(Algeria)
Surprised to hear same Qur`an on three different 7 MHz frequencies in // --- well, not quite; comparing on different receivers, they were slightly out of synch with each other,

May 28 at 0537, 7305 leading 7260, more melodic than your average muezzin, with pauses for plain speech in Arabic; 7150 slightly behind 7260 and 7305 at 0542 when

segue to secular music, Arabic talk. At 0545, 7305 definitely strongest and 7260 weakening. Per new sked from DX Mix News, Bulgaria, Issoudun, France relay started

May 24 on 7305 during the 0500 hour; per old skeds, 7260 is Skelton and 7150 is Sines, both under auspices of VTC while 7305 is TDF. All these are aimed back at

northern Africa (Glenn Hauser, OK, USA - dxldyg 29/05/2008)

Today May 30 (moslim sunday) R Algerienne HQ via Issoudun is NOT on air at 0400-1000 UT.
Only Skelton 7260 kHz relay noted til 0600 UT.

BSKSA buzzy tx again on air on 11935 kHz from 0900 UT, but small bandwidth of 11932-11938 kHz noted today.
(W. Bueschel, Germany - dxldyg 30/05/08)

RTA may have ceased the relay (tests?) via France, but still heard via VTC facilities, June 2 at 0528 with sermon in Arabic (not recitation), weak on 7150 Sines and barely

audible on 7260 Skelton, but nothing on 7305 which was Issoudun (Glenn Hasuer, OK, USA - dxldyg 02/06/08)

(Ангила) ANGUILLA.
Defunct Gene Scott, 11775, absent May 28 at 1326 check. At some point they will probably close down for a while to install the ex-KTBN transmitter, but I don`t know if

this is it. So will they be running two frequencies at once, or retire the old one? (Glenn Hauser, OK, USA - dxldyg 29/05/08)

Australia
Everything was going OK before 0800 while listening Radio Australia, Sunday, June lst. But they got stuck with the IS on 9580 // 9590 when they were about to open

service. The same happened with highly reliable here 12080. Only 9475 was running regular transmission. This remained still at 0820 when I quit listening.
(Raúl Saavedra, Costa Rica - dxldyg 02/06/08)

Bolivia
4699.35, Radio San Miguel, Riberalta, 0145-0214*,
May 29, Spanish talk. Ad string at 0158 with ads, jingles, promos.
Some Bolivian music after 0203. Abrupt sign off. Weak but readable.
(B. Alexander, PA, USA - dxldyg 29/05/08)

Brazil
4824.97, Radio Cancao Nova, Cachoeira Paulista,
0230-0240, May 29, Portuguese religious talk. Ave Maria at
approximately 0234. // 9675.0 - both frequencies fair. Listed //
6105 not heard. (B. Alexander, PA, USA - dxldyg 29/05/08)

BRAZIL. 4914.97, Radio Difusora, Macapa, 0301-0325, May 30,
several IDs at 0302-0303. Many mentions of Macapa. Promos, ads,
jingles, Electronic sound affects. Portuguese talk. Romantic ballads.
Fair but noisy conditions. (Alexander-PA)

BRAZIL. 9629.91, Radio Aparecida, 0125-0140, May 30, Portuguese
religious talk. Religious music. Fair. // 5035.07-very weak, // 6134.96-
fair, // 11855-weak under Family Radio-Okeechoobee. (Alexander-PA)

BRAZIL. 9645.27, Radio Bandeirantes, Sao Paulo, 0135-0145,
May 30, Portuguese talk. Ads, jingles, promos. Poor to fair. // 11925.21-
threshold signal. (Alexander, PA, USA - dxldyg 30/05/08)

Brazil, 5990, Radio Senado, 0943-1005, I was setting on this freq waiting
for a carrier
to give it's identity, then at 0943 Senado came on with music, mainly
Brasilian Jazz.
A few comments from a female in Portuguese mentioning "Brazil" occasionally
but
no ID immediately. Music continued after that. At 0959 canned ID by a male
over
music. "...5990 khZ ... 49 metros... Amazonas Radio Senado ..." Live
Portuguese
comments, which sounded like news, at 1001 by female. Signal was fair.
(Chuck Bolland, Clewiston, FL, USA, May 31, 2008)

4755 Radio Inmaculada Conceicao, Campo Grande, MS, 1027-1032, May 31,
Portuguese,
Complete ID. Ann. transmission in // with Radio Inmaculada Conceicao, Maua,
SP on 1490 Khz, 34332
(Arnaldo Slaen, Argentina)

5980 Radio Guaruja, Florianopolis, SC, 2145-2200, May 31, Portuguese,
football transmision (Figuerense vs Goias), 24332
Reported at 1040 UTC (sunday 01, june) with a very interesting programme
named
"PLUG 700" and maked by Rede Eldorado
(Arnaldo Slaen, Argentina - dxldyg 01/06/08)

9530v BRAZIL R. Transmundial (pres.) OC at 1026, then soft rel. vcl mx by male chorus from *1028-1030. M anncr in PT and mx bridges to 1033. Rel.-sounding song

then. M in definite PT at 1039. Weak and fady. Drifted up from 9529.9 to 9530.08 by 1038. Actually more readable on the E-1 than on the NRD-535D. (31 May)

11804.71 BRAZIL R. Globo 2315 getting mx, then definite PT tlk by M in slight echo at 2316. 2320 sounded like an ID w/definite ment of Brasil. Many live and canned

anmnts prior to BoH, some shouting, and possible ID at 2328. Unfortunately there was a lot of local static noise. Still going at 2349 w/abt the same strength and noise.

