Frozen in time: Pristine Soviet legend goes up for sale in Barnaul
2018-02-02 23:09
A 1987 ZAZ-968M Zaporozhets car that looks like it has just rolled off the factory floor has gone up for sale in Barnaul, as shown in footage shot on Friday.
The vehicle has only had one owner, who only drove it during the summer months, and has only 17,500km (10,873 miles) on the clock. Under the bonnet, the car boasts a 1.2 liter engine, generating an impressive 40 brake horse power, more than enough to conquer any slight incline.
“The vehicle is in its original condition. Not a single component has been replaced, the upholstery hasn’t been changed, nothing has been done to the engine, it even has its original tires, the plates are from ’87,”Deluxe Auto Manager Ilya Travkov said.
However, with a price tag of 500,000 rubles (7,100 euros; $8847), you’d have to be a huge fan of tiny, underpowered Soviet cars to buy it.
In the unlikely event that the car sells for that amount, Travkov plans to donate most of the proceeds to a local orphanage.

More than 100 car drivers arranged their vehicles to form the Olympic rings symbol in Kaliningrad on Friday, showing their support to Russian athletes ahead of the Winter Games in Pyongchang.
Flashmobbers gathered at the Devau Airport, four kilometers (2.5 miles) from Kaliningrad. Each ring diameter is about 30 metres (98 feet) in length.
It took 20 cars to make a ring and the whole symbol took 100 vehicles. Near the rings other cars formed the word «Rossiya», meaning «Russia».
Volkswagen Beetle claims to be 'Smallest Hotel in the World'
2018-02-03 13:10
What's claimed to be the world's smallest hotel — a stripped out Volkswagen Beetle — was found at the foot of the 'Montreal' Crusader castle in the Jordanian desert in a tiny village called al-Jaya, Thursday.
After the car was severely damaged, its owner Mohammed al-Malaheem decided to convert it «into the Smallest Hotel in the World.»
The hotel opened its doors in 2011 and has since then accommodated around 160-165 guests, who according to Mohammed, prefer his Lilliputian roadhouse to a «five star hotel.»
The interior is decorated with traditional textiles embroidered by locals in an effort to reinvigorate the local economy and community.
For Mohammed al-Malaheem the four-wheeled hotel is just the beginning, as his ambition is «to establish a Volkswagen hotel with ten or fifteen rooms from Volkswagen cars in the tourist areas nearby with a mountain side view» though he regrettably admitted that his pension could not cover the cost of expansion.
Despite Mohammed's honest aspirations, the position of the «smallest hotel in the world» is currently occupied by a 2.5 metre (100 inch) wide Eh'häusl Hotel in Germany's Amberg in Bavaria, according to the Guinness World Records.
