Английский язык - говори сейчас!

Добрый день. Продолжаем тему советов - как изучать английский язык самостоятельно.

If you want to direct your attention towards spoken English, read books with a lot of dialogue or even comic books. Comic books can be easier to understand, because we have a picture and a sentence together, and they are full of idiomatic language that is actually spoken. At first you may have difficulties with slang or some trouble understanding jokes, but after some time you will be able to read them and understand them well. Webcomics is a good thing to start with, something daily/weekly is good to keep you interested and continue reading, try "Ozy and Milly" or "Calvin and Hobbes"!

If you are going to watch films, use English subtitles. Watching with Russian ones you will only be reading them, and not listening to the dialogue which is what watching films is all about. If you have difficulty understanding what the film is about, try watching the first 10-15 minutes with Russian subtitles, and than switching back to English when you start to understand what this is all about.

If you are having English lessons, a good thing is to combine two different kinds of classes. If you are normally studying in a group, it will be good to take a one-on-one class once in a while to ask all the questions that you have, and maybe learn the words and phrases that you need or just speak about a topic you want. The opposite is true as well,if you are having private lessons, it will be good to study a couple of times with a group. A group is useful for several reasons, you are learning to deal with different people speaking English differently, with each having their own opinion. In a group you will have more chances to communicate in the way you will in a real life situation.

If you are studying by yourself, it may be quite interesting to teach your children or friends some English. This way not only you will have someone to talk too, but teaching others something that you know will help you practice it and this way you will most likely remember it permanently.

When you are doing your daily tasks, saying what you are doing in English is a good way to practice. Do your daily chores and describe what you are doing: "I am taking the plate from the plate rack and putting it on the table." This gets you thinking in English (rather than making sentences in Russian and than translating) and helps learn all the small daily vocabulary that you need.