This is rarely heard these days. 11815 was pounding in. (Dave V., hard-core-dx 01/06/08)

6170, Brasil, R Cultura, Sao Paulo SP; is relaying R. Cultura FM, Sao Paulo with basically Class. music content, and is currently the only SW frequency of R. Cultura, Sao

Paulo, on air. (Lucio O.B., Embu, Brazil - playdx2003 01/06/08)

4940v, Radio Amazonas, Puerto Ayacucho, 0130-0145,
May 31, Presumed. Strong, ugly, badly distorted signal with LA music.
Spanish announcements. Too distorted to catch an ID but Amazonas
has a reputation of putting out distorted signals around here.
(Alexander, PA, USA - dxldyg 31/5/08)

6180 Radio Nacional de Venezuela via RHC, 1011-1016, May 31, Spanish,
Interview to Hugo Chavez to TV Record, ID as:
"Somos el Canal Internacional de Radio Nacional de Venezuela", 33433
(Arnaldo Slaen, Argentina - hard-core-dx 01/06/08)

(Dominican Republic)
5009.79, Radio Cristal-Radio Pueblo,
2345-2359*, May 28, Presumed. Spanish talk. Local music. No
ID heard. Weak unintelligible announcement at 2359 & off. Fair
signal strength but low modulation. (Alexander, PA, USA - dxldyg 29/05/08)

Indonesia
9526, Voice of Indonesia, 1125-1140, At tune-in, noted a male in
Mandarin
language comments until 1128 when music is presented. At 1130 more comments
and
possible change to new language segment. Signal by this time (1130) has
deteriorated
to threshold. A report a few days ago said that VOI was back down to their
regular
freq of 9525 KHz, but today they are back on 9626 KHz. There must be some
QRM at their end that they can't shake on 9525 and 9626 KHz is the better
spot to transmit? (Charles B., Clewiston, FL, USA - dxldyg 30/05/08)

VOI is back on 9526, after being on 9525 for a few days, and missing the day before. May 30 at 1318, xylophone music, Korean announcements, more bits of music. Why,

o why? Are two different transmitters involved, one set on 9525, the other on 9526? Or do they deliberately think there is some advantage to broadcasting 1 kHz off-channel

most of the time? (Glenn Hauser, OK, USA - dxldyg 02/06/08)

(China)
All CNR-1 frequencies carry the daily national news
conference from about 0800-0900, in Chinese with complete translations
in English, from State Council of Information's Office. Had item about
how the Central Committee of the CPC had issued directives that there
were to be no "vanity projects" (political favoritism) regarding the
reconstruction.

PBS-XZDT, Lhasa, 6200 still with CNR-1 relay May 25, 1306+1345+1447.

PBS, Lhasa on 4905 // 4920 not a relay of CNR-1, decent signal.

Sichuan PBS services, from the quake area, heard most days on 9740 and
new 12015, in parallel. 6060 and 7225 not heard too often. Normally
the only music heard here was somber piano music, but May 26 heard
them playing some patriotic songs (believe about national unity and
how the country will pull through this disaster). There are numerious
such songs also played now on TV.

Shanghai PBS, 3280 // 4950, sign-on seems to be just after 0800. Big signal.

Easy FM (CRI), 17710 (not // to 87.9 FM), 0705-0754, May 27, mostly in
English, "China Drive" program (segments: quake update, sports news,
business news, entertainment news, etc.), fair-good.

VOS:
4900 // 5050, 2345, May 25. At other times not parallel. Good signals.

6115 // 7280, 0944-1000, May 27, good reception, in Chinese, same
schedule as heard in Calif., after ToH not parallel.
(Ron Howard, Shanghai, China - dxldyg 29/05/08)

CRI in English, with two separate programs at 0124 May 30: regular show on 9580 via Cuba, // 9790 via Canada with item about Tibetan houses; and on 9570, 6020 via

Albania with SAH and AH, China Drive show from domestic service, at first a bit of Chinese music, but then American-accented announcer talking about psychoanalysis,

NBA playoffs. Is it still drive-time in Beijing after 9 am? Is this a regular spot for China Drive, 0100 UT via Albania but not Cuba or Canada? 9580 modulation had some

rumble on it but better than last time I noticed (Glenn Hauser, OK, USA - dxldyg 30/05/08)

(Colombia)
6035, LV Guaviare, 0250-0300*, May 30, local Spanish
ballads. Spanish announcements. Sign off with National Anthem.
Poor, difficult reception with heavy adjacent channel splatter and
co-channel QRM. (Alexander, PA, USA - dxldyg 30/05/08)

(Kongo)
DEMOCRATIC REPUBLIC of CONGO 6210 Radio Kahuzi I was looking at their website
today and noticed that they have a great blog - http://www.radiokahuzi.blogspot.com/
(via Hans Johnson, Florida, USA - hard-core-dx 01/06/08)

(Cuba)
5025 Radio Rebelde, Bauta, 1017-1023, May 31, Spanish,
short news and talk by female, 24232 (Arnaldo Slaen, Argentina - hard-core-dx 01/06/08)

RHC did it again, slow to turn off the 11750 transmitter at 2300 conclusion of Spanish to Europe, June 1. Instead, added one eighth of an hour in English, which is supposed

to be on 9550 only, until abruptly cut at 2307.5*

Also, RHC 11680 is colliding with Spain! June 2 at 0110 I was hearing Castilian mixed with Spanish from two stations less than 1 Hz apart, and roughly equal strength.

