
• Extra Field, Name Length Field — эти две уязвимости теоретически могут позволить злоумышленникам внедрить в специально сформированный apk-пакет троянский исполняемый файл, который успешно пройдет автоматическую проверку системой при установке.

Частота обнаружения данных уязвимостей на мобильных устройствах пользователей в период с 1 по 31 мая 2014 года показана на следующей диаграмме:

Согласно собранной компанией «Доктор Веб» статистике, у 81,03% пользователей в настройках ОС Android включена возможность установки приложений из неизвестных источников, что может стать еще одним каналом проникновения на устройство потенциально опасного ПО, а у 18,97% пользователей в настройках Android включен режим отладки, что, в свою очередь, грозит опасностью утечки всех хранящихся на устройстве данных. 3,84% владельцев мобильных устройств используют операционную систему с полномочиями администратора (так называемые «рутованные» телефоны) — это тоже может стать причиной заражения смартфона или планшета, а также значительно усложнить удаление вредоносных программ.

Специалисты компании «Доктор Веб» будут и в дальнейшем следить за динамикой распространения мобильных угроз, а также своевременно информировать об этом пользователей.

Watch Dogs Torrent Infected With Bitcoin Mining Malware

Internet irony alert: Thousands of gamers who downloaded a pirated copy of the highly anticipated hacker-themed video game Watch Dogs were infected with Bitcoin mining malware.

Reports indicate that the infected torrent was advertised as a SKIDROW crack – SKIDROW being a warez group known for cracking Ubisoft’s digital rights management protection. As Ubisoft is the actual publisher of Watch Dogs and as the torrent was released prior to the official Watch Dogs release date, the pirated copy proved massively popular. In fact, at one point the illegal copy of the game had a reported 40,000 active torrent users.

Unfortunately, this copy also came bundled with a Bitcoin mining malware designed to utilize the high performance computing resources of gaming PCs. Not long after distribution, commentary began to circulate gaming forums stating that the downloaded copy was causing many computers to freeze. Soon enough, a malicious application called winlogin.exe – not to be confused with winlogon.exe – was identified as the cause. Winlogin.exe was found to be using up to 25% of an infected computer’s resources, in conjunction with a Bitcoin miner called itc.exe.

These applications are designed to take over a PC’s computing power, to earn cryptocurrency for their master. When thousands of PCs are infected at once, they are all implicated in a “Bitcoin mining botnet,” the combined computing power of which can turn a profit by “mining” new Bitcoins. The Perfect Target

Gamers anticipating the upcoming release of a brand new title that has received a good deal of hype for the last two years are prime targets for a Trojan download. What is more is that gaming PCs are considerably more powerful than regular ones, which makes them perfect Bitcoin zombies. On top of this, many torrent users do not run an anti-malware when downloading, to avoid detecting false positives. And on top of that, many gamers don’t use an anti-malware at all, because many anti-malware products waste computing power and slow down the gaming experience.

All of this makes for a perfect malware target, and though reports indicate that the malicious SKIDROW Watch Dogs release has been removed from most torrent websites, this is a scenario likely, if not guaranteed, to occur again with another popular title.

To avoid becoming a target from attacks of this nature, you should take care to ensure that you and those using your computer are not downloading illegal software of any kind. In reality, a Bitcoin miner is relatively harmless compared to what could come bundled with your latest torrent download – i.e., file-locking ransomware such as CryptoDefense.
