USA: Ferrari 250 GTO to break record of most expensive car sold in auction for $60m

The Ferrari 250 GTO was exhibited at the 2018 RM Sotheby's Monterey auction on Wednesday, where it is expected to break the world's record for highest bid for a car, which will have a starting price of $40 mln to $60 mln (€35 mln to 50 €mln).
Chief Marketing Officer at RM Sotheby's Ian Kelleher described the Ferrari 250 GTO as «spectacular».
«We are looking at a very important Ferrari that retains its original engine, chassis, gearbox, it's an spectacular car, one of the world's most important post-war Ferrarri's. Outstanding condition. We are offering it on behalf of its gentleman owner Dr. Gregory Whitten. Dr. Whitten uses this car extensively, he has raced it, he has showed it, he has competed with it,» he said.
The 2018 RM Sotheby's Monterey auction runs from August 22 to August 25 at the Monterey Conference Centre.

1935 Duesenberg SSJ owned by an American actor Gary Cooper set to fetch $10 million (€ 8.6 million) at the Monterey's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance 2018 car event.
This car is one of only two Duesenberg SSJs ever existed, with the second one owned by Cooper's Hollywood colleague Clark Gable.
Tyler Gagnon from a car auction company Gooding & Company described the uniqueness of the car: «It has very short chassis, it has a super charged Duesenberg modern J engine, with 400-Horse which is insane for 1935. It was the fastest car of its day, the fastest production car you could get available.»

The Aston Martin DP215 was showcased at the 2018 RM Sotheby's Monterey auction on Wednesday, where it's expected to go to auction with a starting price of $18 mln dollars (€15 mln).
According to Chief Marketing Officer at RM Sotheby's Ian Kelleher, the Aston Martin DP215 of 1963 has a «unique design» and was «borne of pure racing pedigree».
«This car is an exceptional example that is very special and there's only one of them, and it is this car. It was originally built to compete at Le Mans and it has a number of very unique features, one of it being that it's actually one of the fastest cars that to ever held the record at Le Mans and, at over almost 200 miles per hour in period, this car set the record and held the record», he explained.
The 2018 Monterey Car Week runs from August 18 to August 26.

Fans of 1986 cult classsic 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off' might raise the starting price of the Ferrari 250 GT replica featured in the film «substantially» from the anticipated $300,000 (€ 259,000) as the car went on display ahead of auction at Monterey's Pebble Beach Concours d'Elegance 2018 car event on Wednesday.
The replica — a 1985 Modena GT Spyder California — is times cheaper than the original Ferrari 250 GT, but could definitely nail a good deal as it's one of the three cars that were actually filmed in 'Ferris Bueller's Day Off'.
David Magers, CEO at Mecum Auctions stressed: «Even though it's a replica, it's a car that was used for the movies, like I said a real 250 GT could be $50 million today. This one is listed to bring somewhere around $250.000, maybe $300.000 but some real fans of the movie get involved in the auction and go head-to-head that could bring substantially more than that.»

Wall and Shield special cars designed for Russia’s police and National Guard, were presented at the Army 2018 International Military-Technical Forum in Kubinka, Moscow Region on Thursday.
Wall and Shield are special cars designed for police and the Federal Service Troops of the National Guard of the Russian Federation. They have armed shields which can be ready to use very quickly. “Shield” also possesses water cannon.
Developers did not reveal the exact purposes for which the cars can be applied.