REE is scheduled here at 2300-0200 to South America. Commies vs former Colonialists! RHC extended usage of this frequency two or three months ago, oblivious of

Spain, which of course is in HFCC while Cuba is not (Glenn Hauser, OK, USA - dxldyg 02/06/08)

(Kuweit)
5860, Radio Farda, 0220-0240, May 31,
Euro-pop/techno-pop dance music. Mid-Eastern pop music. Talk
in listed Farsi. IDs. Possible news at 0230. Weak. Much stronger on
// 7280-via Germany. Weak // 9510-via Germany. (Alexander, PA, USA - dxldyg 31/5/08)

Laos (USA)
Hmong Lao Radio missing from 11785, Sunday June 1 at 1322 check, just Firedrake and VOA Chinese via Thailand. O, there it is on new 11750! Not a spur either, as the

11785 transmitter had been producing for about a week, but right on 11750 alone. Rechecked at 1503, 11750 was still on with WHRI gospel huxter in English. I didn`t have

a chance to check later in the day to see how long WHRI stayed on 11750, but at 2304 it was back on 11785, fortunately for RHC.

Is 11750 shown on WHR`s own website http://www.whr.org/Frequencies.cfm – of course not, and still not when rechecked at 0047 UT June 2. Angel 6 is now supposed to

be running on 11785 all the way from 1300 to 2400.

Is 11750 on HLR`s own website http://www.h-lr.com/ No! Still shows 11785 Sundays at 8 am US time, as if we had only one timezone.

In fact WHRI 11750 is not to be found on any online SW schedule, yet? Not even EiBi just updated May 29.

Bad news for BBC via Thailand, supposedly on 11750 at 1200-1400, altho I could not hear any of it under WHRI, so there may be less interference for HLR in CNAm than

there was on 11785. Or maybe it was a mistake. Or maybe it was a test (Glenn Hauser, OK, USA - dxldyg 02/06/08)

New Zealand
Radio New Zealand Int. detected on new 13730, Sat. May 31st, 0055, with fair to poor propagation, and splatter from Radio Canada Int. Spanish on adjacent 13725. On the

clear but still poor altho audible at 0100. (Raul Saavedra, Costa Rica - dxldyg 31/5/08)

Finally Radio New Zealanda Int. made the expected move to 9615 at 0500 from May 31 (dropping 11725) providing a clean and beautiful signal. They remained on this

frecuendy till 1100 during A07, without making that change at 0700 to 7145, which anyway has been working well lately.
(Raul Saavedra, Costa Rica - dxldyg 31/5/08)

Mariana Islands
9575, Voice of America (pres), 1040-1110, Was curious
who or what the carrier was between Radio Australia's transmissions on
9570 and 9580 KHz. So I tenderly tuned it in and heard Chinese
Language comments (actually it was Mandarin) there. Sometimes
English words were heard. In the background, I heard Firedrake music.
Although the VOA broadcast is scheduled until 1200 UTC, it either
faded out or dropped off the air at 1100 today? Firedrake however,
continued to broadcast. VOA must of had transmitter problems because
at about 1106, the broadcast of Mandarin retured to the air.
VOA's signal was fair to poor. (Chuck Bolland, Clewiston, FL, USA, June 2, 2008)

Mexico
4800, Mexico, XERTA(pres.), Mexico City; June-01 SS 0741-0752 Spanish pop romantic music, 0742 male talks “...contiene las buenas noticias de salvacion...”. Recheked

later at 0911, ID by female “...trancontinental...”, another ID at 0932. Much fading in first check but from 0910 to 0935 had some enhancement, 23322
(Lucio O.B., Embu, Brazil - playdx2003 01/06/08)

Peru
5014, Peru, R Altura, Cerro de Pasco; May-28 SS 2201 ID “R. Altura”, 2203-2215 romantic music, 2206 “campana del control del carrapata...”, 2207 romantic music, in its

mid-song short canned ID, 2210 veterenary remedy ads “maximo poder parasitario...adquiran en Av. La Plata...”, “alegrando-lhe con mas musica”, folk music. QRN, 33222

(Lucio O.B., Embu, Brasil - playdx2003 30/05/08)

6019.43, Radio Victoria, 0835-0958, Noted a male and female
in Spanish language conversation with a lot of natural noise (QRN) causing
difficulty. However, no interference from Radio Australia yet, so the
signal is pretty clear. At 0859 UTC, Radio Australia comes up with
IS blocking all. (Chuck Bolland, Clewiston, FL, USA, June 1, 2008)

Portugal
17690, Sudan Radio Service,
*1500-1605+, May 30, Arabic talk. IDs. Short breaks of local African
music. Poor in noisy conditions. Looking for English but only hear
Arabic. (Alexander, PA, USA - dxldyg 30/05/08)

(Russia)
5920, Radio Rossii, Petropavlovsk-Kamchatskiy, 1000-1031,
With a pretty good signal this Monday morning, noted a period of news
and features in the Russian Language. Periodically a canned ID was
let loose as "Radio Rossii" by a female and other times by a male.
At 1028, a tune by Neal Young was heard. Signal was good. (Chuck Bolland, Clewiston, FL, USA,June 2, 2008)

