Using the system method, the author analyzes the changes that have occurred in the broadcasting of the Big Three TV companies in connection with the growing competition from cable and satellite operators.
The article discusses for the first time in detail the program policies of NBC, CBS and ABC corporations. To do this, the broadcasts of broadcasters are examined and the dynamics of content transformation is traced depending on the requirements of the time and the requests of the public. The author comes to the conclusion that cable networks and satellite television have become serious competitors to the companies of the "big three". This was made possible by the launch of original programs, as well as the introduction of pay-TV channels, which radically distinguished cable networks from traditional TV.
NBC, CBS and ABC tried to reorient themselves to the youth audience and in some cases it helped to raise the ratings, but only for a short time, since the cable and satellite networks took the main share of the audience.
