WorldDX Bjarne Mjelde DX Logs

This weekend in Kongsfjord, Arctic Norway:

Very disturbed conditions these days with Polar K-indices up at 4 and even 5. Usually this means no or little DX, but sometimes spot conditions appear, and that’s what happened this weekend. The night before Saturday was short, basically two full hours. MN/ND/SD/CO were the favoured states. Very strong signals from KNWC-ND 1270, KVXR-MN 1280 and KELO-SD 1320. More surprising were KCMN-CO 1530 and KDCO-CO 1550 along with KMRI-UT. Also noted were WJON-MN 1230 and KREW-TX 1400.

Night to Sunday quite a spread as the 340 beverage got quite a bit of WC stations, excellent signal from KUTY-WA 1460. The 310 beverage was totally different with EC and South American stations. Nothing much of interest from the East Coast (except confirmation that WQEW hadn’t closed after all), but late in the morning a few Colombians and Venezuelans. I noted Verdad-1580 from Bogota and El Sol-1550 from Barranquilla.
Seems like the flares are coming at a steady pace now. As long as the proton levels stay low, this could bring interesting spot openings, of which we have had a few the past week or so.