(Romania)

on limited schedule on shortwave, during reconstruction and refurbishing

Saudi Arabia
BSKSA huge buzzy transmitter centered on 11915, no doubt the same unit as before 1800 on 15205, heard May 28 at 2118. It only spread about 5 kHz above and below

here, but messes up most of the 25m band in Europe (Glenn Hauser, OK, USA - dxldyg 29/05/08)

Buzzy txion on 11915 kHz is 14 kHz wide now, but has tremendous side band
buzz and ignition like spikes on both sidebands. 11825-11908 and
11922-12032 kHz. 18-23 UT May 30th.
(W. Bueschel, Germany - dxldyg 30/5/08)

While listening to the Voice of Korea on 15245 at 1548 today, Saturday
31 May 2008, the Saudi Arabian transmitter on 15205 was switched on.
The usual noise made all but the very strongest broadcasts unlistenable
on 15 mhz ( noise from 14550 to 16000 ). At 1606 I was intending to
listen to Radio France on 17605 but that was inaudible so I tried 15605
but that was also inaudible, but not because of Saudi Arabia, just very
poor signal. So I checked 15205 and got excellent reception of the
Quran presumably from Saudi Arabia, no noise of any kind. The
transmitter must have been fixed some time around 1600. Hopefully
permanently.
Still excellent noiseless reception at 1622 recheck.
(Harry Brooks, NE England, UK - dxldyg 31/5/08)

Serbia
IRS still on 6185 colliding with and generally underneath XEPPM, in Serbian at 2335 May 29, and after 0100 May 30 in English, unusable. Nothing on 6190. Dragan Lekic

tells DXLD that he has been in contact with Predrag Graovac, technical director of International Radio Serbia, and passed on my suggestion that they move to 6190 --- and

this will be done starting May 30-31! For the NAm broadcasts between 2330 and 0130, including English at 0000=except UT Sundays and 0100=daily. Reports wanted to

radioju(at)sbb(dot)co(dot)yu (Glenn Hauser, OK, USA - dxldyg 30/05/08)

I did not have a chance to check for IRS on new 6190 May 31-June 1, as they had promised, but June 1 after 2330, 0000 and 0100 UT June 2, I could hear something on

6190 that was not there before; poor reception these dates, but presumably IRS, and no more co-channel on XEPPM 6185. At 0115, 6190 was playing classical music, and

so was it when I brought up the webcast at 0125, in time to hear the lack of any announcement about the music (just disposable fill?), and the standard English sign-off

claiming the frequencies are 6100 and 7240, which of course apply only to the European service, so we`ll never hear them announce 6190, as they never announced 6185

either. How convenient for them (Glenn Hauser, OK, USA - dxldyg 02/06/08)

Slovakia
15650, Miraya FM Radio, *1500-1520,
May 30, Presumed. Sign on with local African music. Announcements
and English news at 1501-1511. Mentions of Sudan. Arabic talk at
1511. No ID heard. Poor in noisy conditions. (Alexander, PA, USA - dxldyg 30/05/08)

Sudan
Radio Peace say they are having transmitter problems and that a technician has
been dispatched from Kenya. They hope to be back on in a few weeks. They say their
current schedule on 4750 and 5895 is 6-10 AM and 5-9 PM local. (via H. Johnson, Naples, USA - CumbreDX 30/05/08)

USA (США)
The Atwoods parking lot on the west side of Enid is a hot spot for MW groundwave, low noise too, so I did a quick bandscan May 28 on the caradio. A few significant

observations.

1340, KEBC, OKC normally alone on channel in daytime here in Enid, but could hear something underneath sportstalk at 2022 UT. Most likely is KJMU Sand Springs, near

Tulsa. Maybe I could have pulled it thru a null if I had a directional antenna. KJMU was off the air from last Oct to Feb, per reports from Bruce Winkleman via DXLDs 7-136

and 8-020. I wonder if they did any upgrading in the meantime. They are of course limited to 1000 watts non-direxional, but the ground system, etc., could have been

improved.

Indeed KJMU is the only possibility, assuming there is no skywave. Altho a heavily-populated `graveyard` channel nationwide, 1340 has a big unoccupied hole around here,

as is obvious from the NRC AM Pattern Book --- in KS, only two stations along the extreme eastern border with MO. None in the TX panhandle, unless you include

Lubbock. None in SE Colorado.

I should have tried harder in the daytime at quiet rural locations in western OK or KS, and/or with defacto fence beverages, to better my NRC distance record for KSSR

Santa Rosa NM, which I think has been silent for a few years now, perhaps never to return.

Per FCC AM Query for facility number 29504, there was an involuntary transfer of ownership after the original owner J. MICHAEL ESQUIBEL, was DECEASED, to JOSEPH

M. ESQUIBEL, PERSONAL REPRESENTATIVE, presumably his son or heir, which went thru on Feb 13, 2006. KSSR is still LICENSED: as of 01/01/2008 and License

Expires 10/01/2013. And as far as FCC are concerned, on the air, even if it isn`t.

If anyone is travelling along Route 66 (or rather I-40), or US 54/84 in the Santa Rosa area before I get out there again, please note whether 1340 is on the air (Glenn Hauser,

OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

1170, KFAQ, Tulsa at 2026 UT was accompanied by IBOC buzz on each side. It is not listed as an HD station by iBiquity, at
http://ibiquity.com/hd_radio/hdradio_find_a_station?state=OK&sortBy=undefined#stationlist
Has anyone else noticed IBOC from KFAQ at night, or day?

