White Elephant - winter hike in the Carpathian mountains 2014-09-25 00:51 Carpathians , 3 days. 23 km HIE . Difficulty: above average. [raspisanie:white elephant] Short winter hike with lodgings for the night in a shepherd's hut (restaurant) with the stove. The purpose of the campaign is climbing the third highest mountain of the Ukrainian Carpathians Pop Ivan Montenegro(2028 m). On its summit stands an abandoned Observatory, which in winter are covered with meter-thick layer of ice and turns in the tale "the White elephant". If you are lucky with the weather, you will have excellent views of the snow-covered Montenegrin ridge (visible Hoverla)and the Romanian Carpathians. And if you're not lucky, then you are on your own skin will feel the waist-deep snowdrifts and snow storm.
