Pablo Casals
Born this day in Spain in 1876 was the virtuoso
cellist and conductor Pablo Casals, a romantic who eschewed literal interpretations of modernism and was renowned for his innovative technique and consummate musicianship.

29.12.1721: †15.4.1764. The French courtesan was actually called Jeanne Antoinette Poissen. The mistress of King Louis XV of France, she yielded a certain degree of power over the French court. She intervened in political decisions, such as during the alliance negotiations at the start of the Seven Year War. In 1758 she brought about the appointment of Etienne F. de Choiseuls as a leading minister. She promoted art, literature (Voltaire und Diderot) and the academic world. She was also responsible for the foundation of the porcelain manufacturer Sèvres, and initiated the construction of the Place Louis XV, now known as Place de la Concorde.