1000, KTOK, OKC, an IBOC station, but seems to be more and more sporadic. Not on at this time, 2027 UT, allowing Spanish gospel from Texas on 990 to be audible,

KFCD Farmersville in The Metroplex, and also C&W music on 1010, KIND Independence KS. When KTOK IBOC is on, these are totally blown away by the buzz.

930, WKY, OKC, still IBOC-free, despite reports it would be next.

640, WWLS, OKC/Moore/Norman, strong IBOC on as usual totally blocking 630 and 650, and as always, also bothering KSKY 660.

620, KMKI, Plano TX, Disney for The Metroplex, has IBOC on, as can be heard bothering 610 Kansas City, tho not distinguishable from much stronger WWLS IBOC on 630

(Glenn Hauser, OK, Enid, USA - dxldyg 29/05/08)

U S A. Glad to confirm that WBCQ, 15420-CUSB, aired new WORLD OF RADIO 1410, when checked at 2102 UT Wednesday May 28. Quite weak signal compared to

Chile-15410, etc. (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

U S A. VOA, Greenville, 15390, supposed to carry Creole service to Haiti starting at 2100 until 2130, but May 28 at 2104, found open carrier only, a farting noise, off and

on the air a few times; finally brought up audio at 2106 joining program in progress, which I had already confirmed was running OK on // 13725; also on // 11895 checked at

2117. The old GB transmitters must be quite temperamental (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

U S A. WHRI`s spur from 11785 is getting worse and moving around. May 28 at 2113, found a huge blob centered on 11771, a bit further from fundamental than before.

Earlier in day, Anguilla was missing from 11775 and may still have been as I could not hear any trace of it, no beat with an 11775 carrier. During music, the 11771 blob was

just about as loud as 11785, but more distorted. Also matching spur at 2115 on 11799, this one colliding with RHC on 11800 in Spanish, which I had not been able to hear

a few minutes earlier. Christians vs Commies! (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

U S A. WTJC, 9370 is another POS transmitter. May 28 at 2122 found an extremely distorted FMy blob with music spreading 9255 to 9285, centered around 9270 when

first checked, a few minutes later more like 9275. WTJC has done this before so I suspected them immediately, but on 9370 itself there was a carrier with barely detectable

modulation I could not be certain was //. However, WBOH 5920 was audible, with a familiar hymn tune, and it was definitely // the blob which by 2126 was centered about

9260 spreading plus/minus 30 kHz. So much for Wadi el Nil on 9250! However, at 2129 all the 9 MHz stuff vanished as they turned off the WTJC transmitter + parasitix. It

stayed off most of the half hour, but at 2200 recheck, 9370 was back on with full modulation, ID and IRN `news`, no spurs, fortunately for WINB which had also just opened

on 9265.

BTW, Dave Frantz of WWRB once told me that helpful people from FBN in Newport NC came over to run his previous station WGTG in McCaysville GA when he had to be

away, but they stole the plans for his homemade transmitter so they could build their own, which in a few years signed on as WTJC/WBOH (Glenn Hauser, OK, USA -

dxldyg 29/05/08)

U S A. World of Radio via WRMI 9955, new time of 0100 UT Fridays, audible without jamming May 30 at 0118 check, but very poor with noise; by 0122 it was much

better and readable (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

U S A. WHRI still putting out spurblobs from 11785 transmitter; haven`t they noticed yet? May 29 at 1953 centered on 11771 and 11799 (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX

LISTENING DIGEST)

U S A. KVOH, 17920 spur, May 29 at 2117 consisted mainly of a regular beat like a washing machine agitator, // 17775 which had the same beat plus nortena music

(Glenn Hauser, OK, USA - dxldyg 30/05/08)

U S A [and non]. Unlike Sunday with Hmong Lao Radio, no sign of WHRI/Angel 6 on 11750, or 11785, Monday June 2 at 1315 check; but differing weekday skeds are de

rigueur for them. Still nothing on either at 1724 recheck. As of June 2, the Angel 6 program schedule shows 11785 off the air for maintenance M-F at 1300-1600 but listed

expendable LeSEA fill programs are also missing after that; and still claims to be using 11785 Sat/Sun 13-14 for HLR. BTW, without Cypress Creek on 11750, BBCWS,

English via Thailand at 25 degrees, was audible poorly at 1349, and I recall it can be listenable on good FE mornings, so no doubt BBC would prefer to have it blocked in

NAm. No such luck today (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

U S A. 15855 with open carrier and continuous squeal, typical for WEWN`s defective transmitter, June 2 at 1359 just before starting modulation (Glenn Hauser, OK, DX

LISTENING DIGEST)

U S A [non]. Something in S Asian language, mentioning Bangladesh, fair on 15790, June 2 until abrupt 1359* in mid-word.

EiBi shows:
15790 1400-1500 USA VoA Radio Aap ki Dunyaa UR SAs /KWT

But this is a service which has just shifted one UT hour earlier due to DST in Pakistan, as in DXLD 8-066. Aoki already has it changed to:
15790 VOICE OF AMERICA 1300-1400 1234567 Urdu 250 70 Kuwait KWT 4741E2931N IBB (R Aap Ki Duniya) a08 Jun. 1

However, when the time changed on June 1, the site also changed from Kuwait to Sri Lanka (Glenn Hauser, DX LISTENING DIGEST)

U S A [and non]. WRMI has done some work on the NW antenna at 317 degrees for 9955, and is testing it June 2 so I check for any improvement:

As usual before 1400, when on 160 degree antenna and/or in Spanish, nothing but DentroCuban jamming audible.

