  • Texas police, who have arrested a 91-year-old man suspected of robbing a bank, possibly making him the oldest bank robber in U.S. history.
  • Public toilets in Malaysia, with the news that people who do not flush the toilet will be liable to a 1,000 ringgit (US$263) fine. The new ruling also provides for a 1,000 ringgit fine for those who do not turn off taps, draw graffiti, damage facilities or act "indecently" in public toilets.
  • British sun-seekers, after temperatures rose about 100є Fahrenheit (37.8є Celsius) for the first time in history.
  • British burglars, with the news that in some areas burglaries have increased by 50% because of the hot weather. Due to the high temperatures people are leaving their windows open all day and night.

BAD WEEK FOR:

  • A South African woman who found a cooked penis in her stew. Hospital cleaner Sophie Matlala ordered goulash in the staff canteen and found a lump of meet she could not cut or chew. After a close examination with her friends, the group decided it was penis. Matlala was violently sick and has since received psychiatric help.
  • A woman in Germany, who says she still loves her boyfriend even though he bit off her nose. The 26-year-old man was sent to prison for 18 months, but his partner, 50, has forgiven him. "I still love this man," said the woman, who has had six operations to build a synthetic nose.
  • Customs officials, who found 500 tarantula spiders at Mexico City’s international airport. The tarantulas had been abandoned after the owner of the spiders failed to complete import paperwork.
  • A British motorist, who has frostbite after driving with his toes too close to the air conditioning vent. One of his toes started to turn black and another went blue. Because of the hot weather the man had been driving without his shoes and socks.
  • A burglar, who fell asleep after breaking into an elderly woman’s house in Amsterdam. The man was arrested after he was found asleep on the couch.
  • The Yeti or abominable snowman, after news that a 14-member Japanese team equipped with infrared cameras will scour the Nepali Himalayas in search of the legendary Yeti.