1408 tune-in, R. Prague relay, good in English, steady S9+17 but with periodic deep fades, quite readable. I would say this is an improvement, but still fighting high noise

level on the band, at least around here. Contest promo in mailbag, later Letter from Prague, and music, so this is obviously the Sunday program played back on Monday.

Firedrake and KWHR/Sound of Hope were stronger and clearer on 9930, while PPP on WWCR 9980 was as usual inblasting, and by 1428 was overloading the FRG-7

receiver with E/W longwire, even when tuned to 9955.

WRMI has improved, but the modulation isn`t up to the signal level. Needs audio processing to get the most out of what signal is available. Maybe this is not possible on

the old Wilkinson ex-Clarín transmitter?

1429, R. Prague outro in English, more music, and I hoped that the totally out-of-place announcement of R. Prague`s complete transmission schedule in French had been

deleted --- but no, they were just running a few minutes late as usual, for at 1431-1433 we got the IS and irrelevant French sked, contact info in French, but it was cut off

before completed in the middle of the URL, at 1433 for WRMI half-minute ID. Idea: if R. Prague can`t get its act together and make the half-hour in English totally in English,

why not do it for them, inserting an English transmission schedule announcement instead? Or leave it out to get back on time. 1433:30 Italian DX program.

Reception deteriorated slightly and steadily during the following semihour, probably more due to increasing daytime absorption than anything else. Judging from neighbor

WYFR reception, WRMI would do much better on 11 MHz or higher during the daytime, but I suppose 9955 is the best compromise if only one frequency must be used 24

hours.

At 1500 a het appeared from a carrier on 9956, detracting further from WRMI reception. What could this be? Aoki already has the answer, which I had not noticed before:

9956 FAMILY RADIO 1500-1700 1234567 Russian 100 352 Tainan TWN 12038E 2311N WYFR a08

This is certainly not the frequency published in YFR`s A-08 Taiwan schedule as in DXLD 8-027, ``9955``. Why in the world did they shift one kHz? The signal is too weak

here to be noticeable against WRMI if it were on 9955. At 1502 it sounded like a prayer in Spanish from WRMI, not sure how that got in there; ID, then 1503 DX Partyline.

Recheck at 1608, WRMI weaker and unreadable, but the 9956 carrier was still detectable too, gone at 1724 recheck, as scheduled.

I at first thought the QRM must be KHBN Palau which is known to share 9955, and HFCC has it on the air at this time, instead of YFR/Taiwan. FCC May 6 update also

shows KHBN on 9955 at 08-17. HFCC also has KHBN on 9955, not YFR/Taiwan on 9955 or 9956, so those going by HFCC may not be aware of it. EiBi May 29 update has

neither KHBN nor YFR/Taiwan on 9955. There have been indications recently that KHBN/T8BZ listings include a lot of wooden registrations, so this may be another case of

that (Glenn Hauser, OK, USA - dxldyg 02/06/08)

Судан
SSIRI, via Meyerton, S Africa, Monday June 2 at 1309 on 15390 with usual condescending English lessons, frequent 2-tone doorbell sounds, noticed at first because it was

underneath open carrier and occasional tones, probably Greenville testing for much later Creole broadcast at 1630, but that went off shortly.

Then found more SSIRI on another new frequency via RSA, 15485, sounding like same show, but not //. Doesn`t this confuse the recipients? Did not try to figure out if same

show but not synchronized, or two different episodes. Both of these are scheduled M/W/F only, at azimuths of 7 and 5 degrees, respectively, both to CIRAF 53W and 48.

But zone 53 extends only as far north as Tanzania, nothing of Sudan, while 48 includes the eastern half of Sudan, including the southern tip

Arabic. There are no listings of the 0400 xmsn on

СВ/ДВ (MW)

From May 14-May16; i did some dx listening while on a vacation to the
Great Salt Plains in Oklahoma in celebration of my wife,s birthday. We
stayed 2 nights and parts of 3 days in a cabin at the Salt Plains
State Park.I dxed at the cabin, at an overlook at the Salt Plains Lake
and from the observation platform at the salt flats on the west side
of the lake.Receivers were a G.E.Super Radio 3 and a Sony SRF-M37W
"Ultralight"
Most of the dxing was done on the Sony to check out it,s capabilities
further in a quieter environment.Anyone interested in ultralights
,check out the ultralight forum at dxer.ca and also there is a yahoo
group on the subject.I used a Select-A-Tenna to boost signals on SRF
M37W.In a head to head comparison with the G.E. Super Radio 3,i found
that almost everything i could hear on the G.E.,i could hear on the
Sony. With a filter for better selectivity and external ferrite that
would be bigger than the small stock one,i think the Sony would be
very comparative with the G.E.But further investigation will be required.
Some of the more interesting catches included the following:
On May 14,2008-
KLTT-670-Commerce City,Co from 1929-1932 central time.Good signal.
unid Spanish station-700-at 1934.Fair signal.
unid Spanish station-1480 at 2300-2308.Poor to fair.possible mention
of Monterrey.Mixing with co-channel Radio Disney station in
Wichita,Kansas.
Great Salt Plains State Park T.I.S. -WQCL720 at 2324-2336.Very good
with park information and area attraction information.I learned from
this T.I.S. ,i learned the Salt Plains Lake has 1/3 the salt of ocean
water. This makes it a great ground plane i would think.
On May 15;
unid-1630-0015-0120 with Southern gospel mx.Poor-fair.
KHSE-probable-700-ads for dfw metroplex, new programing covering Indian

database reveals that this is probably KHSE-Wiley ,Texas with a slogan
of Fun Asia am 700.

instrumental music and Spanish preaching.
CBK-540-Watrous(sp?)Sk-0024-0027 with CBC talk.Fair to good.
Most of the preceding were heard at our cabin with a few at the
overlook at the lake.Though these 2 locations were fairly quite ,they
were not as quite as the salt flats which was on the other(west side)
of the lake.
some loggings from the flats on May 16:
most presumed
all 1230 -1315 cdt
940 presumed KIXZ Amarillo,Tx with talk.fair.
1210-presumed KGYN-Guymon,Ok.Good.Never heard at home in Ponca City,Ok

1510-possible Larned,Ks.Good.ad for business in Great Bend.
1590 KGVB-Great Bend-Good with wx,talk,ads and i.d.Not heard in Ponca
City during this time period.
i noticed less splatter on 960,1230,1280,1580 and 1640 than at this
time period at home.I did not get to test out on the salt flats
because they were shut down because of the discovery of toxic
substances .But the results from the observation platform were
encouraging. The flats would a great ground plane to test a vertical
on.Hopefully i will get to go back to the area in the fall or late
winter/ early spring to test my theory. (Carl E - mwdx 02/06/08)

A bit odd as the opening was to Italy, however the Es map was showing a G
station working South Spain. Will leave this as tentative I think.

Radio Cosford is now on the air for the Air Show on Sunday so I have lost
87.90MHz till late Sunday Night. I think another RSL is due to appear on
87.70MHz for most of June in the West Midlands. I am hoping that it will not
be very strong on the horizontal beam, though I expect it to wipe the
frequency out on the vertical. That is the one problem with a high QTH with
a good take off to the South East. (g4fbz - skywaves 30/5/08)

Ciao a tutti,

Conditions up a little this evening with Lille clear and Belgium also
slightly enhanced on e.g. 95.6, 99.1, 101.1, 101.8 and 102.6. Even
87.6 Classic 21 just audible as I type. (Nick G., UK - skywaves 31/5/08)

Still a slight lift towards Lille & Belgium here with e.g.

90.5 Vivacite Liege
95.6 Classic 21 Liege
95.7 VRT 1 Egem
96.6 Pure FM Anderlues
98.6 VRT 2 Egem
99.1 Classic 21 Anderlues
99.5 Musique 3 Liege
101.1 Pure FM Wavre
101.8 Vivacite Tournai
102.1 Studio Brussel Egem
102.6 Musique 3 Tournai

Signals weak and variable but Liege 95.6, Egem 95.7/98.6, Anderlues
99.1, Wavre 101.1 and Tournai 101.8/102.6 have been fair on some peaks.

These are a few of the carriers I noted earlier. Only Italy IA was
strong enough to produce audio.

I hope these carriers will be of use. I rarely receive signals strong
enough to produce video these days. I do not know why this is. It has
been the same here for the last two years when the best I can usually
manage is a noisy signal from RAI or TVE.

http://zasfiles.at.tut.by/9080.mp3

(Anker P, Denmark - playdx2003 29/05/08)

(Jose Ricardo M de Oliveira, Rio de Janeiro - RJ - Brasil - hard-core-dx 01/06/08)

Radio Mauritanie.

Some of the frequencies and IDs were identified some time ago as
Netherlands military. They have various nets, but this one seems to
use exclusively 0.5 kHz offsets. Others, like their BRAWO net use
whole kHz frequencies.

What I have for this net is:

On TASCOM another unid RAF aircraft show up, callsign sounded
like "SNAPSHOT 01" (or "SLAPSHOT 01" ?).
I found on
http://www.fightercontrol.co.uk/movements/Coningsby2007.xls
an entry for "SNAPSHOT 01" as a RAF "Sentinel R1" ASTOR aircraft
#ZJ690 of the "5 (AC) Sqn" from RAF Waddington. Right ???
As it requested wx for Waddington it might matches very well...

Is that a fixed callsign for the ZJ690 or could it used by any other
Sentinel R1 out of Waddington. Wiki' Germany said that Waddington should
have 5 of them until the end of 2008 ? How many are delivered so far?
I found entries for the ZJ690-ZJ694 ?

BTW, the Italian Carabinieri (Corpo Carabinieri "CC") are really back,
lots of callings on old known frequencies
(seen 6905/LSB, 6936/USB, 7000/USB so far)
and with their "old" known AMD text "DIAL4".

BTW, "DIAL4" is not limited to the CC but a kind of "evidence" for the use of
Motorola MICOM-2/2E radios. DIAL (added by a number) is used
e.g. by the auto phone patch modul Micom ASTIC in connection with
a Micom Fax/Data modul to control "pre-programmed functions"
(starting modem & "MICOM Mail"). TNX Leif !!

Is there any way to correlate the IAE/IET/IEU callsigns (used on their
phone nets) and their ALE idents?

73, Tom

North American
Airlines..."
Olympia Radio

Has anyone any confirmed info about the ownership of the BIZ jet
VP-CVI to send the reception report. I found in the internet many
different entried - from a "Global Air" via "Jet Aviation Business Jets"
to "CIA" ;-)

Note the ISR AF airborne idents on 7957 kHz, many new ones.
But s far it's still difficult to correlate these idents to any tails.
The last two figures of the idents "should" be the last two of the
tail. Mxx are 2xx (their Boeings) etc. ???
BAA seems to be a new ISR AF ident too? Any comments?

Refer to the Algerian Customs stations on 8.9/9 MHz.
The "EURI" was reported before as being the HQ in Algiers, but ??
So far only few transmissions are interrupted with the CW-id
"DE EURI", maybe it's just an "Regional Office", Annaba ?
As this time the header gave:
"EXP: MR LE CHEF DE L'INSPECTION DIVISIONNAIRE DES DOUANES DE ANNABA"
(EXP = from). Are these EXP usually send by the station mentioned
in the EXP field, of could they be relayed by a different station?
Algiers? The station on 9001.7 kHz was for sure Algiers (no CW id!)
as it gave in the "ZCZC"-header "OFF DGD ALG" (that should stand for:
OFFice / Direction Generale Douanes / ALGiers).

And last but not least the 4-figure idents on 9025 kHz, a busy HF-GCS
channel, belongs to whom? See "6011", "2005" & "1101" logged on Sunday.
Any co-user on 9025 kHz ?

Any comments ?

73, Tom

One of my very local NDB's has been acting badly the past few days - 253 UR. VINEE is a CLMM for Rwy 05, Bob Hope Apt, Burbank. You can just make it out the tx

shack in Google Earth with the Panoramio option.

A few days ago just the dash in each character would decrease in frequency a couple of hertz and the sidebands themselves had decreased 6 - 7 Hz. Now the frequency of

the sidebands has decreased even more from its normal +/- 1037 Hz to + 1002 & -1003. This AM the sidebands are shifting +/- 15 Hz even in mid ident.

Decommissioned AN 245 BOING in San Diego also has a good drive by foto in GE Panoramio. Looks like it had a 3 wire T antenna then converted to a vertical with top hat

before decommissioning in April 2007.

LI 353 LASKY (AR#1) also has a good drive by foto. Looks like about a ~100 foot tower. The tx shack is raised up on a ~7 foot cinder block or cement foundation. The

tower is visible best from just south of the location. Tried to snag nearby HPC 363 (AR#2) but it would not show itself. I don't know if is legal to post the photo's I screen

captured from Google, but is easy for anyone to lookup on their PC. Before you ask - yes I have time on my hands - I am presently recovering from my 3rd retina surgery.

MOROCCO. MOROCCO REVIVES DAYLIGHT SAVING [sic, thruout] SCHEDULE IN 2008 --- Published 22-May-2008

For the first time since the late 1970s, Morocco will use daylight saving time to alleviate energy costs and to align itself timewise with neighboring European countries.

Morocco will observe daylight saving time by moving the clock one hour forward (UTC+1) at midnight between May 31 1and June 1 in 2008.

Parts of the Western Sahara that are controlled by Morocco will also change their clocks with the rest of the nation. The country will return to its official standard time

(UTC+0) by reverting the clock one hour back at midnight between September 27 and September 28 in 2008.

Motives for the Schedule

According to Communication Minister Khalid Naciri (cited in MAP, the Moroccan state news agency), the government planned to revive daylight saving time to save energy

and align itself timewise with its regional and international partners, particularly the European Union countries. An official from the National Office of Electricity (ONE) in

Morocco said that the office supported the call for an alignment with European countries. Organizations such as ONE are willing to try out the idea that daylight saving time

may save more energy and money for the country.

The Moroccan government also hopes to use the daylight saving schedule to combat the impact that increasing hydrocarbon prices in the international markets have on

government’s budget. The government anticipates that tourism development will increase as a result of longer afternoons in the summer months during the daylight saving

period.

Potential impacts

It is believed that the daylight saving schedule would not heavily impact on daily life, but issues may arise when people of Islamic faith begin to observe the holy month of

Ramadan – the month of fasting – on September 2, 2008. According to Central Intelligence Agency: World Factbook, 98.7 percent of Morocco’s population is Muslim.

However, aside from the government’s announcement about daylight saving time, not much more information is available at this stage and there is not a great deal of public

backlash.

Morocco’s Recent Daylight Saving History

Morocco observed daylight saving time during the 1970s but discontinued it after 1978 due to its unpopularity among the Moroccan population at the time. Moreover, many

people felt that daylight saving time did not create any major benefits for the country and its people.

The four months of the revived daylight saving schedule are considered as a trial period. At the end of this period, the schedule – its benefits and disadvantages – will be

reviewed for a decision to extend it. If its disadvantages outweigh its benefits, daylight saving time may be abolished. However, if it proves to be successful, daylight saving

time may be used either only during the summer months or throughout the whole year (http://www.timeanddate.com via DXLD)

Amateur Radio NewslineT Report 1607 - May 30, 2008

Russia has successfully orbited a new ham radio satellite called Yubileiny.
Also designated as RS-30 the bird's CW beacon is operational on 435.315 MHz
with reports of other signals also on 435.215 MHz as well.

At the time of writing it is still not clear if RS-30 is carrying a linear
or FM transponder. It does appear to be in a 1500 km orbit which would give
a pass time of up to 20 minutes and enable stations over 7000 km away to be
worked.

Work on the satellite started in December 2004 with the intention of
launching it in 2007 to commemorate the 50th anniversary of the first
satellite Sputnik-1.

We will have more ham radio space related news later on in this weeks
Amateur Radio Newsline report.
